Maybelline Clean Express Miracle Oil Cleansing Oil Review

Maybelline Clean Express Miracle Oil Cleansing Oil

Miracle indeed! I’m loving the Maybelline Clean Express Miracle Oil Cleansing Oil! This one you’ve got to try. I think cleansing oils are so misconceived as people assume they’ll make skin greasy or oily. Prior to trying a cleansing oil several years ago I had the same notion but please don’t be put off by such silliness. Cleansing Oils are wonderful and helpful aids to remove your makeup quickly and easily.

The Maybelline Clean Express Collection launched here in the US several months ago and it includes an eye makeup remover, cleansing wipes, and even a facial makeup remover but unfortunately the Maybelline Clean Express Miracle Oil Cleansing Oil is exclusive to Asia. Oh woe is me! Thankfully it is easy enough to locate across a wide variety of online shops but I’m hopeful for Spring 2014 that Maybelline might consider launching it here in the US as sadly our market is lacking a budget variety of cleansing oils!

Take a look!

Maybelline Clean Express Miracle Oil Cleansing Oil ($10.20 at Sasa.com) is a mineral oil based cleansing oil which contains an array of other oils as well such as jojoba, macadamia, corn, safflower, and moringa oils.

This has a soft, subtle floral scent which I’d liken to the scent of Charmin toilet paper. I dunno, Asian products love scenting stuff like toilet paper! Shrug! It’s very subtle thankfully and nothing as horrifyingly bad as Etude House Cloud Bubble Foam. Honestly, if you’re not looking for it you might not even notice the fragrance.

I tend to have issues with cleansing oils sometimes making my drier skin tight after use. The thing I adore about Maybelline Clean Express Miracle Oil Cleansing Oil is the fact it keeps my skin very soft and supple after use. I never feel like it has over stripped my skin or added any unnecessary dryness.

To use it you simply pump a few squirts into the palms of your hands and smooth it over your dry makeup applied face. Yes, dry face. Massage it around as much as possible. Now add a little water and the oil will begin to emulsify and go milky. I actually noticed it takes a fair bit of water to get it to emulsify which is unusual for a cleansing oil but this isn’t a bad thing, just merely worth a mention. Massage a bit more now rinse! Done. It’ll rinse clean away. It won’t leave your skin greasy or oily nor will it leave a film behind. It’s perfect for ALL skin types! Yes, even oily skin.

This did an excellent job removing my makeup and giving my skin a squeaky clean finish. Some folks like to double cleanse which I do if I have the time but it is completely unnecessary to follow up with another cleanser after using this.

I typically remove my eye makeup prior to using cleansing oil so I did take note this removed any excess mascara that my eye makeup remover may have left behind but I personally wouldn’t rely on this or any cleansing oil to completely remove ALL my eye makeup. I think using an eye makeup remover prior to cleansing is the smartest way to begin any cleansing regime.

I love this stuff. I just finished my second bottle recently and I have hopes at some point I’ll be able to get it at the local drugstore!

this looks good. I hope that we do get it here, because I cant spend that much on a product that would be less than 10 at the drugstore

  • Tammy

My favorite cleansing oils are by Boscia and Shiseido perfect oil. This maybelline cleansing oil does sound interesting…

    • the Muse

GOD I wish I could use Perfect Oil but it makes me so DRY 🙁 the foaming whip does the same damn thing 🙁

  • Jody

I’ve only tried Boscia, Shu Uemera ( about four of their formulas) and Origins cleansing oils. I keep going back to Boscia. It has the perfect combination of eye makeup removal, clean skin, and not too stripped feeling skin left behind. I love it. It has just the right thickness, too, so that it doesn’t go flinging out of my hand, like other thinner oils can. ( this may just be clutzy me when I’m so tired, I don’t know. Lol).
I also like that its slightly refreshing feeling.

I really like it, obviously. 🙂

      • Jody

Yep. Of course that doesn’t keep me from still trying new shiny ones.

Actually I should thank you. I never would have tried a cleansing oil until you convinced me a couple of years ago after reading your love of them. Now I can’t imagine not using cleansing oil. Eep!

