Lululun Face Mask (White) Translucent Light Review

Lululun Face Mask

It’s a funny thing about facial masks I’ve tried SO many but can’t say I’ve tried a variety from Japan. In most cases my facial sheet masks come from either Korea or Taiwan. For all my love of Japanese makeup you’d think that I’d have tried more brands of facial sheet masks from Japan but that’s simply not the case.

Needless to say when I noticed the publicity that Lululun was getting in Japanese magazines I was quite curious about the brand and decided to order some of the masks and try them out.

Take a look!

Lululun Facial Sheet Masks come in three formulas total so there isn’t a huge variety to try. The one I have here is the Transculent Light Whitening formula.

Supposedly the mask is free from oil, alcohol, and fragrances which makes them ideal for sensitive skin.

The masks come in a variety of sizes but the more common is the seven piece variation. This is a single package with a ziploc seal that contains seven individual masks. The packaging is something I instantly disliked. I prefer masks that come in a box and are individually wrapped. The masks come in a huge chunk (you can see what I mean below) so they are pretty much clumped together in the package which means you have remove all seven masks from the package, peel one off, and drop the rest back into the package and reseal. This isn’t exactly hygienic nor can it be good for the masks having to remove them every single time to grab one off.

These are a very thin, delicate cotton fiber that don’t have a great fit on my face. The thinner cotton tends to tear easily during application and during wear. I typically pat gently at the mask through the wear and this unfortunately results in tearing so avoid touching it once you apply. It has cut outs for your eyes, nose, and mouth however, it fits so poorly I felt like the mouth portion was down around my chin and the eyes were up around my forehead. It was just a weird fit overall which also results in tearing as I tried to situate it on my face correctly.

Lululun Face Mask Translucent Light

It’s saturated decently with essence but unfortunately not the amount of essence I’d get from a My Beauty Diary or My Scheming Facial Mask. It seems the essence dries up super fast so the mask treatment only lasts about 10 minutes at the most where as I typically wear a mask for 20-30 minutes.

After removal I didn’t really feel like the mask did much for my skin. I didn’t feel any more or less hydrated, my skin wasn’t really brighter, nor did it look any different. At best it moisturized a LITTLE bit but nothing incredibly hydrating here.

Overall, Lululun Face Masks are apparently are a victim of over publicity and hype. These are just awful and not worth a pick up in my humblest. I got mine directly from Japan recently but Imomoko.com just started selling them if you’re curious to try them out for size yourself.

Tried ’em?

Love to hear your thoughts!

As for me, I say, AVOID them!

I purchased this item.

Sorry you didn’t like the facial mask 🙁 But that’s the life of a beauty blogger 🙂

Thank you for telling me, I almost ordered some of these recently! *wince*

  • Grace

Oh thank god you reviewed this brand of sheet masks, I was just about to spend some serious dough on them because of raves in all the Japanese magazines!

    • the Muse

same here grace, all the mags are raving them but they stink 🙁

I have used this mask for some time now. Though true it’s very inconvenient because of the packaging, I found a solution to it. A clean tweezers should do the trick so I can perfectly take one mask at a time. Generally this mask should only be placed 10-15 minutes on the face and I have to say this is one of the best masks ive tried second to my beauty diary. This dries up quickly which prevents stickiness (my big problem with sheet masks, especially from where I live where it’s humid all the time). I find this more effective than my My beauty diary japanese cherry blossom variant. Too bad i think i cant purchase this one in a bulk because I am afraid it might dry up over time if you don’t use it as frequent.

hi quirky great idea! ;-D can’t say I liked them tbh :-/ they have a poor fit and aren’t as saturated as I’m used to but thanks for the tweezer tip!

