Maybelline Seashore Frosts Color Tattoo Eyeshadow Review & Swatches

Maybelline Seashore Frosts 24 HR Color Tattoo Eyeshadow

Maybelline Seashore Frosts is possibly my favorite of the Summer 2013 Color Tattoo Eyeshadows launched. Although it suffers the same issues I had with many of the Summer shades I can’t help but love this VERY complex and unique shade.

If you can find it I highly urge you to grab a pot (or maybe two!).

Seashore Frosts is one of eight limited edition shades that Maybelline launched earlier this Summer. I’ve expressed quite a bit of annoyance with the Summer shades as the formula has been highly inconsistent with what I’ve seen from the Color Tattoo Eyeshadow range.

Seashore Frosts like many of the newer shades of Color Tattoo Eyeshadow is a very slippery texture which makes it a little challenging to blend at times. I always find cream eyeshadows difficult to blend with fingers when they are super slick with a slippery texture as I feel like I’m blending the color away rather than onto my lid. In this case, I decided to use the Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadow Brush and successfully piled color on, patted it into place, and was able to get a fairly good wash of the shade onto my lids. It does have a slow set time so you really have to be patient during this time! When it does finally dry down you’ll find it is quite budge proof without issues of fading or creasing or at least that was the case on my drier eyes. This was a relief as many of the shades from Summer had a similar texture and ended up fading or creasing within an hour or two of application.

Part of the brilliance here is of course, the shade. Many of the Summer shades had a duochrome effect something I am not the least interested in to be honest. But in the case of Seashore Frosts the effect is stunning. This looks like a gray blue in the pot with a golden iridescence. It applies with a faint metallic finish and creates this very interesting illusion as it reflects blue, purple, and gold. One of my favorite eye looks is combining gold with blue eyeshadow and this creates that effect with one simple shade!

Seashore Frosts is a must have. It has a few hiccups but the color is stunning and well worth the pick up!

It should be at drugstores now I’ve seen the display at CVS still.

I own it and I love it! I don’t always feel comfortable with a blue eyeshadow, but the duo chrome in this helps make it more wearable I think. It can be hard for middle-aged women like myself to wear blue, because some people think you just haven’t updated your look from back in the 1980’s! I also have the yellow-green one and I love that too.

I luuuvv this shade too! I found that the best way to apply it was to first put a layer of Audacious Asphalt Color Tatoo. Then apply a layer of Seashore Frost on top. It’s perfect because Audacious Asphalt is too patchy on its own and Seashore Frosts is too slippery on its own but together they make duochrome eyeshadow heaven! First time I’ve commented on your awesome site 🙂

It’s gorgeous! I just wish it was CF. If so, I’d snap it up.

I’ve got these in 7 different colours, and I really like “Too Cool” and “Barely Branded”; they are great for putting higher up on the lid (especially as a highlighter under the brow bone), where you don’t have to worry about creasing so much. Then I put a bolder/darker colour below that. However, I have found that with primer I’ve had good success with Pomegranate Punk on my lid/in my lid crease. Nowhere near as pigmented or nice as MUFE’s Aqua Creams, but an acceptable cheaper sub (but only in the case of some colours, as you mention). 🙂

I actually wore this three days in a row over the weekend. I had the same initial disappointment, as I’ve worn the others released earlier primer-free, but haven’t had an issue with creasing as long as I wore it over my normal eyeshadow primer. Without any powder to set, either.

So I’m not too upset if I can get them workable just by putting primer underneath. That’s like every powder shadow I own, so if I’m getting a nifty duochrome shadow by using the same step I use daily, it’s not a big deal for me. Especially at that price point.

This was my favorite out of the ones I got from the summer shades. These were one of the hardest products ever to find!!!

I have this color too & I love it a lot. I can’t pull off many shades of blue, but this one looks really nice and it’s so simple & easy to wear. I put it on over UD Primer Potion by patting it on until the color was even and it wore amazingly on my oily lids for several hours.

I also have the yellow gold shade from this collection and while it’s sheerer than Seashore Frosts, it’s still kind of nice. I wore that one over UD’s Primer in Greed and it wore pretty well for several hours too.

This was the only new color I picked up. I love it!! It flashes blue, pink, purple, gold, so cool! I layered it over a purple shadow and the pink and gold really popped. Then I layered it over black shadow and it turned a burnished gold. So fun to play with. I even went a bit nuts and layered it over red lip liner on my lips. OMG, matte red with gold shimmer. It was surprisingly gorgeous!

