Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadow in Icy Mint

The Maybelline Icy Mint Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadow was a shade I was hopeful about but like all the Maybelline Color Tattoo Summer 2013 Eyeshadows it didn’t have a good run. Not sure what happened with the formula here but some folks profess they LOVE the Summer shades and others, like me, rant them as being awful.

Take a peek at Icy Mint, you decide.

Maybelline Icy Mint Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadows is one of EIGHT new, limited edition shades that Maybelline launched for Summer 2013. I’m sitting here right now and wishing Summer away so that I can dream about Maybelline potentially gifting us with Fall 2013 shades that are better than these Summer ones. Right?

Icy Mint is soft iridescent green that reflects blue and aqua. It’s all about the frost here but not about the color unfortunately as this applies very sheer. Sheer can be ok but unfortunately like most of the Summer colors application is a pain. The formula is slippery and thinner and applies streaky and blends out to a patchy finish. The color takes a fair bit longer to set than the original Tattoo formula which results in creasing and fading. As I blend the unevenness of the finish becomes more and more evident and I get patchy layers of shadow combined areas of my lid that is bare as they seem to blend away as I work.

Unfortunately even as I base I have headaches as the color seems to fade and crease powder and pigment eyeshadows due to the slower set time.

Meh!

Another shade that just didn’t quite work out.

Count me surprise as the Tattoo Eyeshadows were an instant hit for many and the introduction of new shades made for some happy fans. But after trying the formula many were disappointed including myself.

I bought them all.. and the only ones I kept were Precious Pearl (I love this one and nobody ever mentions it), Lavish Lavender (love purple, so hard to find a light purple base, and it doesn’t give me too much trouble), and Seashore Frost (because it’s neat.. lol). All the rest went back to the store. For the record I own every single CT ever sold in the US.. and these are the first I’ve decided simply were not worth it.

This one in particular went a sickly grey green on me, and was terribly sheer no matter what I did with it. It also moved around on my eye during application even if buffed on in sheer layers.

I really wish they would come out with a matte collection.. I would love a nice matte brown and a matte beige. I would also love a peach, shimmer or matte.

I agree with you as this was a rather disappointing Color Tattoo, but I found that it still made a huge difference under my blue/green eyeshadows! Although it barely looked like I had applied anything onto my lid when I put this on, I tested it one day under some blue eyeshadows on one eye and without this base on the other eye, and there was a visible difference in pigmentation and opacity!

you are so right! i got two of this collection and i use it for one thing- the highlight in the corner of my eyes. no matter how many times i build it up it just wont get more opaque. i saw a blogger who put the new ones over black and made it a holo statement, but i dont wear black near my eyes so thats out. i wore the white shimmer one in the corner of my eyes yesterday (20 hour day including sitting in the heat at a graduation) and that shit did not move. but altogether disappointing. caca.

I don’t have icy mint, but I bought the lavender one and seashore frosts. I like the colors, but hate the formula. Hopefully Fall has better offerings!

I bought em all to try and only kept the white-yellow one that goes on icy blue and the duo chrome purple-blue one. The lavender and mint were too sheer. Very sad about Maybelline 2013, their color tattoos could be amazing. For one I don’t think any shade should be limited edition because it makes em so hard to find. I was lucky to walk into a Rite Aid with a seemingly untouched display. I heard only 2 of every limited color tattoo shade is bought to sell in every store and I believe it because it has been my experience. Lastly, why are they not doing a rainbow of shades? Most people love these things and they’re dropping the ball way too often, like Inked in Pink for example, how could they release that shade, so unimpressed. And they somehow haven’t made a good shade in the purple family yet. And their blue in the metal line, don’t even getme started. I thought I was getting the color in the pot. Instead it goes on sheer. I have no idea how the model on the website has it so deep and saturated. Must be taking patches of the color and patting it on. Sigh sigh sigh.. Benefit has beautiful cream eye shadows, don’t understand how Maybelline can’t do the same. Rant over!

Unfortunately this applied patchy on me too, love the color, but I don’t think I will repurchase,UNLESS they change the formula. If they ever make it permanent and make it like the rest, then yes, because the color is gorgeous. 🙂 (fingers, toes and eyes crossed)
