Disney Ariel Storylook Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
The Disney Ariel Storylook Eyeshadow Palette did indeed sell out very fast yesterday but stores should be getting them shortly. From my understanding the palette will be available later in the month as there is a slight delay in the store release.
I hope all of you got your hands on one and if not I wish you much luck locating one!
Today I thought I’d haul mine out and review it for you.
Let’s take a look!
The Disney Ariel Storylook Eyeshadow Palette ($55) is a new, limited edition Sephora palette that contains 20 eyeshadows each of which is 0.035 oz in size.
This comes in a hard cardboard box with a slide out velvet lined tray which contains the eyeshadows. The great thing about the palette is Sephora paid extra attention to creating beautiful art on the outside cover and a removable eyeshadow tray so once you’re done with the shadows you can reuse the box to store small trinkets like jewelry (the tray is velvet lined and very sturdy) inside of it. The fact the shadow tray is removable also makes for easy application as you can remove it to use and pop it back in when not in use.
I found the palette contained a nice selection of colors all inspired by the Little Mermaid. Most of the shades are quite vibrant and bold with a few natural golds, beiges, and creams thrown in as highlighter shades. The palette is dominated by gorgeous aquatic shades which includes greens, aquas, blues, and of course, purple to represent the Sea Witch. The shadows vary in finish so you have mattes here as well as velvet, satin, shimmer, and frosty textures. So you aren’t only getting a variety of colors but also a ton of finishes to work with as well.
I think the formula on each shadow varies from shade to shade. For example I thought Blue Lagoon was terribly dry and dense yet Caspian Sea was a stunningly pigmented teal blue with a smooth texture. I found some shades a little too frosty like Wanderin’ Free and Your Voice where as others provided satiny and buttery textures like Scuttle and Triton. Overall, all the shades had a good deal of pigment it was just some proved drier than others and a little difficult to work with. They are a bit powdery and do crumble a little bit which does lead to fall out in some instances as well. But in the long run I’d say about 90% of the eyeshadows performed fantastically with a formula that blended well, provided plenty of pigment, and had an easy to apply formula.
Blue Lagoon, Scuttle, Flounder, Sebastian
Flotsam, Seashells, Les Poissons, Caspian Sea
Unfortunate Souls, Atlantica, Fins, Your Voice
Triton, Sick of Swimmin’, Ursula, Sha La La
Wanderin’ Free, Jetsam, Sea Witch, Treasures Untold
I don’t feel like the palette limits users in anyway as it contains a good deal of colors that work well together. There are a few shades that are challenging for myself such as Floatsam and Jetsam as these are darker and accentuate my darker circles. However, there aren’t any shades I felt, “Gee, how would I use this in a look? Or how does this go together with that?” I feel like the palette is quite user friendly to either wear shades together or individually to create any number of looks!
The only real limit is your imagination and perhaps if you aren’t a fan of color (as this contains a good deal of it) the palette might not be terribly appealing.
Overall, I really liked the palette! I think the shades work well together, the quality is excellent overall and there is definitely pigment here to be happy with!
Wearing Caspian Sea and Fins
If you see it in store and you’re a fan of bold shades especially aquatic ones or hell, if you’re just a Little Mermaid fan I would definitely haul it.
Anyone own it?
What are YOUR thoughts about it?
This sold out at Sephora.com and hopefully it’ll pop back in stock shortly. It’ll also be in store soonish!
