Sephora Skin Perfect CC Cream Review & Swatches

Sephora Skin Perfect CC Cream SPF 20

Sephora Skin Perfect CC Cream SPF 20 ($26) recently launched in six shades. So if you’re one of those folks that might not fit into the self adjusting CC Cream range Sephora’s version will give you a few options for color.

You’ll see a harder push for CC Creams in drugstores come the Fall but right now Summer rules supreme for mid range and higher end brands that are hitting CC Creams hard. Although at the moment the CC Creams I have tried here in the US are nice enough I’m still really liking what I see from Asia and have come across a good deal of great options from our Korean brand friends.

Sephora’s CC Cream option comes as a surprise as I didn’t really expect them to embrace the trend so quickly. They, like many brands, have skipped completely over the BB Cream craze and just headed right into releasing a CC Cream. I was ever so slightly shocked at the $26 price tag I must admit and that rather low SPF 20.

But I tested it out and here’s what I think!

Sephora Skin Perfect CC Cream

Sephora Skin Perfect CC Cream, like many of the CC Creams I’ve tried in the Western market, is a tinted product. This isn’t a self adjusting CC Cream so it isn’t white as many Korean ones are. Plus you have options for color here as well, not many mind you, but most of the shades should fit into many tones since the product is so very sheer.

Remember CC Creams aren’t going to offer you a ton of coverage. These merely correct but do not conceal problem skin issues. Darkness, redness, and evening out your skin tone is the job of a CC Cream. Blemishes, major redness or dark spots, freckles, would be the job of a pigmented BB Cream or foundation product.

Sephora’s CC Cream is creamier and richer than one would expect with more pigment than your average tinted moisturizer. Honestly, they prob could have went with BB Cream in this case. Granted, it isn’t as pigmented as a BB Cream you’d find in Asia but the pigment is better than a tinted moisturizer and is more of a BB Cream formula we see here in the states. Although creamy it is lightweight, breathable, and blends out to a seamless finish on skin. If you like tinted moisturizer but just wanted a little more pigment in it than Sephora CC Cream is a good option for you.

I wouldn’t say it perfects completely as the sheerness of the product can’t really blur the appearance of dark spots or redness. It will however, ease dullness, even out skin tone, and perfect already decent skin. It contains Sephora’s Hydra24 Complex which helps to hydrate skin through the wear. Personally it feels like a semi-matte almost satiny finish on dry down with a soft, smooth texture that doesn’t cling to drier areas. It isn’t overly moisturizing for drier skin nor is it too hydrating, oily, or greasy for those with combination or oily skin.

You can wear it under or over foundation. I personally like the idea of using CC Cream on its own over primer. But if you need more coverage you can use it in conjunction with your own base. It wears, on its own, solid for a good six to seven hours before showing minor wear at hour eight (on a humid/warm day).

I find the SPF 20 disappointing especially if you’re outside and using this as your sunscreen. Why bother at all? SPF 20? Really?

Outside of the poor sunscreen option this is a very nice product. For me it is one step above a tinted moisturizer. It’s very sheer but still manages to perfect well enough and gives skin lightweight coverage that’s perfect for Summer.

I admit I’m still a fonder fan of Asian CC Creams at the moment. They seem to do a better job brightening and perfecting compared to what I am seeing from US brands.

Thanks for the review. I saw this online at sephora.com but didn’t want to get it without reading a review. I’ll probably pass and order a Korean CC cream.
