Covergirl Flamed Out Shadow Pot Review & Swatches
Covergirl has a new range of single eyeshadows out entitled Flamed Out Shadow Pots. Covergirl Flamed Out Shadow Pots are available in twelve vibrant shades for Summer 2013 and I believe they will become a permanent part of the Covergirl Collection at some point.
These are an interesting take for Covergirl as they are apparently marketed towards a younger girl with Pink being the model for the collection and the colors all being quite vibrant. The price point is quite nice as well at a mere $3.49 each at Harmons. I imagine once they hit CVS and Walgreens they won’t be as kindly priced but if you can snag them at under four bucks I’d say you got a bargain on your hands.
How are they?
Let’s take a look!
Ok, so these are interesting. Flamed Out Shadow Pots do sound a little more exciting than they are. I dunno, Flamed Out, it sounds so dramatic eh? At first, I thought these were a mousse or a cream but they are actually single powder shadows.
They have a little screw top with a black compact design. I’d say they are a little bigger than a US quarter. Each weights in at .07 oz in size. The package is a little flimsy so you have to be careful with them as they break easily and are quite delicate. I broke one simply on the way to and from the drugstore. The formula is also a little powdery so once you swipe a brush or applicator into them they end up breaking off chunks.
Scorching Cocoa, Red Hot, Melted Caramel, Melted Gold
One of my biggest complains about the packaging is the shades are not named. They do have a number on them and you can match that number on the website with a name however, the actual packaging lacks the name. WTH!?
The texture is soft and velvety. They are powdery but not chalky in the least. They are most comparable to a lighter version of a Stila eyeshadow with that smooth, velvety texture that kinda feels almost creamy. Some shades have a little bit of chunky glitter in the mix but this isn’t very noticeable on lids. They apply best with sponge eyeshadow applicators as I feel like they kick up way too much powder with a regular brush. I also felt like the fall out was a pain when a regular brush was used. A swipe of sponge applicator seemed the best application technique for me and also allowed for the best color pay off. At a swatch they are sheerer but have a better pigmentation and color pay off on lids when build with a sponge. They apply sheerer using a regular shadow brush. They seem to have a fairly good wear on my drier lids at around six hours without creasing but losing some of their vibrancy at around hour four to five. With primer I got excellent all day wear but again, some of the intensity of the shade seemed to fade at around the fifth hour.
Melted Caramel
Melted Gold
Red Hot
Scorching Cocoa
One thing that is nice about them is they make an excellent pair up with the new Flamed Out Shadow Pencils as you can use the pencils as a base and one of these on top. This creates a really killer eye look and the intensity is upped thanks to the vibrancy of the creamy shadow pencil as a base.
As mentioned above I find they are very delicate. They seem to break off big chunks of shadow no matter what applicator you use. I would not recommend travel with these and be careful to not drop them as chances are they won’t survive a hit on your bathroom or bedroom floor.
At $3.49 I can honestly say they were fairly nice eyeshadows. Nothing incredible here, if anything at all they kinda remind me of something I’d find in a massive NYX Palette or something of the sort. I’d recommend a purchase if you can find them at a fairly low cost. However, knowing drugstores and the way they jack up prices I would NOT recommend picking them up at $5-$6 each….that wouldn’t be money well spent.
These are available at the moment in Walmart and Harmons but I imagine they’ll start working around the typical drugstores soon like CVS, Walgreens, etc….
If you tried them I’d love to hear your thoughts!
