Etude House Sweet Recipe Cupcake All Over Color Review & Swatches

Etude House Cupcake All Over Color

Etude House Sweet Recipe Cupcake All Over Color was released in five shades earlier this Summer with the Etude House Sweet Recipe Collection. Etude House Sweet Recipe Cupcake All Over Color are a cute little product as well as a multitasking one as Etude House claims you can use them on cheeks, lips, and eyes!

I personally love the idea of a multitasking product and both the promo image of the texture of the product as well as the idea of using them in a variety of different ways really interested me. For example, the gorgeous tangerine shade looks like it would make an incredible blush as well as an eyeshadow!

They are a little misleading though…

Looking at promo images of Etude House Sweet Recipe Cupcake All Over Color you’ll notice that they appear to be some sort of gel-like product or even a creamy formula of some sort. They are indeed cream but the photos are terribly misleading as the product is a densely packed cream which completely floored me. I admit I was a bit disappointed they weren’t some sort of creamy mousse-like consistency.

Sigh.

Oh well!

Blueberry Cheese Cake and Peach Sugar Cake

Each comes in a cute little cupcake style tin with a raised 3D lid that resembles a pastry tart of some sort. The packaging is darling especially if you navigate towards more kawaii beauty products. Granted if Chanel and Dior are your deal and you’re used to elegant packaging obviously these are going to look like some sort of toy or little girl’s makeup to you. However, if you have a bit of an inner child you’ll likely love them. I’ve personally never grown up so I think they are absolutely darling.

On that note I will say the packaging is not well constructed and the possibility of the cream drying out or getting harder is a likely occurrence. I’ve had them a few months now, since the release, and the formula seems a-ok but I see them at some point going bad or drying out. Hopefully I’m wrong but I feel like the lids aren’t providing enough of an airtight seal to keep the product its freshest.

The other issue I had with these was the shade selection. As I said I purchased all five but I only was able to actually use one of the five. Most of the shades are lighter pastels that I think many skin tones will find challenging to use as a blush. Shades like light lilac, light pastel peach, bubble gum pink, etc….are quite hard to use as blush in my opinion. Which probably has you wondering well what about lipgloss or eyeshadow? I’ll get to that shortly….These have a fuzzy peach-like flavor and scent on some of the darker shades where as the lighter ones taste more like bubblegum to me if you were curious about the flavor/fragrance.

As a blush these are easy to blend and use on cheeks. They have a lighter creamy texture that blends out quite easily on cheeks for a nice natural flush. Some of the shades as I said above are too crazy for my skin tone….For example Strawberry Chiffon Cake is a bright bubble gum pink and this works nice enough but it might be a tad too pink and baby dollish for me. Other shades like Blueberry Cheese Cake, a light lilac, is very difficult for me to use as a blush and a bit unflattering and finally Peach Sugar Cake is too pastel a peach for me. The two shades that did work were Orange Choux Cake which is a bright orange and Raspberry Mousse Cake that’s a reddish tangerine. On my cheeks they have a long wear which is something to say because cream blush typically fades away fast for me.

On my eyes I thought these worked ok as a base if you want to add powder on top but on their own they are muted colors and barely show up! They apply easily enough and build well on my cheeks but doing so on my lids was a challenging and again, the colors aren’t really great shadow shades as they are either too bright or too pastel for me.

On my lips I experienced the same problem…the colors are just too muted for some reason. Also again, I felt like the shades were just unflattering as lip colors and I also felt the formula was very drying on my lips.

I think in theory they sound like a delightful product plus add to that very cute packaging and you have instant lemming hard on. Or at least that’s the case for me. With a stronger shade selection that’s more universally flattering and a better texture that would be suitable for lips as well as eyes and not just cheeks they would probably win my heart.

But as is I can only use them as a blush…!

I had high hopes for these but they didn’t quite live up to my idea of them.

I wouldn’t recommend skipping them completely! Grab up one or two shades but I definitely wouldn’t advise all five shades as you can definately get yourself a far superior cream blush than this.

Tried ’em?

Love to hear your thoughts!

F2Plus1 on E-bay sells all the shades at a fairly reasonable close to retail cost (I am not affiliated with the seller).

I purchased this item.

I thought it will be creamy like the pictures which I think it’s good and easy to apply on cheek and eyes, but when I see these real pictures it quite disappointing. It looks just like ordinary (lip) balm and not very pleasant to scoop it and apply on your cheek/eyes. Might skip this one *sigh* thanks for this superb posting.helps a lot! 😀

    • the Muse

I thought so too or whipped or something…! Yes exactly my thoughts, just an ordinary little balm product…! aw my pleasure glade to hear that ;D

  • fellie

I might try other sweet recipe products like cupcake eyes. I think it looks really cute with dual colour. But I’ll purchase it after my 3rd payout :'( *lame me*
Oh yeah, I hv some questions (not related with this line) , I’m quite confused to pick cleanser foam, toner, and bb cream from Etude (since it’s the cheapest -.- ). I’ve been using AC Clinic line and it works well, but it sort of drying my skin really bad this past few weeks (from combination skin to ‘sahara’ skin).I hv sensitive skin though *poor me* and my focus is get rid of my blemishes/redness. Any suggestions ? Will help me a lot 🙂

    • the Muse

feline I don’t have the same skin type unfortunately so haven’t tried any blemish/redness products! My skin is dry as hell so I’m typically testing/reviewing/purchasing products suitable for that skin type and have no experience with products that fight blemishes/redness/or oil! So sorry wish I had some recs but I have great readers so someone might see your comment and offer a suggestion 😀 Sorry dear!

