Rimmel Coral Garden Moisture Renew Lipstick (Fall 2013) Review & Swatches

Rimmel Coral Garden Moisture Renew Lipstick Fall 2013

Rimmel reintroduces us to Moisture Renew Lipstick this Fall with a new selection of shades in the Dazzling Duchess special display popping up now at drugstores.

It took me a hot second to firgure out if I had or hadn’t tried Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick before so I headed home, sorted through my stash, and realized Rimmel is merely re-pimping these out in new shades of Berries, Pinks, and Nudes.

I only picked up a single shade from this new launch, Coral Garden, and I think I’m set as far as these lippies go.

Let’s take a look!

I’m prone to dry lips so I love the idea of a moisturizing lipstick or gloss.

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick supposedly reduces dryness up to 65% with a formula that contains Hylaronic Acid. So they not only moisturize but help to retain moisture.

One of the things you have to love about these is the pretty royal purple metallic tube. I love good packaging and these are quite lovely to look at!

The original Moisture Renew formula comes in over 20 shades and Rimmel adds six more for Fall 2013. Whether or not these are limited or not though isn’t something I cannot confirm although the display does NOT say anything about limited edition.

The formula didn’t work me when I originally tried it and it doesn’t now either. If you want something moisturizing and shiny I’d go with the new Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick and skip these, just a thought!

They have a nice creamy feel but I expected the texture to have more of a moisturizing, slicker texture. They feel dewy but not really moist. The formula doesn’t really feel particularly hydrating to me yet they are lightweight and comfortable to wear just not what I expected from something named “moisture renew”.

Pigmentation is excellent here on the shade I tried, Coral Garden. This shade is slightly deceiving as it looks dusky rose or pink in the tube but applies as a dusky coral on lips.

I’m not keen on the odd taste of these and scent. It’s kinda a plastic rosy fragrance and flavor but it disappears soon enough after application.

Moisture Renew Lipstick is a decent enough formula with great color pay off and fairly great packaging plus the price isn’t too bad at around five dollars per tube. However, they aren’t terribly exciting if you’re expecting a highly moisturizing lipstick as this I don’t feel they excel at.

Shoppers had a sale on these and the Kate Moss ones so I picked a couple up yesterday….then went back for more today. I havn’t had a Rimmel lipstick in forever (about 10 years…eeep), but I had heard good things about the matte ones. They’re awesome for mattes, not drying at all, and at $5.99 (regular $8 here) I thought they were a good deal. The regular ones were $4.79 instead of $8. I highly recommend the matte ones!

I usually pass on Rimmel lipsticks but as I was idly browsing at the drugstore this shade caught my interest. Beautiful color on the bullet, I had to have it! You’re right though, it applies as a different shade. I have only one other Rimmel, a shade called Just So and that applies a different shade too. I’m okay with the color weirdness on the latter because I bought it for the shade name. Yeah I know, crazy right? Its a whole other level of makeup addiction LOL. Agreed on the smell issue. I actually enjoy the smell of Just So (different formula) but Coral Garden is kinda bothersome.

Really love that shade on you! Looking good Musey! <3 🙂

Darn! I was hoping they did away with that scent. I guess there’s no chance. I love the Revlon Super Lustrous Shine Finish by the way–have the pink and the plum.

Maybelline also has a lovely lippie in this same colour family…it’s the ColorSensational #615 Summer Sunset. I came upon it be accident but it’s quickly grown into a new favourite!

    Cheers, Lisa

In another comment I mentioned that I got this – I’ve always been a big fan of Rimmel lipstick so I like this formula, although I’ll agree that it isn’t as super-moisturizing as it claims to be. This is a gorgeous color though, especially for us brunettes.

I bought this shade b/c it looked pretty in the tube and when I swatched it on my hand but after getting back home when I tried it on my lips, it looked completely different, was little too dark for my complexion making it a bit dull. Now I try to mix and match this shade with others.

Today I ordered this color, basically on impulse, because I was just a few dollars shy of getting free shipping. I was able to get it for only $3.50 which being cheaper than the cost of shipping, I figured I may as well. To be honest I couldn’t figure out which color to get because it’s so hard to tell over internet. I do agree with another comment that this doesn’t look very “coral”, but it does look like a nice color. I’m sorry the formula didn’t work for you. I’ve never had problems with this line of lipstick and have several shades. I’m probably 2-3 shades darker than you, so it may look different against my complexion.
