E.L.F. Cosmetics Beauty Bundle Not Into It

E.L.F. Studio Eye Enhancing Eyeshadow Palettes Fall 2012

Are you willing to pay $120 for an E.L.F Cosmetics Beauty Bundle? The Beauty Bundle is E.L.F. Cosmetics new subscription based “beauty box” experience that delivers E.L.F. goodies to your door step each month.

Take a peek and find out why I’m not into it (it involves some stupid high shipping and handling charges among other things).

E.L.F.’s version of the beauty box def has options available.

You can go ahead and sign up for for the auto ship which is $19.99 and this basically gets you a new bundle shipped to you every 8 weeks or there’s the 1/2 year bundle for $59.97 for three bundles and again shipped every 8 weeks.

Finally you can go big or go home with the yearly bundle that’s $120 worth of six bundles.

My issues?

E.l.F. nickles and dimes you with a $6.95 shipping charge per a box or $20 on the half year and yearly box. Seriously? $20 for shipping?

On top of that I don’t love the idea of the E.L.F. Beauty Bundle because let’s face it the company is hit or miss. You run into cheap as chips products that are incredible sometimes and other times you end up with a completely wasted product. I bet my bottom dollar that you’ve tossed away an E.L.F. product (or five) in your makeup life.

There are a slew of beauty boxes and this is just not one of them. I think on top of the crummy shipping charges they’ll potentially set you up with some of the more rubbish products they have in their catalog…just speculating but I imagine that’s the case.

No thanks.

That’s what I don’t like about Elf. If you order online you pay so much in shipping it’s just not worth it even for cheap products. They get you with that $1 a product gimmick, but hit hard on the shipping. And I agree that they are hit or miss. I can tolerate some of their brushes and their lip exfoliator but I don’t really like their makeup.

  • Sara

I’m with you on this one, I have a couple great ELF products and a few that I haven’t touched since I used them once or twice (sometimes of the same product! One color of gel eyeliner is awesome, another is horrendous). I think this idea works best with a brand where you know you like all their products. Talk to me if Urban Decay ever does a “beauty box” deal! I love getting their products in my Ipsy bag on occasion. I just got a Revolution lipstick sample in the color 69, whoot!

  • Caroline

Yeah, I agree. I’m not into it, either. I love a good beauty subscription (I currently get Ipsy and have gotten both Birchbox and Beauty Box 5 in the past), but this isn’t one I think would do much for me. I’d rather pick and choose my Elf products instead of being stuck with a bunch of potentially crappy ones!

Oh, and you’re so right: I’ve definitely thrown away an Elf product! It was their weird lip stain marker thingie that costs a dollar or two. Horrible product! LOL

  • Bailey

Eeep! Just saw it today and signed up… hoping I don’t regret it. I forgot about the ridiculous shipping charge they tack onto everything until I went to checkout. Still, curiosity got the best of me so I bit. Fingers crossed the good outweighs the bad!

  • megan

I’m not sure I understand how you feel about the Elf beauty box. Can you be more specific? Not try to hide your true feelings so much? Ha! Love the honestly. I don’t buy Elf (too busy blowing my money elsewhere) but I love how you gave a real opinion. Thanks.

  • Pixie

Oh man some of what ELF does just upsets me…did you know they’re selling their brush set in New Zealand for NINETY DOLLARS? It’s a blatant ripoff and so is this. :/

  • Kristy B.

Wow, definitely not for me either. Like you said ELF is hit and miss, even when it comes to the same product. I’ve gotten a blush before and loved it and the next time I got it, it was terrible and chalky. Way too pricey for ELF products.

  • Carina

That doesn’t sound like a good deal at all. I’m sure you’ve heard of the Le Métier de Beauté Beauty Vault VIP boxes, which requires you to pay about $350 upfront, BUT shipping is free AND you get your money’s worth for sure. Each box estimates about $29-$30 but the first box’s value was easile over $200. I mean, wow. This? Not so much!

