Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab Halloweenies 2013

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab Halloweenies 2013

I guess it must be Fall now that the official launch of Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab Halloweenies 2013 is here! Launched late last week this selection of Halloween and Fall inspired perfume oils is one of my favorite launches of the entire year. It was a little late coming this year since the BPAL gang was out a conning!

But it’s here now and that’s all a fangirl like me needs.

If you love Halloween I’m sure some of these lovely fragrance oils will be added to your cart.

Bpal Bottles

If you’ve never tried Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab Perfume Oils or BPAL as known by its fans you’re in for a treat. They have an entire catalog of hundreds and hundreds of scents inspired by a wide variety of wonderful things! Each year they put out a rather massive selection of Halloween inspired perfume oils. All of BPAL’s oils are housed in a 5ML alchemy glass bottle and are meant to be used in tiny dabs since they are concentrated fragrance oil and have a rather hard throw and linger.

They do quite a few seasonal collections for Christmas and even Valentine’s Day but my favorite is Halloween!

Here are some of the scents they have launched this year:

A World Where There Are Octobers
An armload of maple boughs and a swirl of autumn leaves.

All Souls 2013
An incense blend that invokes the higher qualities of mercy and compassion, mingled with the soft, sugared currant scent of offertory soul cakes.

Autumn Fancies
Dry grasses bathed in amber light, muted by gentle shadows.

Day of Skulls
White sandalwood, beeswax, and frankincense crowned by hydrangea, rose, and kantuta blossoms, dressed with tobacco, cocoa leaves and flowers from the sacred Cactus of the Four Winds.

Dark Pumpkin Mead
Thick, heady pumpkin mead sweetened with clover honey and a hint of maple.

Dia de Los Muertos 2013
Funeral bouquets, the candies, chocolates, foods and tobacco of the ofrenda, amaranth, sweet cactus blossom and desert cereus.

Flor de Muerto 2013
Flowers that surround Day of the Dead altars to guide the spirits to their offerings.

Ghosts in Love
White sandalwood, tobacco flower, lily of the valley, white carnation, and magnolia blossom with tea rose, labdanum, and oudh.

Goblin Market
Apples, lemons, oranges, melons, like honey to the throat, but poison in the blood.

Haunted Houses

Quiet, ineffective ghosts haunting the realm of mystery and night, stretching dusty hands back to homes and lifetimes unforgotten: pale gossamer musks swirling in thick, dense otherworldly vapours through cracks in dry wood and old, old stones.

The Hell Gate of Ireland 2013
Smoldering brimstone, bitter labdanum, clove, black musk, and copper-colored feathers.

John Barleycorn 2013
Barley, beer, blood, and whiskey.

Le Revenant 2013
A shroud of gardenia, narcissus, and sandalwood with ambrette seed, white cognac, muguet, davana, and white musk.

Mictecacihual 2013
Copal, precious woods, South American spices, agave nectar, cigar tobacco, and roses.

Ooky (yes my mind went here! Ew ookie cookie!)
This is the scent of lightly spiced pumpkin candies, decorated with thick marzipan, sweetened with buttercream, an decorated with a touch of lemon zest.

Samhain 2013
Truly the scent of autumn itself – damp woods, fir needle, and black patchouli with the gentlest touches of warm pumpkin, clove, nutmeg, allspice, sweet red apple and mullein.

September Midnight

A myrrh-darkened amber chypre sweetened by newly-ripened black pomegranate.

Theme in Yellow
Ghost songs and love to the harvest moon: fresh pumpkins warmed by candlelight and aglow with Halloween joy.

The Pumpkin Patch

Notes of pumpkin infused with popular BPAL fragrance scents.

The Pumpkin Patch scents include:

  • Alice in the Pumpkin Patch
  • Dorian in the Pumpkin Patch
  • Moroccan Pumpkin Patch
  • Samhain in the Pumpkin Patch
  • Sin in the Pumpkin Patch
  • Snakes in the Pumpkin Patch

Achluophobia
Fear of darkness. Oppressive, stifling, suffocating, blinding: black patchouli, tobacco absolute, opoponax, and inky black musk.

