NYX Butter Lip Balm Review & Swatches

NYX Butter Lip Balm

Cheap thrills ahead my dearies with the new NYX Butter Lip Balm ($4) that just recently became available in eight shades. Love tinted lip balms?

Get these.

If you’re a Chapstick girl you’ll likely to love all over the new NYX Butter Lip Balm! These balm takes us back to our the olden days when collecting Bonnie Bell Balms by the box full was all the rage. Soft, with a thicker balmy texture they keep lips pleasantly hydrated with a hint of flavor and color.

NYX Butter Lip Balms

Warning…..you do have to like a heavier balm to get on board with these! If so you’ll adore NYX Butter Lip Balm! If not and you’re seeking a more lightweight, weightless balm these might not be for you. They add some fairly nice moisture to my lips and keep them soft and smooth. Some shades are more pigmented than other but overall they provide a sheerer slash of color with a subtle fruity flavor and fragrance! I like the slash of MLBB (my lips but better) tint they provide. They have a touch of sheen but no really glossiness or shine.

I’m chronically applying lip balm throughout the day because I’m lazy about reapplying my gloss and lipstick so reaching for a quick bit of balm is the perfect way for me to get some needed moisture and color to my lips.

Note: I only took a few photos with these on my lips because they are difficult to photograph and we all know I’m not a master photographer ha…! So just a few pics of some of the shades so you can get an idea how they look on lips. Hope it helps a little and sorry for the lack of photos!

Muse, I owe you big time for introducing me to NYX. Sometimes I just want to pick up something cheap and fun and get a million colors and not have regrets ($$) the next day and NYX is really good for that. The pigmentation is on par with much more expensive brands. I bought 3 of their liquid lipsticks the other day at Ulta and they are really good! Massively long wear time and 1/4 of the price of Stila.

awww awesome Linda 😀 and agreed so cheap and TONS of colors without feeling bad about indulging 😀 good for you!!!!!! enjoy 😀 cheap beauty thrills are the best!

Just as I was looking for swatches, your blog popped up! I don’t need ’em… but I want ’em.

  • Nida Moughal

I already am using NYX colored lip balm and I am not very impressed with the quality of it it just sits on the top of my lips =(

    • the Muse

oh nida 🙁 sorry to hear it…! thankfully didn’t experience that. have you tried warming up a bit by building the color and swiping across lips a few time to melt it down a bit.

  • Bethany

Hey Muse! These are calling my name! How do these compare to Burt’s Bees tinted lip balms? Are they more pigmented than those or about the same? Just wondering so I know whether to get them all or just a few…Thanks Muse!

  • Debster

Oh man, I was going to ask how they are compared to baby lips (I don’t care for baby lips) so this gives me an excuse to buy these. Those names make me hungry too!

    • the Muse

hey deb me either…>! yak! these are a heavier balm so if you like something a bit more moisturizing you’ll like them 😀

  • Traci

I definitely want to try these! I like these shades better than the Maybelline Baby Lips. Ulta has all lip balms buy one, get one half off starting on Sunday, so good time to try these.

  • Adrienne

I am all about balms right now and will have to get these. I purchased another budget friendly balm by LA Girl and they were really nice for less than $2.00 very moisturizing with a little color and pretty long lasting. I purchased mine at Rite-Aid not sure where else they are sold but I like them better than the Baby Lips and its just enough color. I think I’ll try this in the parfait. Thanks for the swatches. great job as usual.

    • the Muse

thanks adrienne 🙂 and you’re welcome! hadn’t heard about the LA girl ones gotta track those down now 😀

  • Simone

I have so many tinte balms, it’s ridiculous. I think I can add one more to my collection? Right? Lol

  • Christine Joy Luikuo

I’m gonna buy one of these once I finish up the Baby Lips that I bought months ago. I’m eyeing on Ladyfingers and Brownie. Thanks for the review, Miss Muse! =)

I got one of the nude shades (forget which one exactly) and absolutely hated the formula! In my opinion the balms had very little slip however they felt quite greasy…and I do not mean Vaseline greasy, I mean I-just-stuffed-my-face-with-leftover-turkey greasy. The dryness of the texture (and the greasiness, I suppose) could have been forgiven if the balm was moisturizing……but alas, it was not. Not in the least. And the color payoff was laughable. Wish I liked them as much as you did! 🙁

    • the Muse

sorry kat 🙁 that sounds awful! I didn’t get a greasy feel at all how odd…did you leave them in a warm place?!
