Urban Decay Black Market 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil Set Review & Swatches

Urban Decay Black Market 24 7 Glide On Eye Pencil Set

The Urban Decay Black Market 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil Set ($36) is a set of six eyeliners five of which are brand new, exclusive shades that Urban Decay is releasing with their Holiday 2013 Collection.

Let’s take a look!

Urban Decay Black Market 24 7 Glide On Eye Pencil Set Holiday 2013

The Urban Decay Black Market 24-7 Glide-On Eye Pencil Set is more about the sultry as hey, I think I always associate UD eyeliners with popping shades but this is a more traditional range of shades that will work great with smoky eyes. Each pencil is 0.03 oz in size versus Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencils normal size of 0.04 oz size.

The fact this contains five new shades out of the six included is very exciting. Sometimes this does induce panic as fans scramble to stock up on their favorite shades but I honestly don’t think it’s an issue as Urban Decay at some point does add exclusive shades to their general catalog in my experience. Earlier this year Urban Decay revamped their Glide-On Eyeliner Collection and it now includes a whooping 39 colors! Many of you junkies out there probably own all those shades already so it is nice that this set includes new colors that you might not already own. And for the new girl, what a perfect way to try out these gorgeously creamy pencils!

I’ve reviewed Urban Decay’s eyeliner formula time and time again and I’m sure it needs no introduction from me. These are so creamy and they wear long and strong on my drier eyes without fading or migrating. Some of these shades aren’t as pigmented as the normal Urban Decay range and some are even matte in finish and not as glossy looking which means you’ll have to build the shade up a little bit for the best color pay off. For me it’s a more “safer” selection of shades than Urban Decay typically releases. You’ll have to wait for Ocho Loco 2 (review upcoming) for a few more daring shades that the Black Market Set doesn’t touch on. I think the set will gain the attention of those who wear smoky eye looks a lot as some of these shades are essential for both colored and traditional smoky eyeshadow looks.

Shades:

  • West (dark brown pearl)
  • Desperation (deep taupe gray matte)
  • Black Market (charcoal black satin)
  • Riot (smoky gray matte with violet and fuchsia micro sparkle)
  • Apathy (metallic olive green shimmer)
  • Ink (deep navy blue satin)

Exclusive and new shades include West, Black Market, Riot, Apathy, and Ink.

I picked this up at Ulta last Friday, and while I’m not impressed with the easily dupeable colors (as in colors already offered by Urban Decay), I’m still keeping this set. You can never have too many UD pencils! (Well, you can, but LA LA LA! I CAN’T HEAR YOU!)

lol! I hear you! ;-D I didn’t think too many of the shades dupeable to be honest…! they are however, a bit more subtle pigmented, some even have a matte finish, I’m so used to the high glossiness of an UD Eyeliner that surprised me a little ;-D did you try out anything else from UD Holiday 2013 yet?

I didn’t dig in my stash, but Apathy, Riot, Ink & West all looked like colors I already own, but maybe I’ll go home and do some comparison swatches. I’m probably way off, and I have no room to talk because I am forever falling in love with a new blush, getting it home, introducing it to its new friends, and then discovering that I just had quintuplets. lol

Crap – and no, I didn’t pick anything else up. I only picked up the UD set because I saw it in Ulta’s ad. I really only hoard blushes and eyeliners.

IMHO, Ink and Riot are the only truly stellar standouts in this little set. I bought the LE UD eyeliner vault a few months back from Sephora and I got it out last night and swatched all of the colors and Apathy, Black Market, and West are really close to other colors in the vault. Close enough that I can live without them so even though I love Ink and Riot I think I will wait on this and hope that I can pick those two up some other way in the future. Although, if you pay the single pencil price for each of them, you’re paying more than the set anyway. Hmmm, decisions decisions…
