MAC Pressed Pigments Review & Swatches Fall 2013

MAC Pressed Pigments

MAC Pressed Pigments are back, AGAIN, for the third time in twelve new shades for the Fall 2013 season. These can applied dry or damp and seem like an appealing pick for shimmer lovers.

What did I think of MAC Pressed Pigments?

They might bring a little too much shimmer for this girl. Can’t believe I said though. Although the formula is dense and less flaky than one would expect I still feel like these have major fall out.

The texture reminds me of a cross between Bobbi Brown Sparkle Eyeshadow (Bobbi has the superior formula) and Urban Decay Stardust Eyeshadow. Using a sponge tipped applicator is key here for application as you can pat the shadow gently onto your lid and reduce fall out as well. They aren’t flaky or
gritty so don’t expect either. I find the texture very smooth during application but the formula itself is firmer to the touch in pan.

I feel like they are quite messy and glitter seems to get everywhere during application which is a rather big turn off as I don’t relish the clean up after use. Through the wear they also have a tendency to “shed” around my face and fall on my cheek bones, under my eyes, etc…..little pieces of glitter just ends up everywhere.

Shades are best applied individually as together they just go muddy and creating a contrasting eye look with two or more shades seems a rather big challenge. So you might wish to limit your eye look to single shade as they dislike playing nicely together.

If you have the time, the patience, and the will you can create some nice sparkly eye looks with these. As for me, I’m too heavy handed and impatient to actually dedicate the time these little guys need to look good.

Too much work, too little time to spare.

Do not like.

These are available now on counter.

Tried and loved ’em?

Do share!

They look beautiful, but are too high maintenance for me. It stayed on my hands a lot longer than it stayed on my eyes! You are so right Muse, the glitter was all over my face & the clean up was way too much work.

Hi there, Full disclosure: I work at MAC…but wanted to give some tips for applying these. They have a 215 brush that GREATLY aids in the application of these pigments because there is so much glitter. The first time I used these, I did so with a standard eye brush, fallout EVERYWHERE. Once I used the 215 brush meant for them it had very little fallout and oustanding color payoff. I find these work the best when applied wet as well (I used Fix+ on my brush.) The Damson looks amazing packed on the lid and blended up from the crease. It looks like i’m wearing 2-3 colors when its just the one product.

For this gorgeous pink… I would give it a shot, and since it’s shimmery I would use it only for special occasions and wouldn’t mind cleaning up since I would wear it, well not so often.

These are best used as the last step in eye makeup and with your finger (not a brush). Just a tip! 🙂

I don’t mean to be rude but that first photo is way too dark or is it my monitor? Do you use lights, cause I noticed that on your blog photos.
