Maybelline Plum Shimmer Blush Review & Swatches

Maybelline Plum Shimmer Blush

Maybelline Plum Shimmer Blush is one of three shades of limited edition shimmer blush released with the Maybelline Gilded in Gold Holiday 2013 Collection.

These are really sweet blushes that quite remind me of Chanel Les Tissages de Chanel (Tweed Effects) Blush.

Let’s take a look at Plum Shimmer!

Maybelline Plum Shimmer Blush has a tweed or houndstooth-like impression with a strong silvery shimmer on one side and gradient shading that goes from darker to light. The beautiful silver shimmer is located on the left hand side and runs straight through it with the right hand side being a lighter shade without any sparkle.

Each blush weights in at .09 oz (2.5g) in size and cost me $5.99 at Bed, Bath, and Beyond (I have not seen this collection at any other drugstores yet but I imagine it’ll be available shortly at other locations such as Walgreens, CVS, etc…).

The blush compact is quite small and I kinda wish they were as large as the L’Oreal Project Runway Blushes as at this size I find it a little hard to wriggle a larger, bushier brush into the pot.

Plum Shimmer, Bronze Tapestry, and Pink Weave

None the less, size aside, I think Plum Shimmer is quite delightful! One side is a deep dusky plum rose and the other is a lighter dusky plum. Both sides have a very soft, silky formula that blends easily and has fairly nice pigmentation. The silver sparkle is quite prominent (and is not an over spray as it runs through the blush) in the darker shade of blush and could be irritating to those who aren’t keen on chunky glitter in there face and blush products. Once applied I didn’t feel like you could see the sparkle on my face though. It’s difficult to avoid it unfortunately as even though the compact is split into two finishes and shades you’ll likely want to swirl your brush in both for the easiest application. Avoiding one to favor the other seems an impossible task due to the smaller size of the compact.

The blush applies flawlessly and I find the formula very silky. It wore quite well for me as well with a six-seven hour wear both times I used it.

Overall, I think Maybelline Plum Shimmer Blush is worth the pick up of you like sparkling shades of blush! Those who really dislike shimmer/sparkle might think this is overkill! Those who embrace it will likely love it.

So the silver glitter is definitely in the blush? To me it looked like (and I hoped) that it was an overspray.

I reread the review and still can’t figure out if the sliver glitter is through out the blush or just a spray on like sara was questioning.

Thanks, Muse, for such a comprehensive review! I would not know about the shading just by looking at it, and if I got it in person, I might think it’s just my imagination. Even though you say the silver shimmer runs throughout the blush, I still want this blush! I hope it comes here soon! It looks gorgeous on you Muse. Thanks for the detail and hard work you put into your great blog!

my pleasure rosanne! it’s hard to see it in photos but the shade goes from darker to light, very nice 😀 I ran my finger across it several times but didn’t actually chunky pieces off and the sparkle seemed to run right through, not the over spray I originally thought. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3!