  • Corielou

Hello Muse, I feel I have to do my best to defend my fav mask of all time! I love this mask, so much so that I stopped buying mbd, etude house, face Q, sexy look and my scheming (save for mbd’s colloid masks and face Qs grape seed masks). I admit the packaging is a little wonky but as an esthetician, I go through a whole bunch of packaging from facial products, more than the average person, and I love that lululun reduces the amount of trash I get, hehe. Anywho, I understand what you’re saying about the mask time, I love relaxing with a longer mask; its so soothing. But since lululun masks are designed for daily use, they are made so they don’t take up too much time. Also as a solution to the saturation and strength woes you may have try storing these masks in the fridge when not in use. The solution will become a little more dense when cold and so the masks will feel a tad thicker and be easier to apply. Also cotton type sheet masks are meant to be stretched, so if you are having poor fit issues try starting at the eyes and smoothing your way outward gently. Although I know I may be too late to change your mind, I thought I’d try. Plus, I want to mention I had no idea how popular these masks were when I first started using them, I bought them because of the ingredients. These masks have an incredible brightening effect and I’ll continue to recommend them as long as they remain the same. Cheers! 🙂

hiya Corielous! Happy to hear you like ’em 🙂 thanks for adding your review!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Silly Sophie

Hi Muse! I love Lululun’s mask sets! I definitely understand what you’re saying regarding hygiene, but clean tweezers definitely do the trick 🙂

I also found out how to properly use these masks from the salesclerk from the local beauty store. Although each mask is thin, she says you’re supposed to wear 1 mask sheet every day for 7 days. So even tho you don’t get much each day, the end results after 1 week are amazing! Ultimate hydration and brightness ^.^

hi Sophie I actually tried the entire package but they still remain one of the worst masks I’ve tried 🙁 really really dislike them! I’m glad they worked out for you!!!!!!! someone else recommended the tweezer tip, that’s def a great idea 🙂

  • JP Gurl

So just because this didn’t worked out for you, that doesn’t mean it wont work for other people

HELLO earth to brain please, we all have different skin types, so instead of saying “avoid this” say I dont recommend this for *insert your skin type here* or something like that.

BTW they won’t fit? Its made from cotton, IT WILL STRETCH

    • Isabella Muse

hi jp gurl I didn’t like them perhaps you did which is great. Personally I think they are a poorly made mask and stretching them won’t help the fit because it tears the fabric. There are considerably better masks on the market in my opinion, I said in my review I didn’t think they were worth a pick up in “my opinion”. That’s with this blog is about, reviews, thoughts, and posts based on my experience with products. If you had a different experience I welcome you to share it but please drop the snark when doing so. Too bad you didn’t like it! These are actually one of my favorite masks. I actually don’t take the whole clump of masks out I just peel one off from inside the bag. I also never have problems with it tearing and it fits my face perfectly! It’s also one of those masks you use EVERYDAY to see results and it works great. These masks are also meant to be kept on for only 10-15 mins. Oh well! Still enjoyed the read though 🙂

I luuuuv this mask! I bought it on a trip in Japan. First I love that it comes in a seven pack and is resealable. Yes, it’s a little unhygienic. I don’t mind it though.. I love that it’s light and doesn’t leave any sticky residue like other sheet mask that I have tried. I also have tried the pink one and found it more moisturizing. I have oily/combo/acne prone skin type with some hyperpigmentation. I love this mask!

Thanks so much for reviewing these. Just got back from a couple of weeks in Japan and of course got suckered into buying them. Just about to give them a go and was hoping to find some additional info, like knowing that you’re supposed to use them once a day for a week….explains the packaging. I’ll let you know how it works for my 50 year old skin!

  • NaNa

I recently bought the LuLuLun (White) that comes in 32 sheets, and it’s my first time using masks that are packaged like a tissue box (lol) I heard some good reviews about this mask’s whitening effect, but also how it is really thin in material and not exactly soaked. but bought anyways because it is a lot cheaper, and if it would work to whiten my skin, why not? But it is not like the My Beauty Diary that I was used to using, and the fitting is bad, the hole cutout for my eyes goes all the way from my nose to my temple :(, i just use this as a daily thing now, and pamper myself with the more expensive and “substantial” mask every now and then 🙂

  • Linda

How interesting. I just got the 42 sheets in a box pack of the brightening variety directly from Japan and the new version is so different to the ones you have described. These ones I’ve got have small eye hole cut outs and I have to stretch to fit my eyes in. The sheets are soaked in essence and when I left it on my face for 20 minutes, it was still damp when I took it off. I personally like the packaging because the less they use the better it is for the environment. Only the second day in using them so I can’t comment on the brightening effect, but my skin does feel softer after usage. I have sensitive combination skin and the mask have not caused any discomfort so far. So overall, very decent masks for very cheap price.

I haven’t tried them since this review! Maybe they have improved! I’m glad they worked out for you!
