I got this because I’ve been using their regular cleansing water in the mornings for quite a while. I thought maybe this would have a little more kick since it is touted to remove makeup. Not so much. It didn’t remove my eyeliner and really didn’t remove all of the product off of my face. I had on sunscreen, primer, and the Amore Pacific Cushion Control base makeup in addition to the Josie Maran Coconut Water blush. I still had to wash my face. It will probably work great if you’re wearing very little makeup or if you’re not wearing primers and stains and so forth. Feels and smells nice but don’t expect it to remove everything.

i think all cleansing waters are meant for super quick clean up but not for harder to remove eye makeup. nars/mac/any many asian ones are fab but they never really do that great job of removing everything so I feel ya deb!

I’m a fan of Caudalie’s original cleansing water, so naturally, I’m going to have to try this one!

    • the Muse

shelly, aimee just commented it’s actually the same one just repackaged!

I can’t tell if they changed the product or just the name but I’ve used it for years. It does a pretty good job depending on the makeup but it’s best if used with the caudalie moisturizers because the moisturizers basically work like a magnet to absorb and lock in the moisture from the cleanser, elixir and grape water. Any of them do it well but they really earn their prices when used together. It’s one of those systems that’s really interdependent.

i never even knew they had a cleansing water ha…behind on the times!

This is actually a repackaging! I love it. It’s my favorite cleansing water of all the brands.

One of my favorites! I hope it’s only repackaging since it’s pretty good. Now Muse, it’s nothing like the Beauty Elixir. For that one think Rosemary. Quite striking and destabilizing at first, it’s easy to get hooked on it! This summer I kept mine in the fridge and it was heaven every time I used it. Sephora has the small size you could get that to try it. 🙂

oooooo! I LOVE how Caudaline products smell I bet it is lovely ;-D think I’ll have to try!

I know but a girl can hope, right? I think I just glommed onto the makeup removing part and silly me thought it might be some kind of new and improved something. And you’re right, I’ve tried others and they all perform about the same. Here’s hoping that one will eventually hit the market that will allow us to occasionally just be lazy late at night and not have to go through the whole face cleaning ritual 🙂

Sounds delicious! Err, like it smells delicious, I mean. 😉 Stupid question – is a cleansing water like a cleansing oil (i.e. a lucky few can use it as both a makeup remover and a facial cleanser, but most people use it and then use an additional cleanser), or is this really meant to truly cleanse your face?

    • the Muse

i guess you can consider it as a pre-wash or a lazy girl’s guide to get it off fast. It isn’t like a cleansing oil in the fact you need water to rinse it off. You simply saturate a cotton pad, swipe makeup off, and you’re done. It’s good for those that wear really light makeup. You can of course prewash with it if that’s your thing…and follow up by washing your face with your regular cleanser or cleansing oil after. Personally I use cleansing waters if I get in late and wanna get a quickie makeup removal in prior to hitting the bed but other than that I do my typical nightly removal with cleansing oil followed up with a cleansing wash of some sort that foams.

Ah, so I will pass on this. I always remove my makeup and then follow it up with an actual cleanser because I have very oily, acne-prone skin. Thanks for your help!

Hey! I love your reviews! I was always confused if one could use cleansing waters as toner as some people say its okay to use it as a toner, but others say it can’t replace what a toner does (balances the pH). What do you think?
