L’Oreal Colour Riche By Pencil Perfect Eyeliner Review & Swatches

L'Oreal Colour Riche By Pencil Perfect Eyeliner

I picked up one of the six shades of the new L’Oreal Colour Riche By Pencil Perfect Eyeliner last week. This is a cool, retro style eyeliner as it is a wood pencil. Jeepers when was the last time a wood pencil has been seen on the makeup scene? We’ve been bombarded with so many twist up mechanical pencils I forgot real pencils existed.

L’Oreal launched these in six shades and they will probably become a permanent feature in the Color Richie line so no worries about racing around trying to locate them.

Shall we take a look?

L'Oreal Colour Riche Pencil Eyeliner

I must admit the name irks me. What or who is pencil perfect?! I guess it’s a reference to their past Pencil Perfect Eyeliners but I find it stupid to include in the name. Can’t they just call it L’Oreal Colour Riche Eyeliner and call it a day!? Ok, rant over.

This is a dual sided pencil so it includes the pencil on one side and a small smudger on the other. No sharpener is provided so you have to BYOS (bring your own sharpener). I find pencil eyeliners last a little longer for me than mechanical ones however, it is a little smaller in size at 0.037 oz.

At first I disliked it and you’ll likely feel the same but give a chance. It’s the type of product that starts out dry and needs a second to melt down so I’d suggest stroking it against your arm once or twice. You make a line on your wrist and go over it and this will kinda warm the pencil up. At my first stroke on my eye it tugged a bit so I warmed it up and it proceeded to go nice and creamy.

I’d say it is most comparable to MAC’s regular eye pencils. It has a creamy formula that smudges easily and applies on the lash line smoothly without tugging or skipping. Like most L’Oreal eye pencil products it has an intense blacker than black formula that’s extra pigmented and super saturated. In terms of color pay off it is on par with LOreal Infallible Gel Lacquer Liner just in a different format.

It wore strongly on my drier eyes without fading or smudging. However, the wear time on my waterline was a little shorter and it seemed to fade at around six hours. I wouldn’t say it completely disappeared but it was less intense at hour six.

I believe I paid around six dollars for this at Harmons. I wouldn’t personally pay more as there are better options available if you had to pay say $8-$9 at CVS. Wait for a sale in that case….! It’s a nice eyeliner that performed quite well for me but I do enjoy the Gel Lacquer Liner a bit better in all honesty.

It’s available and popping up at drugstores now.

Tried it?

Love to hear!

I purchased this item.

    this looks great!

I bought this in Violet yesterday. If it’s anywhere near as good as the Gel Laquer Liner, I may have to go back and get Cobalt, too!

I prefer the sharpening pencils made of a black resin, myself; there are so many variations! I must say that in that department I prefer Jordana(Color Xtend), NYC(Waterproof), Milani(liquid-like), Prestige(Total Intensity, and Waterproof), Rimmel(Scandal eyes), Palladio(Precision), Nyx(slide-on), and L’Oreal(Extra-Intense).

    Serena,

I bought NYX Slide On Eye Liner in the purple shade tonight and I now have to return it tomorrow because I tried to sharpen it with three different drug store sharpeners and it was very difficult to sharpen and it ate up some of the pencil and broke the point off! It’s a waste of the product and the money! So people on any make up review sites that say it’s difficult to sharpen are so right!
