Kat Von D Ladybird True Romance Eyeshadow Palette 15

The Kat Von D Ladybird True Romance Eyeshadow Palette ($36) released several months ago so this is kinda a late review. But the palette makes an appearance in my Fall rotation so I decided to finally swatch it and give the Muse Approval as this is a stunning little shadow palette everyone must own.

Kat Von D Ladybird True Romance Eyeshadow Palette Holiday 2013

The Kat Von D Ladybird True Romance Eyeshadow Palette is the first all matte eyeshadow palette available in the True Romance Palette Collection. It comes in a new revamped plastic palette with a snap to close lid and a eight shadows plus a Autograph Pencil Eyeliner.

Far be to from me, self proclaimed naysayer of matte shadows everywhere, to pimp, promote, and even LOVE an all matte shadow palette but I honestly can say this is a palette you’ll want to own.

These shadows are packed with pigment and are essential shades for creating warm, sultry looks for Fall. They have a soft, buttery texture with a super saturated color pay off that blends easily, wears well, and looks incredible on eyelids.

Shades include:

  • Für Elise
  • Vespertine
  • Renholdër
  • Siouxsie-sioux
  • Unrequited
  • Harlow
  • Wölf
  • Cleopatra

As much as I love True Romance Palettes I do find some of the shades (or even most) are very frosty or sometimes they contain a bit too much shimmer/glitter so Ladybird is a refreshing change. These colors are packed with pigment and have an easy blend formula that applies with very minimal fuss and fall out plus no frost, no shimmer, and no sparkly mess just pure beautiful matte shades. I typically dislike mattes but these were so very easy to work with and didn’t feel dry or apply patchy and they wore very strong without losing their intensity as the day progressed.

If you love warmer shades and matte ones I’d say this is a must have.

I’ve been wearing it since the cooler Fall weather set in and doing some great autumn eyes with it!

Funny you should post this today – I am feeling like I want a matte palette! I was eyeing the Too Faced Matte palette, and the one from the Balm. Do you have experience with those? If so, do you think this Kat Von D one is the best? I am leaning towards this one!

    • the Muse

I like this one best because it has the nicer shade selection for my brown eyes 🙂

Sorry to but in here, but I bought…and returned the Too Faced Matte palette a couple of weeks ago. I was not impressed with it and just found the pigmentation to be very lacking. Once applied, all of the colors just kind of blended together as one. Ended up returning it and getting the Kat Von D foundation, powder and concealer instead, which I LOVE!

I have been wanting a matte palette too. I don’t love mattes either. I usually find them hard to blend and chalky. I really need more makeup like a hole in the head but I also am loathe to give up my VIB status…so I’m only $50 away…

  • Laura

I saw that palette a while ago and wanted it – now seeing the swatch of cleopatra – I’m sold.

Starting to make my VIB F & F sale list!

  • Katie

I own this palette and LOVE IT!!!! Of course, I own all of the Kat Von D palettes because they rock, but this one is very nice – basically everything you said 🙂

  • Rachel P

I also have this palette and love it to pieces!!! I use Vespertine almost every day!

  • kimkats

Bought this right after it came out, and it is SOLID!! Exquisite textures and colors – Kat needs to do more matte or satin shadow palettes! Me Likey Muchly!

  • evilyn1983

Bought this months ago and love it! I too collect all of her palettes (minus the ones with more than 2 cream shadows and the small quads), and love love love it! I am actually wearing all Kat Von D today (foundation, concealer and powder) along with this palette and her lipstick in Vampira….she can do no wrong!

  • Sara

Do want.. but between my recent Vice 2 purchase and hearing rumors about a Naked 3 (have you heard anything??), I gotta watch it with the eyeshadow palette purchases. Definitely going on my Sephora wishlist, though, and I might have to indulge during the VIB sale 🙂

I LOVE matte eyeshadows and may have to acquire this one, too. Do you know where it’s made? BTW I have the Too Faced Matte palette and love it — in fact, it was my first Too Faced purchase and made me a fan of the brand.

  • Christina D.