  • fellie

It’s okay :3 oh yeah, I found ur review bout the CC Cream Etude. Is it okay to use for a teen and I saw u write it can fade the redness and uneven skin etc ? Hahaha, my skin is super duper dry too now like Sahara because the effect of the AC products. Do u hv favorite moisturizer from Etude? Sorry for asking a lot and . Since I’m googling for reviews but most of them hv oily/comb skin especially Indonesian since I’m from Indonesia and I found ur skin is same like mine (dry) so I think it’ll help me finding good products 🙂

    • the Muse

it claims that but can’t say if it actually does that as I don’t have any redness Fellie so can’t say it actually does that. The Moistfull range is one of my favorites at the moment particularly the Flower one as it smells so nice. I don’t think a CC Cream is going to really treat unevenness or redness, it will conceal those problems though.

  • Núria

Ohh, but they look so cute! I was really looking forward to get the pink shade, and use it as a dupe for MAC’s Pink Swoon blush. What about blending them out, do they improve as a blush?

    • the Muse

they work great as a blush nuria…:) no issues with blending/wear/etc just some shades aren’t particularly great for my skin tone.

  • fellie

Ohh I see. Okey then. Well sometimes porducts like this can’t really promising like what it had said lol that’s why they keep on creating new stuffs since all hv their own weakness . Don’t u think so? :p I hv an eye for the moistfull , but I think I’ll take the collagen one since my friend says it’s really good.hv u tried ? I’m very curious with the flower that u’ve reviewed. But I’m quite confused to take it/not since my skin is sensitive type even I don’t mind with fragrances

    • the Muse

Many products promise a lot of different benefits and features but they do not always work. It’s all about marketing the product sometimes. The collagen like is fantastic and highly moisturizing! You’ll do great that one! The snail cream is quite nice as well.

  • fellie

Yeah so true. I used to not interested for stuffs like these and girlish look thingy but darn it korean beauty products work really good!creative with the products and PACKAGING! Omg, makes me start to crave for them! Marketing ._. Can’t imagine how surprise my friends later when I can afford to buy these and of course my appearance will change lol
Wow 😮 really? That sounds good. I’ll definitely take the collagen one
(з⌣`ε) I’m not really fond of snails thingy though. Imagining it keeps thrilling me (yukks)
Thanks for the reviews and suggestions ̯///<)

    • the Muse

i agree 🙂 yeah, marketing is def killer…makes me think I am buying a product that will change my entire life hehe! You’ll def like it! Quite moisturizing 😀 haha..it’s really not as bad as it sounds! My pleasure good luck!

  • fellie

Hahaha 😀 it’s like must hv basic need now. I don’t mind if it change my entire life to be pretty /slap XD hmm…I might try the snail one if it has small size/sample or I have more bucks on my pocket :3 thankyou~

  • Rafia

I had been eyballing these since February and finally got around to ordering one along with other parts of the collection last week. I can’t wait for them to arrive! 😀

  • dtan0914

I grabbed the Orange and Raspberry shades from the Etude House stores in Hong Kong during the Spring so I’ve had time to test them and definitely think they’re best for cheeks. 🙂 I like that they blend easily and buildable in color. It’s unfortunate the other colors didn’t work out so well, the Peach one looks fab!

    • the Muse

I had same prob…issues with eyes/lips dtan? meh! but still a mighty nice cheek product and long lasting too!

  • Sarah S.

I am 30, a boring dresser, and have fully embraced neutral makeup as my everyday look at last… but I still live and breathe for kawaii packaging like this <3 <3 <3

  • Miss D

THANK YOU so much for reviewing these! I was about to order all of them as well, but now seeing the texture and swatches here, I’m not so sure. Still, I’m very happy with my Choux base- it turned out quite nice! 🙂

  • Monica

I got the peach from Amazon and was lead to believe it would be a whipped or mousse product. Reminds me of an inexpensive version of Stila’s Convertible Color. The packaging is adorable and I wish more American cosmetics brands would jump on that bandwagon. Anyone tried their Moistfull Collagen Primer? I received a sample and liked it but am not sure about purchasing it. I’m a little obsessed with Asian cosmetics right now.

Hey Muse, is there any color in here that goes on coral on your cheeks? I feel like the only color that looks coral is the Peach one but it does look sheer.