        • the Muse

AW YAY! ;-D flattered to hear it ;D story of my life, find HG but finding it is half the fun so go out and look for a new one ;D

  • Amy Amethyst

I have to say a big YUCK to the mineral oil in this one. I do love oil cleansing tho! I just use straight up grapeseed oil and it makes a big difference in my skin. Also love how easily it takes off eye makeup.

    • charlotte

I agree, it’s the first ingredient too so this is basically baby oil mixed with corn oil (eew). I don’t understand why people buy these “oils” for skin or hair that are such junk, and pay two to five times as much as they would for a pure oil.

  • JoElla

I have only tried the Ulta cleansing oil, and after I used the sample I did buy it. If you like that one, they usually have bogo sales on it. Not sure where it falls in the cleansing oil ladder, but I love it.

I use mine in the shower (because I get a wee bit messy at the sink). I do like the idea of a drugstore version that would be easy to find.

    • the Muse

I didn’t even know Ulta had one! ha! gotta try that! in the shower!? that must be hard!

    • Maggie

Thank you for mentioning the Ulta one. Will have to check it out.

Not taking a chance on this Maybelline Cleansing Oil with its inclusion of linalool and fragrance–both of which can irritate skin. Also isopropyl myristrate can cause acne in some people. However, even with all of these strikes it should be okay for most: this is meant to be rinsed off immediately so it won’t make prolonged contact with the skin.

  • Sara

I use the DHC deep cleansing oil and so far it’s my favorite. I got a sample of the Dior cleansing oil but I was pretty disappointed, didn’t really do much for removing makeup unfortunately… But for $10 I will give this a try, especially if it comes to the states and I can find a coupon 🙂

  • Ana

Since L’Oreal bought shu uemura they sure have a reason for making a damn good cleansing oil. Does it say in the bottle if it substitutes double cleansing? because that’s the reason lazy me loooves the pink shu uemura oil, and let’s be real I will not go to trouble of doing double cleansing before going to bed, so I’m better of buying something that doesn’t require it 😛

  • Julie

Wow, for the price, this is a must-try! I am really dry and find that oils can dry me out (how does that make sense?!). I like DHC’s cleansing oil, but will definitely give this a go.

  • amber m

I was so excited until I saw this was exclusive to asia. Boo 🙁
I have been using the moisture white shiso cleansing oil from the body shop and I really like it but it would be nice to have better drug store alternatives.

  • Quinctia

I have…Holika Holika Soda Cleansing Oil, which is okay. It smells like Sprite!

I guess it’s nice to have around to switch up my routine now and then, but I don’t feel that I see much of a difference using a cleansing oil vs. a regular cleanser, and I think it takes me longer to use oil.

  • Diane

I currently use and love the Josie maran Argan cleansing oil. Would love to find a less expensive alternative and I almost was willing to buy until I saw mineral oil was the first ingredient. Boo- I find it clogs my pores! Do you happen to know any drugstore cleansing oil that’s decent and mineral oil free? I’m weird I use my cleansing oil in the morning and a regular cleanser at night. I find using it in morning leaves my skin soft and extends my self tan better than normal cleanser 2x a day =)

    • the Muse

i love her cleansing oil! great stuff. I really don’t have many recs for mineral oil free….most have some sort of mineral oil in them unless you’re rubbing plain old olive oil or argan oil into your face that’s about as free from mineral oil as you can get 😀

      • Nina

Actually most quality cleansing oils are mineral oil free. Even the MAC one which has lots of junk in it still is 100% mineral free.

  • mindy

If any of u ladies have issues with any ingredients in these oil brands i got an idea and concocted (i love to concoct) my own….took a bottle and added olive oil ( first cold pressed), jojoba, a little lavender, alittle orange, alittle lemon, voila…..these are essential oils, at health food store. Ya get enough to make a gazillion bottles forever…and can also use as a substitute for all the facial oils they are selling for sooooooooo much cash. It will take an initial investment of about $30 to $40 bucks. Most of the concoction should be the olive and jojoba, the others much lesser ammounts, you can experiment and its fun. U can throw in almond oil, argan etc too. Let me know if any of u try it, would love to hear…

  • Beda

Hi Muse! Thanks for this post.

