E.L.F. Studio Prism Eyeshadow Review & Swatches

E.L.F. Studio Prism Eyeshadow 13

Maybe I like the E.L.F. Studio Prism Eyeshadow ($10) or maybe I don’t? I’m not sure! It’s interesting that much is true!

Here’s the deets on the newly launched E.L.F. Studio Prism Eyeshadow, check ’em out!

ELF Studio Prism Eyeshadow

The E.L.F. Studio Prism Eyeshadow is a new upscale-like palette that contains six shades of eyeshadow and is available in three shade selections. If you enjoy using Japanese Eyeshadows from brands like KATE, Majolica Majorca, etc…you might just fall in love with this formula!

I’d liken it to the Too Faced Sexy Palette however, the texture does run a bit looser.

This is a different eyeshadow for E.L.F. and a very new formula for the brand. These shadows are powder but have a creamy texture and feel. They are loosely packed so they flake up quite a bit when you’re dipping a sponge or brush into shades. Think of a freshly packed lose pigment shadow that you pressed and that pretty much sums of the texture. The flakiness reminds me of MAC pigments like Kitschmas but even chunkier.

They blend easily onto lids just as a cream shadow would and you can, if you like, apply with fingers and just smooth them over your lid and blend them out easily. They feel rather luxurious but they have a rather nasty odor which isn’t pleasant. They have a soft sparkle with a foiled effect on lids with fairly good pigmentation but they do suffer from major fall out so chunky pieces tend to fall on cheeks, below eyes, etc during application.

I have a love hate/relationship with the palette. The shadows are unique and different for E.L.F. and even lovely but the formula has a few quirks I imagine people won’t want to deal with. And at this price, well, you can kinda do yourself a solid and grab a lovely Japanese palette for the same price or less with a better formula….!

Interesting but they need a little work to gain my full approval.

You can grab it now at your local Target or online at www.eyeslipsface.com.

these are promising but at this price I’ll skip it until they get the formula figured out better. great review!

I bought these just this week, and found that if I apply them with my finger, which I tend to do with most shadows, they go on smoothly and I don’t get the flaking off under my eyes.

I really like that gold-colored one. Not sure I could wear the reddish ones b/c of my allergies but that gold one is such a rich color! Do I want to spend $10 for a pallette with only one color I know I would use…?

Glad I read your great review — was going to buy this palette in Naked but think I will pass. The formulation sounds too — almost frosty — for my liking.

As always, your reviews are wonderful!

You mentioned nasty odor.. Does it last or just initially? And I’m assuming no primer used w these swatches? Last quest 😉 you mentioned Japanese palettes… Can you point me in a direction on this? I LOVE any Tokidoki I got my hands on and I’m all for checking out these Japanese palettes briefly mentioned?… Thanks Muse! <3 Happy Turkey Day in advance!

Edit: you mentioned some brands on eyeshadow from Japan are these the brands you’re thinking of when you mentioned palettes too? (Hope that’s nit a dumb quest :P)

hi melody…I’m not really sniffing my lids lol…but I guess it disappears?! 🙂 You confused me a little…did you want tokidoki or Japanese info? Tokidoki is actually Italian not Japanese. I have reviews up here: https://www.musingsofamuse.com/category/mid-range-brands/tokidoki as for Japanese you can check the side bar on the right hand side and you’ll find a beauty abroad section which includes Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese, etc…brands…as for the brands that this palette reminds me of I’d say KATE and Majolica Majorca…many Japanese brands have that creamy hybrid formula that’s part powder/part powder. 🙂 Happy T-day! Almost here now 🙂
