Holika Holika Pore Cover Mousse Starter Review & Swatches

Holika Holika Pore Cover Mousse Starter

Holika Holika Pore Cover Mousse Starter is a foaming primer with an SPF 30. This foaming facial primer supposedly blurs the appearance of large pores while evening out skin tone and prepping skin for makeup while protecting it from the sun.

Foaming primers like this are a fairly common offering that a variety of Asian brands offer. I’ve tried literally hundreds and most offer the same benefits.

Take a look!

Holika Holika Pore Cover Mousse Starter 1

Holika Holika Pore Cover Mousse Starter is a foaming makeup primer that comes housed in an aerosol can. They market it as having a strawberry scent however, it smells much like Holika Holika Pore Cover Sealer and not so much strawberries. The scent is very pleasant and pretty however, if you’re sensitive it might be irritating.

Pore Cover Mousse Starter is an excellent way to prep skin prior to applying makeup however, don’t buy it for pore concealing because it won’t work. It’ll blur the appearance of smaller pores a little bit…but really it won’t do very much to conceal super visible pores.

I think the joy of the formula is the fact that it brightens up a duller complexion. It starts paler pink shade but it has elements of lavender and lavender is an excellent way to brighten up a lackluster complexion. If you like products like Etude House Baby Choux this offers a similar effect but with more of a whitening/brightening finish. It is best suited to fairer skin types or medium fair but not tan as it might look too chalky or too pasty.

This has a light mousse texture that has a wet feel but it blends easily into skin and has almost a certain creaminess as you work with it. It’s very lightweight and barely feels like you have anything at all on your face. I only apply a little bit and I would suggest, unless you’re super fair, you do the same. In this case I recommend a sunscreen to protect skin as that SPF 30 will do nothing for you if you aren’t applying enough of this.

I actually love this but I think it’ll prove disappointing if you’re buying it for the pore concealing benefits. Purchase it to prep skin, for minimal sun protection, and most importantly to ease lackluster skin and create a more brighter appearance. However, do not buy it to blur the appearance of pores as it simply won’t do much for you in this regard.

I always get my hopes up when something claims to help with the appearance of pores. And then I’m disappointed. Womp womp. :[

Oh wow. I like the idea of a mousse for a primer/sunscreen. Most primers and sunscreens break me out so I’m always searching for something that won’t.
