Freeman Rose Brightening Facial Paper Mask

Freeman has a new collection of Feeling Beautiful Facial Paper Masks available one of which I tried a few weeks ago in the the Beautiful Rose Brightening formula.

Freeman Feeling Beautiful Rose Brightening Facial Paper Mask ($1.99) contains rose extract and a brightening Vitamin C that aids dull skin to look brighter. It also includes Lactic and Glycolic alpha hydroxy acids to exfoliate and reveal smoother skin with White Tea and Licorice antioxidants help reduce age spots for more even-toned skin.

Considering I have drier skin this sounded like the perfect mask for me!

Freeman is an great source of skincare products (particularly facial masks) that are excellent, inexpensive picks that produce great results. Some of my own favorites include the brilliant Charcoal & Black Sugar Facial Polishing Mask which is a cheaper dupe of MAC’s own Volcanic Ash Mask.

I haven’t had a ton of success with the Freeman Feeling Beautiful Facial Sheet Masks as of yet..I tried the Blue Agave which worked ok and also the Starfruit formula but that was a bit of a miss as it irritated my skin a bit. It’s highly unusual for anything to irritate me as my skin isn’t really sensitive in the least however, Freeman Feeling Beautiful Rose Brightening Facial Paper Mask also caused a bit of chaos when I tried it!

They really do mean paper mask….this is an unusual fiber they used to create the mask that’s thinner than I’m used to from Asian masks. It also has a slightly scratchy feel and isn’t as saturated as Asian Sheet Masks are.

I will say at under $2 this is a fantastic budget pick….! Freeman can easily corner the drugstore market here but just needs to improve on the formulas and fibers used to create the mask!

You can place the mask over your face for 10 to 20 minutes. It has cut outs for your eyes, mouth, and a slight slit for your nose. It has a wet feel and adheres easily to skin.

After wearing it for a few minutes I started to feel a little tingle but continued on for 20 minutes. After removing and pressing the essence into my skin by laying my palms against my face I felt an odd tickling sensation. This turned into an itchy feel quickly…it felt like I had some sort of allergic reaction to the mask and broke into an itchy rash feeling. Thankfully my skin didn’t break out or get red but it did itch for several minutes after wearing the mask.

Freeman Blue Agave Hydrating Facial Paper Mask 3

Freeman has the potential to create some good masks here but the formulas need work…! They aren’t giving me the results I get from Asian Sheet Masks and the odd allergic reactions that keep popping up for me are apparently shared by many after I read a few reviews.

If you do try it just be careful! Especially sensitive skin types.

These are available in drugstores now!

How weird! I’m sorry you had a reaction to this mask. I actually tried it and had no issues, and I have pretty sensitive skin. Sometimes there can be one particular ingredient that might irritate your skin and others find it completely innocuous. (In my case, there’s something in Garnier’s skincare products that causes an allergic reaction, but I can’t figure out what it is!) I do like these Freeman masks and appreciate their price point (I think they were $1.37 at my local Walmart store!). 🙂

no worries it happens 🙂 glad to hear it worked for sensitive skin though!!!!!!!!!!! at $1.37 that’s a steal! I think they need a little improvement on the formulas overall and the fiber they are using but they can REALLY snag the market if they make a few adjustments 😀

Awesome review! What you said was so true! I have super sensitive skin and when I tried their products my skin started getting red splotches (itchy). I had to stop. There was definitely an adverse reaction. Some people do well with their products. So that’s my own experience.

Hey muse, that sensation is normal with anything with acids. It should be a very low percentage of glycolic/lactic acid, but if you aren’t used to it it can give a tingly itchy sensation

Hi Hilary I’ve used skincare that contains acids before but never had such an intense itchy feeling.

Ascorbic acid or vitamin c could cause that, I love ascorbic acid for its brightening effect, and the itchiness and bumps go away after a day.

Hi Muse! This mask gave me that tingly feeling as well but it made my face really really red and it broke me out! I was rather upset because I do like Freeman masks. I guess I should stick to the Asian sheet masks instead.

I just tried this mask last night and I didn’t even leave it on for the full 5 to 10 minutes it required because it was stinging my forehead. I pulled the mask off and my entire face was so red. I have never had an allergic reaction to any of their products before. Was very freaked out by the reaction. I had to wash my face with another product from a different company. and then because the mask is so big it was in my hair so I had to wash my hair as well.

had the same problem with two of the three formulas April…! and I’m not sensitive at all 🙁 not sure what’s doing it!

  • It’s Gamayun

Hey Muse – my guess would be possibly the Red 40 (which wouldn’t have an equivalent in the Asian masks as far as I’m aware.) I knew someone who was so sensitive to red dyes that she had a reaction from knitting with red yarn!

The only other weirdo I see is the methylwhozazippo thingy. It could also be the fibre they make the mask out of (what is that stuff, fiberglass?! So scratchy!)

    • the Muse

interesting…! I never considered it might be the dye! 😀 It really is scratchy 🙁 very weird material it feels like tissue paper but kinda stronger?! I dunno weirdness!

Hey pretty lady! I tend to agree with It’s Gamayun, but for further info, metholisothiazolinone is a preservative that is typically used in ingredients that only come into contact with the skin for brief periods of time (i.e., face wash). It’s not often in anything that stays on the skin due to the fact that it’s potentially sensitizing. And I’m sure the scratchy fibers don’t help!
