Sephora Pastel Pop Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

Sephora Pastel Pop Eyeshadow Palette 13

The Sephora Pastel Pop Eyeshadow Palette blinded me with sparkle recently. This sweet little palette is topped with eight shadows with matte and sparkle finishes.

At a glance I thought it was the ideal solution for me to enjoy mattes with my favorite finish, sparkle. I know, I’m kinda defeating the purposes of matte if I’m adding sparkle on top but gimme a break, I’m so anti-matte.

Take a peek!

Sephora has had a good run lately with their makeup and beauty tool collection but unfortunately the Sephora Pastel Pop Eyeshadow Palette is a little too expensive. At $28, there are a range of palettes you can get that are FAR better options.

This is a slick black compact with a generously sized mirror. Inside you’ll find four basic matte shades and four shimmering shadows. You can mix and match to your hearts content by wearing the mattes and sparkles together or separately.

The sparkle shadows are similiar in texture to Urban Decay’s new Moondust formula however, they have a thinner consistency with considerably less glitter. The shimmer here is far more refined. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean they are fall out free as they are a tad on the messy side to apply without having shimmer fall over cheeks and face. They are rather dazzling and add a lovely little sparkle to lids but the pigmentation would be comparable to Sonia Kashuk’s older eyeshadow quads in the fact they do have shimmer but no real pigment which in fact makes them merely an overcoat. Of course, this is how Sephora advertises them anyway but still they prove a little disappointing.

The mattes are fairly nice with an easy to apply formula that isn’t overly dry or too powdery. They have a smooth, even texture during application. However, the shades are pretty basic and very light so they don’t make a ton of impact on eyes. It isn’t necessarily lack of pigment here, it’s merely that three of the four shades are lighter colors.

I think….if they’d mark this down to $12-$14 it might be a nice palette for nude, natural looks with a little shimmer. That price range would put it into a competitive budget field and could tempt folks into indulging versus saying the Urban Decay Naked Basics. However, at $28 it just comes across mediocre.

It’s available now at Sephora but I’d personally recommend skipping it.

When I first saw these, I thought “ooooh I should but this,” but I think I will take your advice instead and pass (unless the price drops significantly). I love matte shadows and all of the colors included are ones I use. But your review has convinced me to hold onto my money.

BTW still haven’t found those last two LE Color Tattoos in Blue Paradise and Precious Pearl. No sign of the Milani Eyeshadow Pencils either…

i think it’ll probably hit the clearance bin at some point christina and MIGHT be worth a haul at that point but seriously $28? they are insane hehehe ;-D I’d save my $$ if I were you ;-D just lack of pigment here at this price. Me either girl! 🙁 I’m eagerly stalking but no luck! even when to BBB but nada there either. was hoping for the new covergirl goodies!

Saw the CoverGirl stuff on Amazon (although listed as out of stock) but I have to say that I am always hesitant when it comes to CoverGirl. I know I buy 95% of my cosmetics in the drugstore, but I kind of poo-poo CoverGirl. With the exception of the cream to powder eyeshadows, everything they put out disappoints me. And they aren’t all that cheap anymore!

hey there me too! I also checked soap.com I am too, most of their stuff sucks….I always get excited about it but it ends up rubbish.

I’m sure I will, will I be able to send a little something back with the return address? 😛

Muse, you crack me up with your sparkle addiction. You’re like a kid in a candy store and I mean that in a good way 🙂 On a more serious note, enjoy your sparkle addiction like crazy for as long as you can! I’m here to tell you, for us older girls sparkle is the enemy, much to my dismay. I see some of the sparkle shadows you review and I want them so bad. But sadly, the aging eyelid is not a good place for sparkle. And what really sucks is that now I even have to be really careful with the level of shimmer and metallic finishes are pretty about over for me. I envy you with your big eyes and young eyelids. Savor every moment of your sparkle days!!

hehehe! LURVE the sparkle. I don’t have a saggy lid yet but starting to see puffiness under my eyes and really it makes any shadow..sparkle or not…look kinda crummy 🙁 Some days are worst than others for me. I surely will for as long as I can get away with it ;-D!

  • Simone

Uh! I just don’t get sparkly top coat shadows. Give me my pigmentation dammit!

I would only want the second eyeshadow of your first swatch pick…i wonder if they have that in a single…..
