Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss Review & Swatches

Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss

Having never tried the original Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss I can’t really speak for how it compares to the new one. Revlon recently introduced twelve brand new shades and new packaging to their Super Lustrous Lipgloss Collection as well as a new promo image featuring Emma Stone modeling these new glosses.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss is apparently a fond favorite because I’m reading tweets, blog posts, etc…etc..about how wild everyone is for these so of course, when I noticed Harmons had a new display of these I had to grab a few.

Take a look!

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss

I believe I paid $5.49 per shade but Ulta does have them at Buy 1, Get 1 50% off at $7.99 each this week with Free Shipping on orders of $50 or more if you can’t find them locally.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss according to Revlon is a new silkier, non stick formula enriched with Vitamin E and Avocado Oil. Apparently the old version contained an SPF 15 but I can’t find any mention of that in this formula, just thought I’d note that.

I think people are going a little TOO crazy for these from what I’ve read and seen. They are ok but they don’t warrant that much excitement. Either that or I’m just nit picky.

The formula has an easy glide on lips with a quite hydrating formula that isn’t sticky, heavy, or tacky. They have tiny light reflecting pigments that give lips a pretty hint of shimmer. My lips felt incredibly comfortable through the wear as the formula doesn’t dry them out. The gloss stays where I put it without migrating either. Out of the two shades I tried both had a very nice hint of tint that was near opaque enough to cover my own natural lip color so pigment is quite good here. They have a sponge tip applicator which saturates very well with color so you can build the gloss easily on lips. I wish they were a bit more glossy and shiny.

Looking at from a drugstore lipgloss point of view I’d say they do reign supreme. Glosses seem to be a sore disappointment for me at the drugstore with many being too sticky, too sheer, or just too strange feeling on my lips. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss offers color in a fairly hydrating formula that doesn’t feel sticky. I think they are slightly over hyped, don’t kill me but nice none the less for drugstore lipgloss!

Heck with these glosses (I’m not a gloss person anyway)…try the Super Lustrous Shine Finish lipstick in the same display — they are awesome! I have five of ’em!

    • the Muse

I didn’t like the colors…am I terrible? I was hoping for some nice peach shade or at least some sort of natural rose….but all the shades didn’t appeal :-/ I ended up walking out with none!? what is wrong with me!?

  • Christina

I actually thought that one of the colors I didn’t purchase — Lovers Coral — would be a Muse color.

    • the Muse

I have to say I don’t remember seeing that! *shakes my first* damn you! I have to go back! LOL ;D

    • Jaz

There is definitely a peachy color. I was so excited when this display arrived at work. Definitely spent like 27 bucks on makeup- score!

  • HapaGirl

Ooh! That Kiss Me Coral shade actually looks really beautiful on you, Muse. I think it compliments the bronze-y eye look quite nicely. I love Revlon lip gloss formulas but I don’t think I’ll go out of my way to get this unless it goes on sale.

    • the Muse

thanks hapa! kinda feel that way about these, if they are on sale do haul but if not mmm don’t bother :-/

  • Christina

In that case, I think Honey Bare is another Muse color. BTW Project Swatch had swatches (go figure) of a few of the colors, including the two I thought of as being to your liking.

    • the Muse

      I’ll go take a look you’re a bad bad bad influence ;-D

  • Kimmwc03

I liked these glosses before so I got one of the new ones (Kiss Me Coral) and the lipstick in Lovers Coral. You should definitely try the lipstick, Muse.

    • the Muse

so christina tells me 😀 lol have to go back obviously!

  • ash

oh my gosh! I used to love these! in fact, as gross as it sounds, my little girl found one of my old ones and she plays with it. I will definitely be checking on these!! woot!

  • Anat

Hey muse, can i ask what blush is it in the pictures above?? Looks amazing…

  • Eraser

I loved the original so I’ll try this at some point. I got the Shine l/s & it’s decent for a sheer l/s. For those of you interested in cosmetic history, several of these shade names are from long-ago Revlon collections (Revlon was the first to promote seasonal colors in collections), including your Pango Peach. Fatal Apple was one of their first; however, the juicy red gloss of today is nothing like the deep matte red of the 1940s original. Search “Revlon ads” in Flickr – it’s so cool to see the old magazine ads.

Sometimes your pictures aren’t helpful, they are always at the same angle. It’s hard to really tell a color or shade that way. Mix it up a lil, show some diff. views.

    • the Muse

sorry to hear it jen I do my best, I’m not a great photographer I fear!

  • Holly

They were on sale at my grocery store, plus I had a coupon so I picked up Snow Pink (I think that’s the shade – it’s teeny writing). It’s… just okay. It’s definitely not the first gloss I dig around in my bag for, but it’s not lousy. It’s almost sheer and the formula is pretty average.

    • the Muse

i felt the same holly, the two I got had fairly ok pigment and the formula is nice but not something I’d reach for daily….it’s just not that big a deal.

  • ash

btw, for anyone thinking about these, CVS has their Revlon on sale B1G1 50% off plus if you spend $10 on Revlon you get $4 back in their Extracare bucks. Also, there is a coupon that prints out at their red machine for $4 off a $12 cosmetics purchase– makes their products a steal!!

  • Clio

I definitely agree to the above comment about the identical, repeated camera angles.

Do you prefer these glosses to Revlon’s Colorburst lipgloss? I have three of those (Bordeaux, Papaya, and Rosegold), and I absolutely love them! Very curious how these compare.

    • the Muse

sorry clio/jen I try and keep them consistent, I’d feel a little ridiculous doing a variety of poses ;-D I typically take them in the AM in my bathroom prior to heading to work. and lord knows I’m not a photographer.

def like colorburst gloss a bit better, the color range is friendlier for me! I think colorburst is a thicker, little tackier, and has a good deal more of shimmer.

  • smashinbeauty

I agree that drugstore lip glosses are either good or bad. I will try these out 😀 In general I avoid glosses because of their sticky finish

  • Steph

I think the old formula for these was so much better! I was so disappointed they decided to get rid of those, but I did end up finding the old style for only extremely cheap once it was announced they would be discontinued

  • Kelly

I’m surprised you don’t like them that much. I love them! I think the formula is really nice and like that it is not very opaque. I like medium pigmented colors. It’s not sticky which is great and is very moisturizing. I just bought another two today which are kiss me coral and fatal apple. I purchased super natural and raisin rage a few months ago. Another plus is that they smell really nice. I can’t stand lip products with a bad smell, it’s sad to say that scent can be a deal breaker. Maybelline elixirs have a great formula but the scent is really intolerable in my opinion.

I’ve purchased in shade super natural, but the pango peach are too lovely!
