Maybelline Plum-Setter Color Whisper Lipstick Review & Swatches

Maybelline Plum-Setter Color Whisper

Maybelline Plum-Setter Color Whisper Lipstick is one of several new, limited edition shades of Color Whisper Lipstick that popped up late this Summer in drugstores. I’m now seeing these displays everywhere which is a good thing because Maybelline Plum-Sette Color Whisper Lipstick is thee perfect vampy shade of purple for the Fall season!

P.S. I love you and I can’t wear purple lipstick anything…

But I like owning it and looking at and imagining all the comments I’ll get telling me how bad it looks 🙂

If you’re one of the lucky few out there who rocks a goth lip and funky shades of purple this sheerer shade will be great for you. And for those scared of purple? Try it anyway as it is sheer enough to be wearable without letting your inner goth out of the box too much.

The plummy shade is a lighter purple with fine silver sparkle. Sparkle is pretty new to the Color Whisper Lipstick range and many of these limited edition shades I’ve reviewed recently like Nude on Night Out and Coral Tease all have a shimmery finish. It’s rather novel as the permanent range doesn’t have any shimmery shades.

The color is pigmented but once applied it tends to show a bit of my natural lip color under it. I suggest applying a few layers to build the color up for the best color payoff. The formula is soft, moisturizing, and has a high sheen (even more of a glossiness than what you’d see from colors in the permanent collection). The sparkle added to the color gives a nice hint of of a shimmery finish.

Plum-Setter isn’t really my color but it’ll look gorgeous on many skin tones particularly for the darker skinned ladies!

It’s available now, for a limited time, at drugstores.

It doesn’t even look bad on you! I love the shade but I prefer to keep my lipsticks sparkle-less!

Muse! What on Earth are you talking about? That color looks simply stunning on you!

  • Deb

Muse, maybe this looks different in person on you and under different lighting conditions, but I think it is flattering on you in this look. Nude eye, pop of color on the cheeks. Not bad at all. I think it plays very nicely with your big dark brown eyes.

Muse (if I may call you that), that color is very becoming on you. Not sure why you don’t think cooler colors are good for you. As long as the product is decent, you often look lovely in all sorts of colors.

I actually think this color looks fantastic on you. You can definitely pull this off. Is the texture grittier due to the sparkles in it?

    • the Muse

thanks catnip! 🙂 no..fairly smooth…I really love the texture on color whispers, these new shimmery ones are just as nice 🙂

Ohhhhhh!!! I do love a gothy plummy shade! Great for Fall..I think it looks nice on you..I’m thinking I may have to pick this one up! And I agree with May, it does remind me of Clinique Black Honey..I don’t know if you said but what was the wear time for this?? It looks like it may leave a nice stain on lips after the fact..Thanks for the review! 😉

    • the Muse

my pleasure Christine…wear time is around three to four hours without eating or drinking 🙂 glad you enjoyed the review!

Muse, You look like a doll in the Plum-Setter and plum blush you’re wearing! First thing I noticed was your gorgeous big brown eyes, so it doesn’t take away from that but adds sparkle to them. The shimmer in the lip color makes you look fresh. Please wear this shade out and about! It looks wonderful on you.
