Dior Airflash Matte Touch Long Lasting Airy Powder Review & Swatches

Dior Airflash Matte Touch Long Lasting Airy Powder

Ok, so Dior Airflash Matte Touch is possibly the most unique, interesting, and fun product I’ve run across this year. Essentially Dior Airflash Matte Touch Long-Lasting Airy Powder is simply a spray powder. I actually expected this to be some sort of mattifying spray kinda like Urban Decay De-Slick or even one of Skindinavia facial mists. Of course, I expected it to be a finer mist….what I didn’t expect is a face powder, in a can, that I can mist, on my face.

Dude…the coolness!

Dior Airflash Matte Touch Long Lasting Airy Powder is $49 and comes in one universal shade to set your makeup to a matte finish. It comes in the same style aerosol as Diorskin Airflash Spray Foundation. You’ll basically be holding this a few inches away from your face and misting it in the shape of a z onto your face.

It doesn’t feel wet or watery but feels like a burst of air onto your face. Cool right? I think so. Dunno why but the idea of a simple facial powder contained in an aerosol can gets me excited.

Excitement over though….

I don’t particularly like the product. For one thing you’ll never get the longer use out of this you would a regular potted or loose powder. At best, with daily use, you’re looking at a month’s worth of powder. I’d say your average pan powder would last you six months to a year…so you see the expensive dilemma we have here.

My other issue with the product is the fact it bursts out of the can as a really dark orange. That’s fine at first but if you’re applying it to closely you’ll notice it has a slight staining effect so you’re left with little subtle spots of orange here and there. Secondly, during application you’ll find it applies very unevenly. The best results would be applying it and using a bushier brush to blend it out. This isn’t a spray, boom, done! This is more a spray and take time out to blend it property otherwise your brows and lashes have a heavy layer of orange-y beige powder as does your forehead, cheeks, and chin. AS I mentioned above it is orange at first but fades to a lighter shade of orange-y beige which for the most part is transparent but I think if you’re super fair you might find that it creates casts a strange finish on your skin. Personally I felt it made me look a little orange-y….It is indeed a matte finish so beware if you have drier skin like mine as I felt like it clung to my patchier areas and if not blended correctly will likely emphasize pores.

Interesting?

Very!

Practical?

Nay.

Dior Airflash Matte Touch Long Lasting Airy Powder is an interesting and innovative product but isn’t a practical or terribly friendly on your wallet. You’ll have more manageability with a simple face powder and sponge during application than you would armed with this powder mist and a brush. This mist has a learning curve and results that aren’t quite what I pictured….! Ideally I’d love it if it applied smooth and evenly but at the moment I’m misting on and having to blend out with a powder brush so it defeats the purpose of the uber cool packaging. I love the idea, I just don’t love the performance. Sorry Dior.

Tried it?

Do share!

It’s available now at Sephora, Sephora.com, and any of your favorite Dior counters.

Tried and returned. It made me look like an oompa-loompa. I’m not gonna lie – if Dior expands this line and includes a translucent or a light shade, I’d buy it and keep it. I tried applying this by spraying it on my face, and by spraying it on a dense powder brush, and neither way worked. I was actually sad to return this, but at just shy of $50, there’s no way I could talk myself into keeping it for “my collection.”

I was excited to finally try this but so disappointed when I did. It’s too orange even after blending on me.

I’ve never tried any of these aerosol powder/foundation products because I always imagine that it would get EVERYWHERE. While you’re spraying your face, doesn’t this kind of stuff ever get in your hair or on clothes?

    • the Muse

lashes yes but thankfully not on your hair/clothes…didn’t have an issue with it going everywhere thankfully.

  • Olivia

That’s crazy! But definitely not for me. I don’t see the hype with aerosol face products yet…

  • Jane

No disrespect meant to those who do/will love this, but man oh man, does this looks like it would be a royal mess in one’s hair, clothing, countertop, etc.

  • Valerie

Thank you for your always honest reviews. I’ve seen some people loving this saying it’s worth the price and others that just don’t like it. I thought it would be a nice powder to control shine – just spray it on and be done. I’ll be skipping it – Thanks again!