Noctiphovia
Fear of nighttime. The vast, endless canopy of the night sky, dotted with cold, harsh pinpoints of light under a bulging white moon.

Phasmopobia

Fear of ghosts. Whispers in the darkness and cold breath upon your neck: calla lilies, white sandalwood, snow rose, white amber, and iced wine.

Placophobia
Fear of tombstones. Jagged claws of crumbling stone thrusting through tear-soaked moss.

Samhainophobia
Fear of Halloween. Menacing Haitian vetiver, patchouli, and clove with a shock of bourbon geranium, grim oakmoss, and dread-inspiring balsams pierce the innocuous scent of autumn leaves.

I’ll have reviews of a few of my favorite oils soon! I dare do say that this year it saddens me to see my beloved Sugar Skull is not available but the sweeter its return next year I hope!

All of these fragrance oils are available for a limited time and can be found at www.blackphoenixalchemylab.com

I wait for Halloweenies every year, it is the birthday gift I give myself. I love BPAL. I Love pumpkin scents and halloween. It is hard for me to decide what to buy. The prices keep going up so I have to get more selective every year.

    • the Muse

hehe ash you a fall baby too? ;-D me too! I have a hard time being selective sometimes. I tend to want them all even when I know they won’t work for me!

      • Ash Evans

Yes I am my birthday is in October so I have always loved the fall. I love all things pumpkin and while I am BPAL blessed (only very few things don’t work on me one being dark chocolate) that hinders me because it mostly all works. I have a list that I edit and edit for days and then I place an order for my birthday. I really super want Dark Pumpkin Mead and Sin in the Pumpkin patch. I know there are decant circles where I could get all the imps but I am one of those bottles or nothing people. I think the imps can get messy and disorganized.

        • the Muse

I’m a fall baby as well 😀 I absolutely adore everything related to Harvest 😀 I agree! imps are a PITA to keep track of sometimes 🙁 plus I kinda like having the bottle with the art, etc….but sometimes I don’t necessarily want to indulge in something I might like and in that case the imps def help. too bad she doesn’t do le imps 🙁 would be major helpful!

          • Ash Evans

I love everything about it too, I get more excited then I should when Pumpkin spice comes back to Starbucks. I love the bottles with the art but I agree they should at least let you do little LE imp packs or something. I would take more risks and if I loved it I would totally haul another bottle. I love all the foodie scents so I really want Ooky I think I have it narrowed down to 6 but I have to cut it down to a bit less.

          • the Muse

ash totally agree a little imp package would be very welcome!

  • jenn f

ooo these sound terribly intriguing but its hard to know which ones to get. im not sure what a tombstone or jagged claws would smell like LOL

  • Jessica

I’m waiting to see if I made it into a decant circle, but for now the only definite bottle purchases are the Dorian and Snake Oil Pumpkin Patch scents. A lot of these scents aren’t gonna work on my skin, which is actually good because I just realized 90% of my BPAL collection is Weenies (and all because of the last couple times they were at NYCC hahahah), and I’ve been planning on exploring more of the other seasonal collections.

The Trading Post stuff may or may not ruin that for me though. aaaaaa can’t wait

    • the Muse

I’m waiting on decant circle too, I’m getting some bottles but others I just want to try a few as well so hoping for some imps. Livejournal decant circle for you? or forum? def do xmas because there are some promising scents in that release ;-D I can’t wait for TP stuff either, hoping for surprise halloween scents ;D

      • Jessica

I’m always too late to join whenever I come across a forum circle, haha. So I buy from LJ, but a lot of my fave decanters run circles on the forum as well.

Definitely planning on doing the Yules! I’ve got a grand total of 2 Xmas bottles in my collection lmao got a feeling that will change soon.

        • the Muse

lol I think I’m intentionally late so I can just haul big bottles ;-D ONLY TWO!? AH! I have so many crazy editions of Lick It lol!

