Covergirl Lipslicks Smoochies Lip Balm Review & Swatches

Covergirl Smoochies Lip Balm

Covergirl Smoochies Lip Balm is a new variation on Covergirl Lipslicks that are available this Summer. I’m not really sure why they needed to go here as we already have Lipslicks and I’m not seeing much difference in the two formulas.

But this isn’t really the first product that Covergirl relaunched this season. Their new Creme Foundation and Shadow Pencils are also very similiar releases in new packaging.

Shrug…

However, if you like lip balms these might be worth exploring.

Here’s my review and thoughts.

Covergirl Lipslicks Smoochies are a conditioning tinted lip balm very similiar to Covergirl Lipslicks if not identical really. Perhaps what you get with Smoochies is a more modern, every so slightly reformulated and repackaged version of their Lipslicks, which really are still available on shelves as far as I know.

Luv Bug, Luv U, Sweet Tweet

I think the brighter packaging and the shade names (which include a hashtag) might be a big draw though especially for a younger girl, this on Covergirl’s part is excellent marketing.

On lips they are just a touch thicker than the original formula but just a touch nothing you can obviously feel unless you’re really looking for it. They are a heavier balm-y texture and two of the three shades I purchased offered an opaque tint. Covergirl Lipslicks have always been a fairly nice product in my opinion and went a little above a regular old tinted lip balm and Smoochies pretty much delivers the same pigment and quality. They have a subtle fruity taste and smell that isn’t really terribly pleasant but it disappears fairly fast after applied. Although a balm I find they lack any great moisturizing benefits and my lips don’t feel particularly hydrating through the wear. I dislike how heavy they are as they are a lip product that make themselves known when worn. Wear time varies but I can get around three to four hours of color from them before they fade.

Overall, I’m unsure if you need to indulge in Covergirl Lipslicks Smoochies if you already own a few Lipslicks shades. These are basically the same product and merely revised in packaging. They aren’t completely uneventful as they are a quick way to get nice color on lips with a high sheen finish however, I think they prove boring simply because Covergirl has done them before….Why the suddenly re-release of products you already have in your general catalog?!

Le urgh. I dunno but Luv Bug looks so uneventful and the finish is..rubbery almost. Sparkly rubber. I rather have my glossy Labello lip balms instead, and at a dollar each too. :l

I don’t like cover girl. I think is mostly hyped up. I seen u in pics where other lip anything look prettier and shinier on you. Therefore, I got em on my eBay watch list. 😀

I bought #luv u over the weekend. Mine does not smell fruity. To me it smells more plasticy. It’s OK though.

    • the Muse

mmmm not really plastic thankfully maybe a little fruity weirdness?

  • Spooki

The packaging for these is really ugly and cheap looking. The product doesn’t seem nice enough to make up for it so I’m definitely going to pass on these.

I was at Target and they had a whole end cap of all these new covergirl products and I was like “Ohhh pretty packaging!” But man am I glad I passed. Honestly I think the only covergirl product I use is Lash Blast!

  • Karena

Thanks for the review, Muse!! They do look the same as the Lipslicks, which in my opinion were absolutely horrid because they felt like Vaseline on the lips – very heavy and greasy! These are an easy pass for me, but they do look pretty on you!

I know right? That plastic looks so..play makeup. Or 50 cent makeup. It’s just..not flattering at all. I like colourful, playful looking makeup but this just looks ugly.

  • Christi

CoverGirl is so wack that they can’t even come out with completely new products. And that new concealer that is just a mini version of the Tone Rehab foundation is laughable. They must really thing we’re all idiots. I did pick up one of these shades because I needed to use up a few bucks I had left on a Walmart gift card I got for my bday tho, and it was pretty, albeit boring. I think I have Luv Bug. The formula is exactly the same as the regular Lipslicks, maybe a little heavier because these are slightly more pigmented. At least these colors are new (I think).

  • Jennie

Hmm, not a big fan of the packaging but I’m still slightly interested. How would you say it is compared to the NYC Apple Glossy Balms?

  • Bianca

I bought this product in the color Beso I think it was called. However I was not impressed. Felt like it was way too thick. I also didn’t like the amount of glitter that was in it. There was still plenty of glitter left on my lips after wiping off the ipstick. I will not be repurchasing this item again.

  • Megan

I prefer the NYC Apple balms to these. I feel these sit unaturally on my lips, while the NYC balms are more pigmented, moisturizing, and richer. 🙂

  • Monika

Got these 2/$1 @ Marc’s since all CG lip $2 off & used $4/2 coupon (were $2.49 each) so got luv u (sheer med pink) & tweet me (sheer red). These were the only 2 non-glittery, nonmetallic shades (which I find drying on my lips) I saw at the time. Old lipslicks were only 47 cents on clearance there, by the way! I actually kinda like em especially for what I paid 😉 would b nice if had SPF tho.

  • Anna

I have one of the sparkly Lipslicks (not entirely sure which shade) and it almost feels gritty when I put it on! It seems to scratch my lips, which is a bit of a shame because the packaging is so cute 🙁

  • Randie

    Muse,
First you have big beautiful brown eyes like me

Luv Bug looks great and shiny on you.I just tried Tweet Me and I really love it,it’s a better formula than the original Lipslicks notonly the smell being a lot better, but I found it looks and feels more glossy and moisturizing. And Tweet Me is a very nice warm reddish color that looks good on my skin tone.

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks chica 🙂 I’ll have to try Tweet Me Randie, I don’t have that one 😀

  • Jess

Well I just bought one in #kissandtell I love how pigmented it is and how bright the color looks on my lips. Has just enough shine and give my lip moisture all day. I would definitely use more of the smoochies.

  • Jennifer

Random question on an old review but does ANYONE remember the name of the lip product from Covergirl in th 90’s that was like the lipslicks but in a skinny green tube? Its driving me nuts.

    • Sara_USA

I remember a Cover Girl product in a small, slim, green twist-up tube called ‘Lip Blush’. It was a stain in a balm form. I think it came in 3 shades- light, med, & dark pinks that went on sheer & brightened into a stain. I was disappointed when I couldn’t find them anymore. It was a nice, even, long-lasting stain of color that I used on my lips & cheeks.