    • the Muse

my pleasure valerie I just don’t think you need something this costly….! it doesn’t quite work out correctly imho! settle for a nice pressed powder but this I’d def call a skip on!

  • Diane Arnett

The Dior counter MA suggested spraying it directly onto their foundation brush, the one that is flat on top with the densely packed bristles, and buffing it out that way for more even coverage. The cool thing is being able to travel without a messy powder. It doesn’t have to be an everyday thing, and will definitely perk up your original makeup in the afternoon to get you through the evening looking good.

I tried both the instructions on the package which was to spray directly onto your face and also onto a brush but both ways wasn’t good for me sadly 🙁

  • Michelle

Hummm, someone in Dior’s R&D has been watching too many Simpsons episodes 🙂
This so reminds me of when Homer was trying to invent stuff and came up with the make-up gun … just aim at face and – Bam!

    • the Muse

I wish I could aim something at my face, shout BAM, and come out of it flawless ;D

I tested this product at Sephora, I wasn’t impressed by the first spray, nor could I see myself spending $50 on it. I know Dior makes quality products, but since its so unique in formulation I don’t know if I would remember to use it on a daily basis. I also tested out their Spray backstage foundation and that was cool I just worry about it getting on clothes and an uneven application. It would be fun to buy in the future, but at the moment I’m using up various products.

I did however purchase the Hydra Beauty Mist from Chanel-now that was a splurge at $90 but its a very nice facial mist and since its limited edition I thought it would be fun to try! If you like Evian spray, this is a really nice upgrade, and we could all use special treatment every now and then:)

I didn’t like this either, and I wanted to. Same with the touch up powder-how is one supposed to avoid eyelashes and brows with these products? A primer I could see being able to deal with, but a touch up powder that sprays onto mascara and brow product? It was a frightening mess in Sephora.

  • Cindy Ramirez

Very cool concept, but kinda not worth the time/money. As awesome as this sounds, it’ll just be easier to just dust powder over my t-zone and call it a day!

  • Icaria

Oh thank you for this review! I was quite intrigued by this but will pass. I guess big brush + loose powder will be faster and more precise. 🙂

  • Debbie

This spray is expensive considering you only get 1.7 oz, however on Sephora’s website it states you get over 2 oz!! I believe I saw 2.4oz. That is obviously a typo and If I had ordered this online I would have been deceived. I bought this yesterday and have not decided if I will keep. The reason I am hesitate is because of the finish it gives me! It gives me a soft like porcelain finish when you spray it on. The key is spray on BEFORE you put on your mascara or your fill in eyebrows. Actually the powder on lashes is great for enhancing your mascara in making your lashes look fuller. I just can not afford to spray it on because by doing it that way, I read from other reviewers that it lasted about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks!! They claim they sprayed it on as directed. So, another alternative is to ever so lightly, push down on the nozzel to squirt out about 2 short spurts and immediately brush onto face (again doing brows and lashes last ). By doing it that way the product will last longer, and you still get a nice finish, but NOT as flawless looking as when you spray it on. Its still nice and has a slightly ‘softer’ effect on the skin then other loose or pressed powders. But still, for $49 bucks it needs to last about 3 months for me! Even spraying ever so lightly on a big fluffy brush may get me only close to two months. I am guessing. If I get 3 months i will be estatic! 1.7 oz is more then what you get in the loose and compact powders so maybe by putting it on the brush i can make 3 months happen. We shall see.

I’ve been wanting to try this, and am disappointed with your results. It seems many innovative products also lack the quality of being practical. Anyway, thanks for sharing, and helping me save on not buying it.

  • DivaDebbi

thanks or the heads up Is. I generally go for dewy, so this would not be for me, but I was wondering if you ever reviewed the Dior Spray Foundations. My equally beauty obsessed cousin swears by it. I just purchased their Nudewear Foundation and I am loving it.

    • Isabella Muse

Nudewear is a great foundation 🙂 I haven’t! Sorry about that, remiss of me, I’ll try to do a review soonish as I do own it 🙂