A little late on your review with this one. These were originally put out on shelves in April and I believe their pull date was late June. I found this and the white LE summer shade at Walgreens after a very nice sales associate had already pulled them from the shelves but was kind enough to check the back for me. Jackpot! This shade is highly sought after and is going for a small fortune on evilbay. It looks stunning on you. 🙂

    • the Muse

sorry 🙂 other things came ahead of it this Summer 😀 thanks! you’re too kind ;-D I’m glad you got it even at a small fortune it was worth it, great shade imho!

  • Caroline

I’ve read a number of reviews of these limited edition Color Tattoos, and it seems that Seashore Frosts is the shade to have. Alas, I’ve never seen these in any of my local drugstores! I swear, it’s like they don’t send these things to the Midwest. Thanks for the review, though! I’m going to continue to keep an eye out. 🙂

  • lejeune

I love how you color coordinate a lot of your outfits and makeup – it’s so pretty!

  • Christina

Have it. Love it. In fact, have two since it is the nefarious LE that is the favorite ploy of Maybelline and L’Oreal to make me crazy (well, crazier all things being relative).

    • the Muse

lol and watch it relaunch next year and you’ll be like, crap why did I purchase a backup!?

  • amy

I LOVE this shade. I use my Sonia Kashuk concealer brush to pat on the color, and I use Tough As Taupe in the crease it’s such a simple, yet extremely flattering look on dark eyes, and it literally lasts all day, even in the SoCal Summer heat & humidity!

  • telle

it is gorgeous!!! it looks absolutely lovely on you!! I will have to see if i can hunt it down somewhere here and hopefully avoid evilbay. :p 🙂

  • Kathy

I have this shade and it makes an interesting eyeliner as well!

  • Nadia

I snapped this baby up when it came out and I love it! Have you tried adding a bit of taupe shadow in the crease with this? It really helps define the eye. I have very similar coloring as you, try it! 🙂 love you, Muse!

    • amy

That’s *exactly* how I wear it! I just put a bit of this on the lid, Tough As Taupe through the crease, add mascara, and I’m done. I don’t even bother with a highlight, or eyeliner, and it’s so perfect for Summer.

  • Kimmwc03

I have it and love it despite the “hiccups”. It’s the only one of the summer, limited edition shades that is worth it IMO.

  • amy

This collection is still “popping” up here & there in my area (SoCal), but not in the actual displays, which have all been taken down. All the stores I’ve been to are notorious for not keeping shelves stocked with the correct product, and just stick LE shades in with the rest. I would suggest searching through the permanent displays at local stores, as there may still be a few of these stuck behind other shades.

  • kimmyyy

I have NO idea where to find this! I’ve looked all over at Walgreens, Target and CVS and I have yet to see it. I haven’t checked Walmart. Either Texas stores are holding out on me or I’m just blind! I also hate that I can’t find it sold online anywhere. Grrrrrrrrr!

  • Melissa

Kimmyyy – Try eBay. There were plenty of them on there when I checked a couple weeks ago. This was a summer seasonal item and its pull date was late June. (At least according to Walgreens) so I doubt you’ll find it at the stores. Good luck.

  • amy

Kimmyyy- You can also try Amazon, or check the shelves of the permanent shades. Although I’m quite certain most stores have pulled the end-caps, they may have stashed the left-overs there. That’s what I’ve noticed happening where I live, in at least 5 different stores. Good Luck!

  • Sun

I just picked up “Tough As Taupe” after watching Lisa Eldridge’s latest vid on heat-proof makeup, and I’m LOVING it! It looks taupe, but when applied, it has a lilac-y, grayish undertone. Paired with Urban Decay eye pencil in “Corrupt” it makes for an easy and lovely look.

  • Carrie Nash

This color is so pretty. If it shows up here (way down South Mississippi) it’ll be August! It’s ass backwards here and everything moves at snail speed lol! The limited editions never make here or it’s already time for the new collections.
Anyway, anyone know if it is similar in color to the Chanel IllusionD’Ombre released last August-Destination? I stalked Chanel’s website for 2 months waiting for that to come out.

    • Carrie Nash

I think I just answered my question when I read the reviews of the other 2 shades in the blue family. This one definitely isn’t similar. But I’ll never find it

  • Lanie

so, I was looking at the Maybelline Tattoo display the other day at my local CVS and I noticed behind the regular colors there were maybe 3 or 4 pots. I pulled them out and what did I find?? Seashore frosts!! NO WAY!! There were several other colors as well from the summer collection, but I mainly wanted this one. I LOVE IT!! It reminds me of MAC’s Idol Eyes, which I have hit pan on 3 times now. Not an exact dupe, but reminds me of it. This is the only tone of blue I can wear.
