Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser got a release in Asia earlier this year and I suspect by Spring 2014 you’ll see it here in the US. The entire “baby” theme from Maybelline has grown here in the US thanks to the cult following the Baby Lips Lip Balm has attained so believe me should Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser be released in the US chances are it’ll be a smashing success.

And the formula lives up to that…!

Let me start off by saying I don’t like Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser however, it does get a Muse Approval. The product launched for around $8 or so USD in China a few months ago and spread out across Asia rapidly. When it reaches the US it will likely be around the same price or a little higher. It holds 0.74 oz of product per tube. 12ML or 0.4 oz of Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer is $10 bucks and Pore Eraser and it have virtually the same exact formula.

So the moral of the story is if you love Photo Finish Foundation Primer here’s your cheap dupe.

This is a clear shade of translucent primer which erases the appearance of pores and finer lines giving skin a more uniformed smoothness or a “baby face” softness. It does a fairly good job filling pores, making them look clearly less visible, and creating a matte finish on skin for foundation to adhere to. Since foundation will lay atop this primer it will extend the wear as it isn’t sinking into your skin, fading due to the oil in your skin, or oxidizing as it has a solid silicone base to adhere to that’s a layer between it and your skin. You wouldn’t paint a wall without first priming it and the same goes for makeup application on your face. It’ll likely keep skin matte free for around three to four hours but it really depends on how much oil your skin produces. It’s very light, powdery upon setting, and doesn’t pill (roll off in tiny peels and balls) upon application.

I dislike it because of the dimethicone in the ingredients. This doesn’t agree very well with my skin and this is loaded with it. It kinda makes me feel a bit itchy or as if a tiny dozen ants are marching under my skin. I’m ok with facial primers that contain silicones as I’ve developed some tolerance for them but it seems to vary from formula to formula for me and unfortunately Pore Eraser happens to be one of those formulas I don’t feel comfortable with.

Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser is basically an exact dupe of Smashbox’s very popular Photo Finish Primer so if this launches in the US it’ll be a fantastic budget pick for fans of that product. It’s also an excellent primer overall for the drugstore world as there aren’t many facial primers like this offered from drugstore brands.

I do Muse Approve it even though it didn’t work for me because the formula is quite luxurious for the price tag.

You can’t get it in the US as I mentioned already but it is readily available at Sasa.com for $11.50 should you wish to try it before it arrives on our shores.

    Great review as usual. Man, they seem to get everything cool makeupwise overseas! Its so funny, I have they exact feeling on my face today. My makeup is so uncomfortabke and I keep scratching. I just assumed I was fidgety but Ill pay nore attention now.

        Muse: what primers do you like? I seem to have the same problem as you do…

        It doesn’t help that SA’s at nearly every Sephora or counter gives me a raised eyebrow when I voice my complaint about primers (both for face and eyeshadow). What’s worse is that a formula that initially works for me won’t always stay that way. It’s like I’m making a gamble every time I reach for primer: will my skin tolerate it today?

    Goes to see how everyone’s skin is different, dimethicone is an ingredient in my nephews butt cream (for diaper rash) and in my hand lotion.

    I’ve tried both this and the Smashbox primer, and I must say that the Smashbox primer makes my makeup stay on longer. I don’t know, but the Maybelline primer seems to oxidize my makeup quickly.

    Kinda embarrassing but I have never tried an actual face primer other than a free sample I got from VS lol but it makes me look/feel greasy :/ so I really wanna try this one 🙂

    I would have totally bought this because of my Love and Obsession for Baby Lips. I do not have any problems with primers except finding certain primers that work better with certain foundations. I will give this a go when it comes to the states!!

    How does this compare to the Monistat anti chafing gel (if you’ve used it as a face primer)?

      Yes!! I’m so glad I’m not the only one who was wondering that. From my experience using the Monistat gel under makeup and from what I’ve read about Baby Skin, it seems like they work pretty similarly (not the most amazing primers on the market but definitely make foundation glide on smoothly).

    I ordered this on ebay a few weeks ago, and so far I’m enjoying it. I’ve never used a primer before and didn’t know what to expect. I was afraid that it would feel heavy on my face, but after I put it on i don’t notice it. I do wish I had waited to buy it in the US and saved myself the extra money.

    I usually go for primers with a more “lotion” type feel, some of my primers have cones listed low on the list… So I’m not really sure how my skin would react to this… Guess ill give it a shot.

    I really love how even though this doesn’t work for u personally, u still gave it approval for being a good product overall. U da best!

    I finally found someone who knows what it is like, feeling that million ants on the face, when dimethicone is applied. And yeah, it varies from formula to formula for me too!! No idea why. I have not tried this, but it sounds like we have the same kind of skin sensitivity, and this wouldn’t work for me too.

    I’ve had this for a few months and while I do like it, I don’t use it on its own. I put it on top of another primer and use it for more targeted areas that need more pore cover up. It’s a bit greasy for me but after I blot it it’s fine.

    I hate silicones, as well – they make my skin look great right after application, but after an hour I look like a frying pan… And my skin issues get worse 🙁

    I tend to dislike silicone primers for my oily skin, but the Smashbox Photo Finish primer isn’t bad. I would really love to try this out, and I think I may order this from Sasa.com! I may just turn it into a little haul time, anything else I should pick up while placing an order? ;]

    I live in Japan and I walked into the beauty store and saw this product. I wanted to buy it, but I said let me go home and check the reviews. I was surprised is wasnt in the US yet. I just had the Baby Lips shipped to me. I havent used it yet though. The primer was about �1350 (14.00 US) everything is expensive here. Sucks. I may give it a shot. I have heard NYX is really good too and inexpensive. I just cant see myself spending 25-35 on Smashbox. I am going to pick up the primer tomorrow. Great write up! I am new to ur site.

    Was hoping this was more like Benefit’s Porefessional, a mattifying balm, not a primer :/. Doesn’t Maybelline already have a primer in their line – Age Rewind, I think? Wonder if/how this differs and why they’d need another – this doesn’t seem marketed as a primer but is called a ‘pore eraser’. Well all Maybelline is 40% off at Rite Aid this week so maybe I’ll try it anyway!

    I purchased this last weekend at Target for $7.99 and let me say that in my opinion it is worth no more than that. I will be spending the $30 for Benefits for sure lol. It applied well and was smooth and seemed ok however when I put on my foundation (Revlons colorstay 24hrs) it caused a visible patchiness that carried on through my powder almost as if it hadn’t dried upon application.. which wasn’t so. Maybe the two don’t mix. Ill try it with my Kat Von D Lock-it foundation and both Makeup Forever foundations..

    Ahhh, I’m so glad this product is messing with other peoples skin! I’ve been using it for just over a week but I’ve broken out in rashes across my face. I have like red, bumpy areas where I applied the primer. This is the only new product I’ve used recently, so it must have been this, which is super annoying considering I loved it! Such a shame 🙁

    I picked this up as soon as it became available because I love benefit porefessional. So many reviews compared these two as the same. I completely disagree. It is identical to smashbox photo ready primer. I put the two side by side and the texture was the same. It made my face feel greasy.

    I must say I’ve had this for quite a while, and I liked it at first but the more I use it the more I notice its too much of a greasy feel for my skin. I put it on my chin, my cheek area under my eyes more towards the front of my face, and my nose but I try not too put too much on my nose. I always rub it in very well, and no matter how long I let it set and dry when I put my foundation on my nose area always slips after about an hour. I can just wipe it right off and it gets very patchy.
