Benefit Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer

Benefit Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer ($32) will be available this July and you guessed it, it promises 15 hours of flawless foundation wearing. That’s a hell of an awesome claim.

According to Benefit’s marketing Stay Flawless Primer will help foundation last longer. The interesting thing about Benefit Stay Flawless Primer is the fact that it comes in an unconventional design, it’s a stick primer.

Benefit Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer Fall 2013

You read that right above I said that Benefit Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer is a stick. I don’t think I’ve every used a facial primer that came in a swivel up stick before this and I don’t think I want to go back to traditional primer after this. I actually love the idea of this and love the way it applies. Who knew stick primer was so incredible?

This comes in a chubby swivel up stick which you can apply directly to your face from the tube. Simply swipe it on and blend out with finger tips. I’m not sure why but I love this. It applies so easily and blending it out was even easier. I didn’t have issues with pilling, I wasn’t uncomfortable with the texture, I didn’t have to deal with a messy liquid or silicone primer…it was just easy to use.

The formula has a moisturizing yet mattifying feel, I know talk about a contrast right? It applies with a hydrating feel but as you blend out it goes matte. I’d liken the finish to that you’d get with Urban Decay De-Slick in a Tube. It blends easily and blurs minor visible pores I have on my nose but don’t expect it to fill huge pores in. It’ll blur minor imperfections but not major ones. The matte feel isn’t uncomfortable to my dry skin and provides a breathable semi-matte finish that’s very weightless without being powdery or clinging to my drier areas. After using it my skin feels very smooth and refined, basically it creates a great canvas for makeup. Although it is a nude fleshy color it applies transparently.

Now if you’re extra oily I don’t think this will keep shine and oil at bay for too long. However, drier and combo skin will probably be more than happy with its mattifying abilities. I wouldn’t say I remained flawless 15 straight hours though. I tried it with a BB Cream, CC Cream, and a regular foundation product. Since my BB Creams and CC Creams last all day for a solid eight hours I had not a hiccup with this worn under those products. My makeup was fresh, flawless, and had excellent wear throughout my day.

The real test would be with a regular foundation product as typically foundation fades quickly for me. Without this my foundation would last three hours but with a regular primer of my choosing I could go five to six hours if I was lucky. With Benefit Stay Flawless Primer I was looking at eight hours in a cooler environment, not to shabby! Outdoors in a warmer climate I noticed shorter results with foundation showing some fading at hour six and my skin needing a touch up at seven.

My skin is drier so I based the results I experienced on that skin type. I imagine on oily skin you might see far different results as this isn’t as mattifying as one might need with super oily skin thus resulting in your foundation wearing away faster.

I gotta admit I like this stuff. If nothing else the unconventional design really sealed the deal for me and hey, it does a pretty fine job of keeping my foundation on a fairly long time as well, that’s a complete plus.

MUSE MUSE MUSE WWDC IS ON NOW!!! You watching? Or am I a total geek right now :P?

    • the Muse

hehe you aren’t ALONE my dear ;D the guardian has a blow by blow!

  • deathbyjava

Aw man, I so want to try this when it launches. The packaging reminds me of the makeup line in Topshop. Alas, I have many bases to go through first (some I bought on your recommendation – namely, Etude House Choux Base in peach and Shu Uemura UV mousse base in pink/purple) before I can embark on buying this one. Can’t wait though – I don’t think I can ever recall a primer being in a stick format. It’d be an ideal primer to travel with.

    • the Muse

yay you’re going to love the baby choux ;-D and the Shu UV Mousse! ;-D let me know what you think!

Hi Muse, thanks for posting this! I often wonder why more companies don’t make stick primers, it just seems so logical and much less messy. Laura Geller does one and I tried it. It was such rubbish that after about 3 uses I tossed it. I’ll be looking out for this one.

    • the Muse

my pleasure deb…I’m trying to recall if I tried Laura’s version?! hmmmm! but I agree less mess, easier to apply!

    • krankenheim

I know that this post, specifically your reply, is a few months shy of being a year old but I wanted to comment because you mentioned Laura Geller and someone might read this who is considering this primer with a powder.

