MAC Tropical Taboo Mineralize Eyeshadow Review & Swatches
The MAC Tropical Taboo Collection includes six new, limited edition shades for Summer 2013. I find there are two different types of folks when it comes to Mineralize Eyeshadows, those who love ’em and those who simply hate ’em.
I find I fall in between the line lately as I used to LOVE Mineralize Eyeshadow now I kinda have a love/hate relationship with them. Being in between should not be an option…you either love ’em or you hate ’em but you don’t both love and hate them. Insert rolling eyes here…!
Perhaps the ones from the MAC Tropical Taboo Collection will be a strictly a love?
MAC Mineralize Eyeshadows ($23.50) are stunning little creations within the pan. You won’t find a more intricately baked eyeshadow with such incredible veining in the makeup world in my opinion! Granted Laura Geller does a heck of a nice baked eyeshadow as well with similar stye veining but MAC makes it an utter art form.
Caribbean and Time To Tango
I fear these shadows are challenging especially if you dislike glitter. Although beautiful within the pot I find they amount of glitter that comes along with that beauty is sometimes tiresome to put up with. It’s a lot of powder, a ton of shimmer, and a good deal of fall out to contend with.
Caribbean is probably my favorite of the two I tried. It’s a gorgeous rose with elements of reddish coppery veining. As gorgeous as it is it does run a bit drier and quite glittery. I find you get more glitter than color during application as the shade seems to want to migrate every which way and kinda has a knack for separating from all that glitter. Mmm that probably sounds weird but that’s how it feels…it feels like all the glitter just falls right out of the powder somehow and ends up all over the damn place. The color runs sheerer and kinda looks a bit gritter in finish. As gorgeous as it is in the pan, I’d say it wasn’t a winner during actual application!
Time to Tango is a lavender almost periwinkle shade with finer gold sparkle. It applies more of a frosty silver on eyes and has intense shimmer. Again, I suffer from major fall out here. I know, “just clean up the fall out” but sometimes it isn’t as simple as that. It seems to have a knack for ending up everywhere…my hair, my cheeks, my freaking chest…it’s a disco ball nightmare of a shade. Plus I really dislike the foiled frosty finish of the color. It might do well as a smoky eye look combined with some sort of matte black shade however, the challenge of application doesn’t feel worth it to me though!
MAC Mineralize Eyeshadows are stunning little critters if you have the patience to apply them correctly. I think the learning curve is huge here especially if you’re new to eyeshadows as having to deal with all that fall out is horrifying for both new and old makeup users a like. As beautiful as they are I’m not sure I’m willing to dedicate the time needed to apply them.
