Wet n Wild No Neutral Ground Color Icon Eyeshadow Medley Palette Review & Swatches

Wet n Wild No Neutral Ground Color Icon Eyeshadow Medley Palette 1

The Wet n Wild No Neutral Ground Color Icon Eyeshadow Medley Palette ($4.99) is one of three new limited edition Color Icon Eyeshadow Palettes that Wet n Wild is releasing for Holiday 2013 with the new In The Spotlight Collection.

I’ve tried the Color Icon Eyeshadow Medley Palettes before as Wet n Wild had released them during the Summer and I thought they were positively awful. Just really badly done and they smelled horrible too! Wet n Wild has released some incredible products in the last few years but recent releases have been very hit or miss and I felt like the Medley Palettes were a huge miss and just cheap makeup at its worst.

Needless to say I went into purchasing the Wet n Wild No Neutral Ground Color Icon Eyeshadow Medley Palette with great trepidation.

I relieved to say the Wet n Wild No Neutral Ground Color Icon Eyeshadow Medley Palette is a VAST improvement on the last round of Medley Palettes. Phew! Crisis averted.

The palette is set up with eight shades of color with the top row featuring shimmer overcoats that they suggest for the brow bone, the middle row containing a selection of pearl powders for your eyelids, and the bottom row a selection of matte eyeliners colors.

My issues with the original palettes was the overcoats were all shimmer no color, the palette had a terrible smell, the colors were mismatched and a bit crazy, and the overall quality of the shades was overwhelmingly too pigmented, garish even.

Wet n Wild had a vast turn around with this particular palette. The smell is gone, the shimmery overcoats have a subtle touch of pigment, the colors are all flattering and work well together, and the pigment is a touch less overwhelming but still has excellent color pay off.

No Neutral Ground is a selection of earthy shades in an arrangement of brown, green, purple and flattering accents of gold, creamy beige, and mauve. All the shades work together perfectly. My issue with the original palettes is they had a crazy mix of unusual colors and just didn’t work together! I had no such issues with these shades! They all worked in harmony to create a really lovely look or even two or three different looks if you like.

The main shadows have a good deal of pigment with a smooth, buttery texture that applies beautifully and blends out perfectly. The shimmery overcoats are subtly pigmented and add a very nice hint of sparkle to eyelids without overpowering a look with chunky glitter. I experienced no fall out with these shades either. I still find the eyeliner colors a little too pigmented but I’m a little klutzy using eyeliner anyway so that’s just a personal preference.

Wet n Wild No Neutral Ground FOTD

I will say I dislike the look of the palette. I like the original Color Icon Palettes in the six pan design. They are pretty basic and simple but aren’t as cheap looking as the Medley Palette. Something about the Medley Palette screams ugly to me.

If you’re a budget makeup babe and generally love Wet n Wild I’m positive you’re going to adore the Wet n Wild No Neutral Ground Color Icon Eyeshadow Medley Palette!

It’s available now at drugstores for a limited time.

I located mine at Harmons.

I never jumped on the bandwagon with the last go of these, but totally digging this years version.

Sadly lately, my area hasn’t gotten the really cool LE stuff. Hopefully we will get these.

they were horrible when they released this Summer 🙁 but these are far nicer! I hope you get ’em Jo!

I’m so disappointed that in our country isn’t most of foreign cosmetic brands, but this eyeshadow palette is amazing! No matter how it looks, but shades look really good 🙂

I agree– the palette is kinda ugly in itself but the colors look awesome. wet n wild is seriously my favorite drugstore eyeshadow brand. A lot of their colors are exact dupes-if not slightly better- than MAC shadows! Loooooove em

I can’t stand the layout of these palettes. They look like kids play makeup.
I guess it doesn’t matter, but I know I subconsciously didn’t pick one of these up for just that reason. This review is giving making me second guess myself.

I do have a prescription to pick up…

I want this just for the matte teal eyeliner! Ahhh the fun I could have with that.

I just brought All That Glitters. To give you a sense of my skin tone , I am a nc45 nw 50. Unfortunately the only real colors that show up on me is the dark brown and the black. As for the shimmers – well you mica always show up. I was disappointed and I almost returned it but I decided I will try to recycle them with some Maybelline C. Tattoo in the same color..

    Fingers crossed.