Okay, I recently purchased this primer after grabbing the first primer handy at Ulta the other day to put on the back of my hand so I could try Laura Geller’s Balance-n-Brighten foundation in regular/medium. I am usually a fair, and in some lines I need the lightest color available, but Laura Geller’s lightest shade, porcelain, is dreadfully ghostly.

So I grabbed this stick primer only because it was the closest to me; I needed something to make the foundation stick so I could swatch it. I wound up loving it so much I went back the next day to buy it!!!

This primer is absolutely perfect for powder foundation, which is interesting because Muse’s review doesn’t mention trying it with a powder foundation! (I assume because she has dry skin…) I find this primer has the perfect amount of stick power, pun intended, to really hold powder foundation. I’ve been using it for a week, now, on a daily basis with Laura Geller’s regular/medium and I absolutely adore it. I don’t say this often at all, but I may have found my HG primer/foundation combo!

On a side note and for what it’s worth, Laura Geller’s foundations are awfully light. I’m not new to high-end cosmetics at all but new to Laura Geller, to be honest. I also thought the shade named light was quite yellow toned and regular/medium was the same shade except warm toned. I wound up going with the regular/medium and it was perfect for me.

looks good but I’m not sure if this would work for my skin. question on primer for UNDER EYE CONCEALER – have u found one that works?
I cannot leave the house without under eye concealer and I have found one I like from Clinique but I think at the end of the day it has worn off and I have to touch up b4 and after work drinks or dinner.
other than that I love it 😀

    • the Muse

i like the smashbox one! it works pretty well for me 🙂 and of course, plenty of eye cream for my drier eyes

  • Cj

OMGGG IOS7 IS SOOOO PRETTY! I’m downloading the beta tonight if its up 😀

    • the Muse

not sure…I like the glossier looks of the icons now, they look a little flat now?!

  • Cj

That was the whole idea 😛 a more flatter transparent design. I think it’s lovely 😀 btw reply is broke again lmao. Btw how many strokes of this primer do you need for your whole face? Like do you do a couple lines or fill in the area lol?

    • the Muse

I’m not sure I am sold on it? 😀 debatable at this moment…! I know been working on all day! ugh migraine sorry about that. I did a single stroke down each side of my face and that was plenty ;-D

  • Cj

Hmm gonna order it when it comes out then 😀 btw how do you like loose powders? I might have a rec for you 😛

    • the Muse

did you see the new macbook air? do want ;-D mmm so so on loose powders, skin is drier so don’t use them much but rec away ;-D you know I always like trying something new!

  • Cj

Ughhh I know right! One of these days ima get a MacBook lol expecially since windows 8 is a total flop. I’m also on the drier side but I am in love with Alima pure, they have loose powder everything, primer, foundation, corrector, concealer, blush, eyeshadow, etc and its all only 3 or 4 ingredients! The color range is freaking huge, I’m beige 1, you’ll probably be a 3 or 4 in whatever undertone you are. They are amazing with samples 1.50 per. So far I’ve got the foundation and 2 blushes and a crap load of samples lol. Here’s the site. http://www.alimapure.com/

Pro tip: Dampen your brush when you use them, or any other powder foundation while your at it 😛 makes it look so natural and flawless

    • the Muse

i didn’t even upgrade I knew winblows 8 was going to be a heartache. my current macbook is two years old I think I need a replacement *shifty eyes* thanks!!!!!!!!!!!! my ears perked up at concealer never heard of Alima!

  • Cj

Just send your old one my way LOL! Yeah windows 8 is complete crap, if I want to learn a whole new OS I’d switch to Mac, not some weird phone OS on a desktop lol, I actually first heard of em on a video from josh 😛

    • the Muse

will do! 😀 I still have to send your package, sorry been swamped by the way the comments are fixed now! if you experience any other probs let me know ;-D windows 8 is like google+ times five…such a nightmare of a product! WHY!? why!? *head desk*

  • Renu

Oh wow…I’ve always been a Porefessional-or-TimeBalm girl; I need to try this, if only for the packaging and the stick concept! Could you do a swatch sometime, please?

  • Pam

I was wondering if you could list the ingredients. Thanks a bunch!

  • Marilyn @ Lipgloss+Spandex

The packaging is so cute, but I wouldn’t use a stick primer.