I hope it launches in the US pretty soon, because I’m really interested. I do love my MAC Cleanse Off Oil and Marie Louise Cosmetics Cleansing Clear Gel (both are my go to makeup removers, the MLC one is the best for me but pretty $$, lol), but I don’t know much about drugstore oil cleansers.

Would like to try this one.

  • Pam

When I saw this post I thought wow, Maybelline is leading the drugstore brands to bring the idea of Asian cleansing oils here. I see I was wrong. It’s funny, I don’t think of Maybelline as making different products for other countries.

I’ve been using DHC for years (BTW, you can now you can get it at dermstore with 10% off if you add it to your favorites plus free shipping!) and though I’ve tried others like MAC’s, I keep coming back to DHC.

I’m glad you explained how to use it, because I think a lot of people use it on a wet face like they do with traditional cleansers, and they end up thinking it’s just greasy and messy.

I’ve never wanted to use it with my Clarisonic though, I’ll do a double cleanse using a traditional creamy cleanser after the cleansing oil when I want to use the Clarisonic. That’s the only time I do a double cleanse. I find that using the cleansing oil using the method you described (I apply one pump to my palm, rub palms together then massage onto dry face, then adding some water to emulsify and remove with a wet washcloth), I have no traces of makeup left on my face.

    • Hillarie

Pam, the way I see it, all the good Maybelline products are everywhere else! Haha

  • Bethany

I am almost out of my Deep Cleansing Oil from DHC. It is the only one I have ever tried and I love it but I would love a cheaper alternative.

    • mindy

Only one I’ve tried is DHC and I love it but it’s too expensive for me too.
      Would love a cheaper alternative…

  • Minh

I recently heard about oil cleansing to get rid of blackheads (rather than picking!) and also recently bought MAC cleanse off oil to remove eye makeup…but quickly found out it cleans the face very well, also!

Guess this is the DS dupe, I can’t shell out 30 bucks for makeup remover all the time 😛

  • cat

I don’t know if it counts as a cleansing oil, but I’ve become pretty attached to my MAC Cleanse Off. The only thing I dislike is that it can make my vision a little blurry for a minute or two. It seems like it will last forever since I don’t wear eye makeup most days. I’d probably still have most of the bottle if some hadn’t spilled out when I went on vacation.

  • Ashley

Always wanted to try a cleansing oil as I’ve heard many wonderful things, but I’m a cleansing oil virgin and I’m scared to put oil on my face.

  • JoElla

Okay gang, am I doing it wrong? I wash/condition my hair in the shower, and then I take a few pumps of the Ulta version and use it like a facial cleanser. If it gets too thick, I just add some more water. Rinse and then follow up with my regular cleanser.

It seems to work for me this way. Help a oil cleansing newbie!

    • the Muse

you’re def doing it wrong 🙂 facial oil is supposed to be used on a dry face full of makeup. Take two or three pumps into your hands, massage onto your face, add a drop of water to emulsify, massage some more, now rinse completely 🙂

  • heather

muse, is there any special reason why cleansing oil should first be applied to a dry face? i’ve just started experimenting with cleansing oils and i really like how it cuts right through my longwear foundation and eye makeup, but its SO hard to spread around my face while dry. instead i just lather it up in my hands before applying it to my face and it still works great!

    • the Muse

kinda defeats the purpose of how it works heather, adding a little water allows it to emulsify and break down makeup. If you’re applying it wet first you’re skipping the most important step of allowing it to break your makeup down….it’s like you’re just washing with water?! It shouldn’t be hard to spread around your face when dry, it’s an oily so it should slip and glide around easily….

  • Buckeye beauty

Have you ever tried the DHC cleansing oil??? Obssesedddddddd. It’s t olive oil based and miraculous. I don’t like the sound of mineral oil in this one. Sometimes I just use straight up coconut oil to take my makeup off!!!

  • Felicia

Hi Muse, this oil sound really interesting! I might pick it up in my next order from Sasa…. Just a question though if you have a minute to spare, does it sting your eyes? Thanks for the review 🙂

    • the Muse

hiya Felicia! nope, no issues with it stinging my eyes and very minimal cloudiness as well!
