Josie Maran Argan Love Your Lips Hydrating Lipstick Review & Swatches

Josie Maran Argan Love Your Lips Hydrating Lipstick Summer 2013

Josie Maran Argan Love Your Lips Hydrating Lipstick ($22) have some mixed reviews but I must admit I really liked the one I purchased. I understand why though! They are pretty much a spot on dupe for Clarins Instant Smooth Crystal Lip Balms and having experienced those and knowing how to use them I pretty much liked Argan Love Your Lips Hydrating Lipstick just as much.

Here are my thoughts!

Josie Maran Argan Love Your Lips Hydrating Lipstick Berry Bliss

Josie Maran Argan Love Your Lips Hydrating Lipstick are available in six shades and are supposed to act as a gloss, balm, and lipstick all one one.

I think the title can be misleading here as people automatically assume they’ll be a moisturizing, hydrating lipstick with an easy glide. This they are not.

They basically have a clear balm that surrounds a color core. Looking at the product I’d say they are pretty darn cool. I can understand the disappointment though as they are infused with argan oil but have more of a balm-y texture that does keep lips fairly soft but isn’t as slick or as glossy as one would expect. Just like Clarin’s version you need to learn to apply them correctly for the best results. A single swipe feels like it tugs and drags on lips and the color appears patchy. You have to apply a single application and proceed to go over it two or three more times. This warms the formula up and the color will spread more evenly. The color pay off is true to tube so long as you apply it in a few strokes versus one.

The texture is a little heavier and feels more like a lip balm versus a lipstick. The finish has a high sheen but not a glossiness or shine that you may desire. It wears comfortable for me but isn’t lightweight in the least so it is a product that makes itself known on lips. It wears for around three hours for me and needs a touch up as I enter hour four or so.

I wouldn’t recommend it for everyone as I think many people won’t like the formula. Personally I like it a lot. Having used, owned, and loved on Clarins version it was easy enough to like these just as much!

Considering raw argan oil needs to be “warmed up” to aid application, it doesn’t surprise me these do, too. I’m actually quite impressed by the pigmentation, as I expected the outer layer would have more “slip”, and diffuse the color of the core. I saw these in Sephora the other day, but I passed them up without a second look since I thought they’d just end up looking like a shiny, tinted lip balm, of which I have *plenty*. I must say I’m pleasantly surprised, and will likely end up with at least one in my stash.

Hi Muse!! I like your tip about multiple swipes to get the color to be consistent. This was one of my gripes with this product. Glad you are enjoying yours!!