  • Linda

It always makes me so happy when I see you posting about BPAL! I absolutely adore their oils (I’m about as obsessed with them as I am with makeup), but they get almost zero coverage on the major beauty blogs. So it’s lovely to see you covering them here! (Even though we have pretty different tastes in perfume~ I’m more of a floral-loving Lupercalia girl myself. 🙂 )

    • the Muse

Hey Linda! NICE to find a fellow fan 😀 I’ve been a collector for several years now and absolutely adore everything about the Lab 😀 I’m more foody sweet girl (as you prob know haha)…Lupercalia unfortunately isn’t for me, never found a single oil I liked from the launch but LORD one year I hauled a ton of them because they sounded so incredible hehe ;-D

  • Amy Amethyst

Hey, I have Achluophobia. The phobia, not the scent. lol Ghosts in Love, Goblin Market, Ooky, and Alice in the Pumpkin Patch appeal to me. Whenever you post about them I always mean to go buy one to try but then I forget!

    • the Muse

lol amy well not really lol sounds like a tough phobia to have 😀 Go go Go before they disappear 😀

      • Amy Amethyst

It was worse when I was younger. I just remember one time me and my sis were playing in her room and I don’t know if she got mad about something or what. But she stormed out the room and turned off the light and I think she shut the door. I just remember it was pitch black in there and me screaming for her to come turn on the light. Like I couldnt just go turn it on myself. Haha I don’t know what made me think about this. *flashback* 🙂

  • Michelle

I just wanted to say thank you for introducing me to this great perfumery! I am now collecting these little beauties (although in small increments).

Just joined a decant circle for some of these, like Ooky and Goblin Market. Hope they smell as great as I imagine them. 🙂

Bummed the sugary scents aren’t released this time around, I was really hoping to try Sugar Skull or Boo, as I arrived too late for last years release. 🙁 Ah well, always the sales pages to look thru – lol.

    • the Muse

yay michelle so happy to hear it. Yeah, this year the sugary scents are a bit lacking 🙁 Sugar Skull is very worth looking into swaps or Evil bay for imho!

  • Icequeen81

I just saved the promo picture into my pinterest love it.
for me I would love tho have this products the whole year long, i honestly cant say if the pefume oils can smell good sometimes u love the ingredients but the combination make the difference

  • Elissa

Hi, I was wondering if you could post some of your favorites and what type of scents you like. I went to the website but it is quite overwhelming and expensive! So, I’d just like some direction on where to start. I tried an 8 pack of samples from a similar company and hated them all! I definitely want to try some of these, I just need a starting point I guess.

      • Elissa

Great, so I picked six samples and a Mouse Circus. I’m hoping you will do a review on this year’s Halloween collection? The one from 2012 looked so amazing but I didn’t see anything nearly as yummy looking for this year but I’m considering Goblin Market. It’s just a lot to pay if I end up not liking them. I don’t know what a lot of the ingredients even smell like in most of them but your reviews are helpful. I love indie brands and I’m hoping I’ll want to stick with this company.

        • the Muse

I have reviews upcoming Elissa 🙂 for sure. You’ll love Mouse Circus! it’s very fun! what samples did you get? Goblin Market is on my list as well! I think you’ll be happy with them! they make some incredible fragrances! their LE seasonals are incredible 😀 I hope you like what you ordered!

          • Elissa

Which samples? Well, after I made a list, I went and ordered an additional six, so twelve samples in all along with Mouse Circus. I just did a mini haul from Tokyo-Milk, which has some great sweet food types of fragrances (and body lotions). http://www.tokyo-milk.com if you’re not familiar. Will be reviewing upon arrival. I do like the smell of cedar/pine/woodsy stuff so I hope some of these go that route and not dark and foul or super floral, lol: Manhattan, Antikythera Mechanism, Twinkle Twinkle Little Bat, Bayou, Undertow, Y’ha-Nthlei, Absinthe, Hairy Toad Lily, Eat Me, Eclipse, Poisoned Apple, Port-au-Prince. Total fragrance overload!

