Edward Bess Platinum Concealer Review & Swatches

edward bess concealer

Edward Bess Platinum Concealer ($38) seemed to be my answer to a inexpensive version of Cle de Peau Beaute Concealer. I dunno why I thought this…Probably the swivel up tube design? Possibly Edward Bess’s name on the package? His hair? Who knows….

But I thought here’s a $38 concealer by Edward Bess that probably works just as well as Cle de Peau Beaute Concealer and at a fraction of the cost.

Take a look!

Um yeah, no, this isn’t anything like Cle de Peau Beaute Concealer.

I’m actually surprised as I expected a lot more from an Edward Bess concealer. This is a swivel up design and holds 0.15 oz of concealer and at $38 for a high end brand I’d consider this inexpensive for a concealer. However, I also expected excellence from it and I didn’t quite get that.

This has a drier texture but thankfully applies with a satin finish that does not crease into finer lines. There’s a bit of tugging involved when you first apply it and it needs a warm up to blend out well. The concealer just drags a bit during the application and the blending which under aging eyes, finely lined ones, or drier ones isn’t particularly great. The coverage is ok. It brightens well enough and conceals my minor darkness and puffiness but those with darker circles than my own will likely want something with more coverage. Wear time varies but I saw about five hours before it faded a bit and I looked like I needed a touch up.

Soft Beige

I actually expected a highly moisturizing, pigmented concealer from Edward Bess but unfortunately this doesn’t quite live up to what I wanted.

Anyone try it?

Do share!

It’s available now along with the entire Edward Bess Makeup Collection at Sephora and Sephora.com.

I purchased this item.

I decided a couple of years ago that I can’t live without the Cle de Peau concealer. I tried a Chanel concealer and a Nars concealer and both were big disappointments. I know the Cle de Peau is terribly expensive, but it does last forever and nothing works like it, nothing.

    • the Muse

ya know I kinda feel the same…it’s a BIT over hyped and needless to say expensive but outside of It Cosmetics Bye Bye Concealer it is probably one of my most used concealers!

  • Joy

As a fellow concealer junkie I share your disappointment! I was expecting a glowing review from you because, you know, Edward Bess. Sigh.

  • Deb

Hi Muse. I had the same experience as you….so disappointed. I also tried the eye primer and it was the same. Very dry and hard to blend out. Both of these products were getting raves across the blogs and I thought well, it’s Edward Bess; how can it not be great? I wouldn’t recommend this or the eye primer for dry or aging eyes.

    • the Muse

hey deb. I was of the mentality, it’s edward bess it is probably AMAZINGS! but yup same issue. If you have oily skin maybe it’ll be good? But as someone with dry skin and aging eyes/fine lines no way…! I won’t try the eye primer now either thanks! Sure hope the color makeup is better. Also did yours have an odd smell!?

Hey I know this post is older now but I wanted to put in my two cents. I do have oily skin and LOVE the concealer. The first one I ordered from a dept store a couple of years ago and it was great. I ordered another from Sephora a few months back and it smelled rancid!

  • Christina

I’ve tried this as well! I definitely felt the Cle had better coverage and melted into the skin more. Edward Bess’s concealer was a better match for me skintone wise, but I was extremely disappointed. I returned it! LOL!

    • the Muse

same here on the better match christina…I’m between shades with Cle but Edward Bess was spot on but formula meh!

  • plue

i adore edward bess blushes and lipsticks, but luckily your review came up before I managed to get 1 of his concealers.

it’s so disappointing to hear that the concealer is awesome, because you know, Edward Bess, how can things be not amazing? 😛

    • the Muse

exactly my thoughts little sis! I thought edward bess this has to be incredible but no 🙁 Missed ya around here 🙂 been a while since you commented!

      • plue

I’ve been reading all along, but just didn’t comment, been busy with work n life so I guess I just kinda dissappear lol!

n squee for doctor who! so sad Matt Smith is leaving 🙁

        • the Muse

hey there! I understand COMPLETELY! I’ve been so crazy and just never have a chance to breath sometimes! 🙂 Aw sadness I know 🙁 but no Doctor looks like he might just be awesome eh? 😀

          • plue

yes! he’s so geekily cute! I watched David Tennant but erm I just didn’t like him. he’s too weird for my taste, plus I hated Donna!

          • the Muse

he is indeed 😀 I liked ten and I dug Donna was kinda fun watching them bounce off each other 😀 very much looking forward to a change for once though!

  • plue

oops, typo error, i was saying it’s so disaapointing to hear that his concealer is far from awesome >.< my bad!

  • LINDARRAGNAR

Hey muse this is so funny because I just bought his concealer from allcosmeticswholsale . com For about 7.50$ because they were running a 30% off sale items. I have to say I a bit disappointed with this as well. It is so not creamy and it really smells like iron!

But the good news is since I bought it so cheap I can use it all over my face as foundation (like and e.l.f cover stick) which it works great for!!!

    • the Muse

STHU! OMG! lol! damn! 😀 it smells odd for me too! glad I’m not alone! absolutely true! for $7.50 I might even be inclined to rave it hahah!

      • LINDARRAGNAR

I think you should def check out that website! it has such great deals for us beauty addicts!!!!

Yeah I didn’t notice the smell. Then my twin pointed it out and now all I can smell is the concealer on my face! Even my foundation and Guerlain meteorites cant mask it!! 🙁

        • the Muse

hi linda, I actually shop there often and recommend it in my holiday gifting guides every year 🙂 oh nooo 🙁

  • Ame

I got sucked into the “it’s amazing” vortex too, though I also think CdP is crap, and I couldn’t return either fast enough. NO coverage from either product, NONE, and neither would stay put.

    • the Muse

aw sorry to hear it ame! trust bye bye concealer for me ;-D best stuff every and so concentrated!

  • lilo

LOL “His hair?” I’m sorry to hear the concealer is bleh. I have his quad royal in monte carlo and i looove that one