Thanks for the quick reply, my sista. I know that if you Approve this and you are not a matte fan, I’m gonna love it!

I really need to go on a no-buy.

    • the Muse

lol ;-D def def def it must mean a BIG YAY for purchase you know me and matte ;-D god a no buy during the Holidays? NAAAAAAAAAAAA wait until January 😀

  • Miranda

You know in these pictures I can actually see some resemblance between you and Kat! I think it’s in the eyes/cheeks! 🙂

  • Jen_m_sunshine

Hiya Muse! Thanks for this review…and welcome to the dark side…I mean matte side! I love mattes, my favorite and I own quite a few palettes/ singles of this kind. My faves for palettes are the stila in the know, thebalm meet matte nude and just discovered inglot. I saw this and fell in lust but am hesitant as may be too warm for me…but life’s short and i am an eye palette sister wh!@!
So who am I kidding? It will will somehow fall into my sephora basket during next trip!

    • the Muse

lol 😀 do you have cookies over here? 😀 hehe fall in eh? 😀 ya never know…it could just slip right in 😀

  • nami

hi muse …. first i love reading ur posts…. second u have made me fall in love with this palette . i was looking for a warm matte palette and here u r right when i am looking for it…. and ur eye look is gorgeous …. what colors u used … purple and grey look kind of glittery … is there any glitter or just the pics causing this effect….

    • the Muse

aw thank you nami! I’m happy to hear it 🙂 thank you very much! I used the orange shade, the brown, and the creamy bone beige. There isn’t any glitter or shimmer could be the flash from my camera that causes that “shimmery/shiny look”

  • Meg

I am a nut for Kat Von D’s line. Some might say obsessed. I literally have every palette minus one of the Art of Elysium ones that sold out before I could get my hands on it lol. And I can honestly say this is one of my favorites! It is absolutely perfect for fall!

  • Archie

Awesome review! I used my Ladybird just this morning, dusting it off from where it has sat since a few uses after purchase when I realized it wasn’t that I didn’t like this (awesome) pallette, just that summer looks were not really going to be it’s forte.

  • Christine

I absolutely adore Kats makeup line!!! I’m a huge fan of this pallete and use it almost everyday..The colors are perfect for Fall and they are so saturated..Very buttery feel to these shadows..I’m in love with this! I can’t wait to get her holiday sets as well.

  • Maggie

I keep going back and forth with this one ever since it released. Agreed that it’s super appropriate for fall but wanted to also try a Mehron matte palette. But even you love this even though you’re generally not a matte shadow fun. Sigh…what to do, what to do…

  • Lulubelle

I just purchased a week ago and I think it’s going to become a staple! This is actually my first Kat Von D palette, hope I don’t get addicted:-)

  • SandraJT

This is my first purchase from her line, and it won’t be my last. I was absolutely blown away by the pigmentation, texture, absence of fall out etc with this palette. It walks all over UD, Too Faced, theBalm, MAC, NARS amd every other brand I’ve purchased mattes from, other than NYX – which puys Out stellar matte shadows. And the amount of product you get for the price is incredible.

  • SandraJT

Forgot to mention, my palette is metal. Not plastic. Yet another reason to love it. Once I’m finished the shadows, I can use the case for other make-up odds & ends.

  • michele

I’ve been really wanting a matte palette and I’m torn between Kat Von D’s Ladybird and Stila’s In the Know palette.. which one is better?

  • francesca

Ohhh boy i love matte palettes! I honestly never look at Kat Von D products but I saw this on some beauty lovers youtube and decided to google some swatches. i am in love with this palette i feel, i got $20 off in December for VIB rouge and i think I’m gonna grab this up! I have TheBalms Meet Matte Nude, the Nude Tude palette, the Stila In the Know matte palette, i am in love with matte shadows but I feel like none of these incorporate more colors than just browns or creams and this one seems like it has a good color range. The other products are to die for and i truly recommend them all… I can even do reviews on my blog if anyone so wishes but I am on the hunt for those cranberry burgundy mauve colors and that first purply shadow looks beautiful!
