The Foundation Matrix Takes on NARS

NARS Radiant Cream Compact Foundation Fall 2013

Ya know for all your hard work you never really get the thanks and praise you deserve sometimes and I can’t really think of a better person who deserves that than Christine (Temptalia.com). Today she launched an innovative project, the likes of which you won’t find ANYWHERE on the Internet.

Have you met the Foundation Matrix the NARS edition?

NARS Radiant Cream Compact Foundation launched for the Fall 2013 season and your shade selection can be easily located using Christine’s new NARS Foundation Matrix. The science, man/woman power, time, and patience that goes into creating something as huge as this boggles the mind.

You can tell it your shade in a number of brands and it will pinpoint your perfect shade of NARS Radiant Cream Compact Foundation.

Even larger companies like Sephora aren’t utilizing technology like this and at such a young age Christine and her team have created something not only helpful but innovative as well.

Pretty nifty and truly beauty innovation at its best.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Very nice!

Interestingly, I got an email from Sephora this week advertising something similar: http://www.sephora.com/IQ/color/ It works basically the same way but gives you color matches in a selection of foundations.

I haven’t actually made a purchase based on their recommendation but I love this trend. 🙂

I tried it today actually! I was a little sad there was no match for NW25 but the whole project is simply amazing. I hope that the matrix keeps growing:)

OK so I want to love this. However, I tried it today and it gave six choices of foundation colors. Six! Maybe I did something wrong? I have many foundations that are a close match, but the one that is nearly a perfect match for my skin color is by Clarins, so I chose that one. Then I tried a couple other brands, and again I got four or five choices in the Nars. I guess you are supposed narrow down the best color based on the six options provided?

Sephora does have a color matrix technology. Color IQ assigns you a number OR you can search by product and shade. You can easily type in Nars Sheer Glo in Siberia and see corresponding shades in their other brands both in store and online. You can even apply filters by brand, texture, etc. Sephora.com/color-iq. You really don’t even need the pantone code to play! It’s a pretty cool resource!

I love the foundation matrix. It’s been so helpful to me! It’s worth noting that Temptalia’s matrix has been around for a awhile (well before Sephora’s Color IQ with Pantone). The NARS collab is a nifty new addition. Can’t wait to check my match in-store and see if it rings true!

I really appreciate how Christine saw a gap in the market for a comprehensive brand-to-brand color matching guide, and did something about it. She’s one of my beauty heroes, for sure!
