Smashbox Fade to Black Photo Op Eyeshadow Palette

The Fade to Black Photo Op Eyeshadow Palette ($42) is a selection of wearable nudes combined with hints of sultry black. You get seven Photo Op Eyeshadows with this compact and it comes housed in a long, slim lined metallic gradient fuchsia to black compact. The packaging is edgy and Fall fabulous all around. Inside you’ll also get a brush for application and I thought it deserved a mention. Typically brushes included with compacts get tossed aside by yours truly but this an excellent brush with no shedding, soft bristles, and is on par with Smashbox’s larger size eyeshadow brush!

The palette has a range of both shimmer and matte shades with soft, smooth, silky textures that apply, blend, and wear very well. Even the mattes have a super silky texture and apply easily onto my drier lids without looking chalky or patchy. Photo Op Eyeshadow is hailed by many of you and that’s understand as the texture is not only easy to apply but it wears quite well even without primer as it doesn’t lose its intensity nor does it fade or crease through a long period of wear.

The Fade In shade selection of this palette contains a matte ivory, flesh, chocolate brown, and dark chocolate shade selection along with golden khaki, black, and taupe shimmer shades. You can create endless looks with these seven shades and aren’t overwhelmed by TOO much of a good thing. Don’t get me wrong monster palettes with tons of colors are awesome but sometimes all you need is seven simple shades to create some of the best looks of your makeup life.

All in all the palette is a great gateway to beautifully smoked out eyes for the Fall season. I really loved this one. And as an added bonus I really adore that Smashbox has How to Get the look videos for all of its major releases. You can easily hop onto their website and grab a video to create looks with this palette in a few simple steps!

Loves that.

Now this definitely looks like a palette that I could use everyday. It would be very easy to create a soft simple look for the day and a smokey eye for the night. I’m really liking this fade to black collection. I’ve never gotten anything from smashbox but I’m thinking I might sometime soon!

  • JoElla

    Looks beautiful on you hon!
I think I really need this, I was hoping I could pass it, but nope.. it just became a solid NEED HAHAHAHA

  • amy

I think I may actually need this! Well, “need” may not be the best word to use, but I think this will play nicely with the rest of my stash. I have the “nude” palette from a few years back (Soft Focus, or something like that), but I don’t use it much, as I prefer darker shades; this would actually complement it nicely. That palette also had a brush worth keeping, and I actually use it quite a bit!

  • Candace

I’ve seen both Fade to Black palettes in person, and am more partial to Fade Out, but the swatches for the darker shades for Fade In look incredible! Still trying to decide if I should get one of them or not.

  • Rebecca

I have been waiting for this exact palette to be created! Im in love. 🙂

  • Amber

I like how this looks on you a lot! Now I have to decide what it would do for me and whether it’s worth it! It is purdy! 🙂

  • Linda

Very tempting . . . the colors appear to be on the cool side. Is that true?

  • molly

oh emm geee! this palette is pretty! i’m normally a lipstick junkie but i must have this!!! ps what’re you wearing on your lips?

  • jen_m_sunshine

Hiya! Missed ya Muse, hope you had a good vacation. I have been trying NOT to buy this – did pick up the Fade Out and love it but then saw that BB is releasing a rich chocolate palette so am waiting to see whether I get the Fade In or her palette. I am actually a bit more partial to this….scored by Fade out at ulta with 20% off too 🙂
WAs this close to a muse approved?

    • the Muse

can’t wait for the BB stuff 😀 looks good! NICE! great deal at 20 off! Haven’t tried Fade Out but planning too shortly 🙂 VERY close 😀 Vacay was awesome thank you for asking 🙂 and I missed you too!!!!!!!!!!!

      • jen_m_sunshine

OH and BTW, there is a definite Muse NEED – the new Dior fushion mono long wear mirror shine eye shadow in millennium! OMG gorgeous and would be FAB U LUSCIOUS on you!

        • the Muse

ooooooooooooooooooooooooo thanks Jen! hearing mixed reviews ’bout ’em interested to try!

  • Christina

Hey Sis! I saw both the Fade In and Fade Out palettes are Ulta and was very tempted by the Fade Out palette since I love purples. Anyway, I am still trying to determine once and for all where Smashbox is made. I know they were bought by Estee Laude a few years ago, and I’m just not able to be confirm that the products are not made in China.

Besides that, when I did the math, Urban Decay palettes are still a far better value and pretty much my favorite brand.

    • the Muse

hey chicklet! Morning! I’ll look on the back of some of my smashbox palettes and let ya know. Urban Decay Palettes def have considerably more product in ’em!

  • JenJ

Nice! Not sure if I want to pick this up or Bobbi Brown’s new chocolate palette.

  • jenn

i think this is a great color offering for people who don’t have a lot of shadows but for me, some of these colors would be redundant 🙁 wear it for the rest of us who can’t muse!
