Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Mascara

Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Mascara ($24) is the brand’s newest smoky mascara formula that they launched for the Fall 2013 season. As I recall the original Make Up For Ever Smoky Mascara didn’t really work for me so I was a little worried about the Smoky Extravagant Mascara but I kept hope alive for the greater good of makeup junkies everywhere who were still searching for that perfect dramatic mascara to complete their smoky eye looks!

Take a look see if this is it!

This precision mascara supposedly adds volume, length, and curl. It contains a 4D technology and a microdefining wax that envelopes lashes in ultrablack pigments for a dramatic look.

The cone shaped brush separates lashes but adds no real volume or even length for me. I find the matte black formula a touch drying. I think sometimes brand’s go overboard with the applicators they create and in this case that seems to be the issue with Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Mascara. For some reason it seems to pick up quite a good deal of mascara but the mascara is spread across such a large brush area so as you apply it it’s transferring very little to your lashes. This for me results in very mediocre results. I’m not seeing the longer lashes, I’m not seeing the volume, and I’m just not seeing the drama. Thankfully I had no issues with smudging, smearing, or flaking in this the mascara performed well as it stays exactly where you put it without smearing around your eyes. However, it’s the drama factor that didn’t do it for me.

For something called extravagant you’d think you’d get a bolder finish than this delivers.

It’s getting quite a good deal of raves on Sephora’s site but unfortunately it failed to work for me. I’d avoid it if you have shorter, stubbier lashes as the larger brush will prove challenging to work with…!

Tried it?

Do share your results with it!

i snagged this when it was a sephora 100 pt perk! i didn’t think it was anything special to write home about at first, until someone showed me some great ways to apply it. i really appreciate it after that! i like tightlining with it and getting decently thick and lush lashes! that said, would i purchase it? given that i have so many mascaras (hello GWPs and sets, etc) and it isn’t my HG (givenchy noir couture and lancome hypnose drama), my answer is no. that’s too bad it wasn’t the experience that you had wanted!