      • Carina

I just checked it out, and wow, $50 a year? That’s a great deal, especially if you are already a fan.

        • Layla

i order the bundle and i love it, there is more than 40$ worth of products in there, id consider it a steal for only 36$ every 2 months..

  • KT

I’ve always thought of those cosmetic beauty bundles as a way to get expensive high quality items for a crazy deal…. it doesn’t make sense for me to get the elf one if they’re pretty cheap to start with and if i buy them myself i can just pick what i want and what i know is good…

  • Daniela

I totally agree. I have birchbox and ipsy because it’s cheap, it’s a present in the mail and I get to try new brands that might be too pricey or obscure to try on a whim.

If I want to try something from elf I just buy it. Besides they have good sales on already cheap products and I wouldn’t dream of buying something from them with good research. Even if something has good reviews and it’s bad for me it was max 6 bucks or whatever.

    Yep no thanks elf.

  • LINDARRAGNAR

I whole heartedly agree with you muse, the shipping prices are outrageous! But it could be interesting to get to try the out different products every 8 weeks. 😉

  • Quinctia

I’d be all over something like this if it were a brand I really liked. Even a drugstore one. I think a Nyx or Milani one could tempt me.

And…if UD ever did one…well, I think everyone would know what to chip in to get me for a birthday/christmas gift. XD

  • Dolly

I’m honestly wondering “what in the world is ELF thinking?”. It surprises me that ELF would charge so much for their bundles when their products are generally promoted at a cheap price. It’s true that some of their products are ‘hits and misses’, but I think that goes for all make-up. I have tried higher end brands that did not cut it for me. I Definitely agree that this product is not worth it though.

  • Ashley

I’ll skip. I’m assuming at $20 a box I’d be getting a lot of products, but you’re right with the quality. I’d rather not take my chances, AND be charged shipping on top of it.

  • Lisa DeAngelo

I contemplated the box because I thought what I didn’t like I could re-gift. BUT the shipping was a deal breaker for me too. I will save my 20 bucks and buy something from IT Cosmetics which has not failed me yet or one of the very cool Stila pallets or Too Faced…what to do?

  • Michelle

I was JUST talking about this sub service with someone at work. I think that the ELF face products (blush, highlighters) are pretty okay and you kind find some real gems. I happen to love the studio blush line and the baked blush line. However, I generally order when there is a free shipping code because why am I going to pay $7 of shipping on $6 of product? That’s nuts. I think if they refined this idea it could be something that people just getting into makeup might be interested in checking out. But with the current pricing structure, I just don’t see this being a service that really even gets off the ground.

    • the Muse

i really like the studio blushes too and couldn’t agree more the shipment is off the charts sometimes :-/

  • charlotte

I’ve had multiple bad experiences with ELF as well.. and as some have already mentioned it can be the exact same product one is good the other is crap. They do have a few good products (a couple of brushes, the single baked eyeshadows) but I have gotten more bad than good. I honestly have no idea why they are so popular. That said if it were $10 and free shipping I would consider it, just for fun. Almost $30 with shipping.. no way.

  • jcbg

I saw an unboxing video of an ELF beauty bundle on YouTube. For that particular bundle, it seem to be worth over the price of the $20 and shipping, and all the products were actually some of the nicer ones. I I had gotten that specific bundle, I think I would have been satisfied with it. Even so, ELF is cheap enough that I’d rather pick and choose which products I’ve already tried and would want to repurchase. Just the idea of a $20+ ELF bundle seems silly.

  • Debbie

I’m skipping on it,,cos like you said,,ELF is hit or miss. Yes indeed I have thrown away a few products I hated (like nonpigmented shadows). I do buy the $1.00 eyeshadow primer though,,plus love the HD blusher.

  • Lola

I want to try this cause of curiosity! lol but i wanted to know do you have to pay every 8 weeks? i want the $19.99
Or just pay the $19.99 one time and that’s it.