          • the Muse

I LOVE tokyo Milk 😀 fun haul! Enjoy 😀 there balms are HG for me 😀

  • Suzie

I am so excited, this is my first halloween order from the lab! I just went for bottles unsniffed (I mostly have a pretty good idea what I will like). I got Ghosts in love, Haunted Houses, Samhain and Theme in Yellow. Now I will patiently wait near the mailbox until they get here, haha!

I hope they release some sweeter scents with the second wave of Halloweenies (there is supposed to be more coming, according to the forums or the labs FB, can’t remember which.). Maybe Sugar Skull will come then?

    • the Muse

YAY suzie! enjoy and let me know what you think! I’m surprised they didn’t do more foody…typically halloween is loaded with ’em but at least we have the yules upcoming soon! really? i hadn’t heard that….? there’s more!? aside from the trading post they typically do one big launch…i’m amazed they’ll be more that’s unlike the lab!

      • Nekozawa

Yeah, I was surprised by the lack of foodie-ness myself! People on the forum keep mentioning “the second wave” of Weenies, so maybe we’ll get our beloved Sugar Skull and/or Boo then? Or maybe the Trading Post will have something comparable (plz, plz, plz!)? Honestly though, if there is in fact a second wave to come, I’m thinking it’ll be themed, like ‘Halloween at Misk U’ or some such.

I’m surprised to hear you went the decant circle route this time! You’re usually balls to the wall about bottle purchasing! XD

So… if I may ask, which is the scent you are most looking forward to trying this season? I’m most looking forward to Goblin Market I think, but All Souls (never tried any of the earlier ones) and Ooky are calling my name too.

        • the Muse

perhaps next full moon on the 18th Neko? but I doubt it’ll be a second round, it’s prob a trading post launch and a hunter moon oil! I WISH it was sugar skull! 🙂 MNmm anything Misk U related never agrees with me le sigh 🙁 It’s always so earthy. lol I am indeed 😀 I just did a few that I thought I’d test prior to committing to a full size! 😀 Don’t worry I’m sure full bottles are on the horizon! I am as well! Goblin Market is probably the one I am most curious about!!!!!!!! Ooky as well just because of the name 😀

  • MalinVaine

I ordered Samhain 2013 and then went over to the Trading Post and ordered a candle that smells like an old, creepy cemetery. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I like both, but I am sure I will.

      • MalinVaine

I received my BPAL Halloweenie order today. I purchased Samhain 2013 and 12 Imps. Samhain 2013 smells so good I want to smell like it for the rest of my life! Thanks Muse for introducing me to this great website–although it is getting to be a bit of a problem as I feel like I must smell them all.

  • Katie

I’m so sad about the Sugar Skull not being around this year! Your review made it sound so yummy, I was hoping to give it a try…I guess it wasn’t meant to be. *dramatic sigh*
This is my first time indulging in BPAL’s Halloween offerings, and I plan to make the most of it. I have my sights set on Ooky, Goblin Market, and Dark Pumpkin Mead. I also plan on springing for the Other Hot Chocolate from Coraline collection.
I know you love the sweet, yummy scents. Care to recommend any, Muse? =D

    • the Muse

sigh can’t understand what they were thinking Katie so sad 🙁 of course, I’d suggest checking their ebay and etsy accounts I’m sure something will pop up! most of my collection are LE scents as there aren’t many “foody” or sweet blends in the general catalog 🙁 I do suggest most of the Alice collection because many are foody or just awesome in general ;D

  • Iris

I’ve ordered the pumpkin versions of Sin, Dorian, and Snakes through a decant circle. I loved Snake Oil and got so many compliments when wearing it. I think the pumpkin will add a new “kick” to it. 🙂

    • the Muse

I love Dorian and Alice so def want those 😀 I think snake oil with pumpkin should be MIGHTY interesting let me know how it is Iris!

  • kellly

I, too, am a BPAL addict and have more than I care to admit. I’m struggling to cut my list due to budget issues, but there were quite a few “weenies” that I would love to have. I am big on fall scents, leaves, dirt, pumpkin (but without a ton of spice along with it), so there are plenty of things I’m wishing for with this release. These and the Yules are my most major buys of the year, just in time to totally wreck my Christmas budget!
