NYX Butter Gloss Review & Swatches

NYX Butter Gloss

Possibly one of the best and cheapest glosses on the market right now is the NYX Butter Gloss ($5) in my opinion. These beautifully flavored glosses are available in twelve shades…

But that’s part of my problem.

I think NYX Butter Gloss is possibly one of the nicest gloss formulas in the budget world at the moment. Literally the name translates to the formula as these have a buttery, creamy texture that hugs lips with a moisturizing finish that’s sure to please even the driest of dry lips.

The formula provides medium to sheer coverage depending on the shade you purchase. These melt on lips providing color, hydration, and a glossy shine. They have a tasty fruity sugar cookie-like flavor that isn’t overpowering and quite pleasant.

I think the gloss wears incredibly comfortable. It’s lightweight, isn’t sticky, but has a bit of tack to allow the glosses to wear quite strong at around four hours without fading, migrating, or drying out.

Now…my only issue with the gloss is the shades. Most of the shades are milky colors that aren’t quite to my liking as they look very mod on me. Some shades that do work for me are Cherry Pie (red) and Cherry Cheese Cake (orange) which have excellent, opaque color but aren’t pale, pastel, or nude like the other shades in the collection. If you’re fairer with less pigmented lips you’ll likely be able to wear all of these colors without an issue but those with medium or deeper skin tones and pigmented lips might find the shades are a little zombie-like on lips.

Sadness!

I wish I could wear ALL these shades because the formula is outstanding on these glosses.

I’d suggested the deeper shades for the best experience for those with pigmented lips!

Muse Approved.

Excellent formula, tasty, wears long, and cheap! It’s just the shade selection that fails to work for me here but aside from that NYX Butter Gloss is a luxuriously cheap treat for lips!

I completely agree with you on the shades being milky. I love everything about the formula but they make me look a little zombie-ish too. I still love ‘em!

Love these glosses. Though I only have crème brûlée right now, I want to get more later on. They smell so good and feel great!

I have the same issues. I love the formulas for many of the NYX products, but the shade selections are often awful for my skin tone. I’m Italian and Norwegian — not all that dark! — so I’m estimating only a small percentage of women find these shades wearable.

I really wish there were more shades ! They do smell amazing. I was using merunge recently but I’m not sure it looks good on me.

Those colors remind me of the first time I ever tried buying lip gloss. I had no idea how to pick so I chose two colors I thought would look nice. Results were terribly pastel and milky on my lips. At least they were some drugstore brand so I didn’t lose too much…

Never tried NYX glosses but I’ve heard good things about them. From your pics I see they have lovely colors, shame they are too milky.

I really wanted to love these, but it just isn’t happening! I have Peach Cobbler and it just looks streaky when I apply it. I put it away and then pick it back up every so often, hoping thing will be different, but alas, always the same. The best luck I have with it is to apply a very thin layer and kind of blend it out. Sad face :(

I own all colors, but two, and none if them are flavored. I personally dislike taste in my lip products and if others do and read your review, as is,they pass on these and they are really great glosses. Thank you.

I love these glosses. I owned creme brûlée and lost it. Sadness! I went and purchased taramisu which looks very similar on my lips just incase I ever found creme
Brûlée. I also own eclair. I love these glosses and I’m normally not a lip product person. I wish my ulta carried all the shades. I have my eye on apple strudel and the peaches and cream. I love my nudes colors haha.
