Urban Decay Vice 2 Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
The Urban Decay Vice 2 Eyeshadow Palette is a follow up to best selling Urban Decay Vice Palette launched last year. According to Urban Decay there were so many demands to bring back the Vice Palette that they decided to create the Urban Decay Vice 2 Eyeshadow Palette in its placed. This new eyeshadow palette gets an early Holiday 2013 launch and includes twenty new and exclusive shades that you’ve never seen before.
It’ll likely sell out fast so get those credit card at the ready when it makes it’s debut tomorrow (9/10).
The Urban Decay Vice 2 Eyeshadow Palette comes in an abstract orchid design that’s applied with a special process so no two palettes are the same. Nifty eh? They top the compact with gunmetal jeweled UD Icon which made such a statement on the original Vice Palette. The palette opens with a touch of the button. It has a slow, easy glide open which kinda makes the anticipation of seeing the shadows inside for the first time very exciting.
The palette is skinny and lightweight which means it stores really easily. As much as I love some of the Book of Shadow designs I admit they are bulky and aren’t easy to travel with. The Urban Decay Vice 2 Eyeshadow Palette is an ideal size for both storage and travel. It includes a very generously sized mirror as well. Urban Decay also includes a dual sided Good Karma Eyeshadow Brush and Crease Brush. Vice 2 is the same $59 price tag as the original Vice and includes twenty new, exclusive shades that are 0.03 oz in size each versus the regular size eyeshadows of 0.05 so the value is fairly good.
I think the shades in this palette are even more vibrant than the original Vice. There are some natural shades here but the palette seems, to me, to be broken down into three main categories which include smoky shades, natural, and vibrant colors. It’s wide range of shades that you can create bolder looks with, more subtle ones, or sultry looks. Urban Decay points out some shades that they are obsessed with in their press release which include Voodoo a very rich purple, Toxic (which I also happen to be obsessed with) that’s a really pretty metallic coppery pink, Prank which is a dark, intense blackened turquoise, and Smokeout a sultry taupey back for sultry, smoked out eyes.
The shadows are loaded with pigment, did you expect anything less from Urban Decay? Many do include micro shimmer or glitter of some kind but I think the fall out is considerably minimal when compared to other shadows with the same finish. Shellshock was one of the few shades I experienced fall out problems with. There are a few mattes here but for the most part shimmer, sparkle, and satin-y finishes dominate the palette.
Shades:
- Roach (deep copper brown shimmer)
- Twice Baked (rich brown satin with gold micro sparkle)
- Crave (deepest, darkest brown black matte)
- Perversion (blackest black matte)
- Deep End (bright metallic peacock shimmer)
- Mars (bright metallic green shimmer)
- Ultraviolet (bright blue violet shimmer)
- Tornado (dark eggplant pearl)
I imagine you’ll question whether you need this palette or not and I’d like to say yes as some of the colors here really do stand out and as a fan of Urban Decay the temptation of twenty new, exclusive shades is very exciting. I do think the palette is geared towards folks that love dramatic looks though. If you’re one for playing your eyes safe with natural, subtle shades I’m not sure Vice 2 would be for you. But those who go all out and push the envelope with their eye looks well needless to say Urban Decay Vice 2 is for all of you who crave the wicked.
I honestly didn’t go through every single Urban Decay Palette I own to compare shades or look for dupes. I’m not terribly good at recommending dupes. And in all honesty I simply don’t have the time to sit down and compare each palette to the other. Sorry about that…! I will say this particular palette does have a good deal of variety here and as I mentioned and many of the shades are ones I’d personally use. I only see about three colors that I might not make use of at some point and out of twenty that’s damn great. If you’re a Urban Decay fan I think purchasing the palette is a given and even if some shades might be similiar to colors you already own from the brand I think that slight variation of the shade might just tip you over into the “I need this palette in my life” zone. You have remember there are going to be a ton of Holiday palettes that pop into your life this year. Some inexpensive and some including even more shadows and products than what you see from Vice 2. However, I sometimes have to remind myself that the quality of Vice 2 exceeds many brands launching awesome holiday palettes. The shadows are just incredible here with crazy pigment and a smooth creamy texture which is quite different and unique for a powder eyeshadow formula. Truly Urban Decay excels at creating eyeshadow and they never skimp on the formula when they are making these palettes. I’ve run across some of my most favorite brands that create Holiday palettes and I end up getting them home and the eyeshadow inside is sometimes not quite as good as the single shades they offer. That never seems to be a problem with Urban Decay!

The Urban Decay Vice 2 Palette has a little bit of everything to create a wide variety of looks but it definitely caters to those who crave dramatic looks. Loads of pigment, a super velvety rich powder formula, and a range of colors makes it a most excellent and likely coveted Holiday 2013 Palette pick! Fan girls and guys are going to want to own it ASAP.
