Herbal Essences Naked Cleansing Conditioner Review

Herbal Essences Naked Cleansing Conditioner

Wen lovers rejoice the new Herbal Essences Naked Cleansing Conditioner ($6.99) is now available at drugstores! This budget friendly cleansing conditioner is sure to gain the attention of Wen fans and at a very nice price as well.

Take a peek!

Cleansing Conditioners are apparently gaining some momentum at the drugstores as earlier this year L’Oreal Evercurl Hydracharge Cleansing Conditioner.

And now Herbal Essences Naked Cleansing Conditioner is popping up! This is actually one of several new Herbal Essences Naked Haircare products that you’ll see for Spring 2014.

The Herbal Essences Naked Collection consists of shampoo, conditioner, and hair styling products that are formulated without parabens, colorants, and sulfate keeping the formula as “naked” as possible.

Herbal Essences Naked Cleansing Conditioner is a sulfate and parabenfree formula which works to cleanse and conditioner hair in one step. Simply apply three to four pumps to wet hair, comb through or leave in for 5-6 minutes, and rinse out. No need to use shampoo as it works to cleanse and conditioner your hair in a single step much like Wen’s popular cleansing conditioner.

It has that super fresh fruity floral scent that most Herbal Essences products has with a slight twist of mint.

I was actually pleasantly surprised how easily it detangled my hair without weighting it down. After use my hair was extremely manageable with very little tangles to fight through plus my hair was very soft and frizz-free! Not to mention it smelled amazing too!

I love Wen but dare I say this was just as good if not even a bit better than Wen!

Excellent product and an excellent price too!

Muse Approved.

Available now at drugstores.

Sweeet, it’s paraben and sulfate free, AND affordable. I can finally try cleansing conditioners. Sorry, WEN, but I have thick hair and go through products so very quickly.

  • KG

Yay – thanks for reviewing this! Going to the drugstore to buy this….right about now 😀

    • Rachel

I know this was well over a year ago, but how was your experience with this? I have oily hair and am considering using a cleansing conditioner because shampoo is so overly drying, but have some concerns that cleansing conditioner won’t do the job to get rid of all the oil that builds up on my scalp. I don’t use anything on my hair other than shampoo and conditioner. Do you have any advice?

      • Britni

I’ve purchased this conditioner twice and I liked it! It did help my hair get healthier. I also used it as a leave-in, like one would use Wen. I noticed it wouldn’t totally cleanse my hair, though. I would be able to get through 4 washes using the Herbal Essences Cleansing Conditioner, but by the 5th wash, I would have to use a clarifying shampoo & conditioner because my roots would be so greasy and thick. The only thing that is stopping me from using it again is the fact that I have bright “rihanna red” hair and I don’t want to use a clarifying shampoo at all. If I wasn’t red, I would continue to use.

  • C

Oooooo! I’ll keep my eyes peeled for this collection. What store did you find it in?

    • allison

I have red color in my hair. I found the only way to avoid fading was to use cleansing conditioner. I have used many brands including this one. Love it and yes,it is safe and great for color treated hair.

    • Isabella Muse

I don’t know unfortunately…It is gentle but not sure about color treated hair Laura. I don’t color my hair so I can’t speak from experience.

      • Michelle

I am pretty sure being paraben and sulfate free it would be fine for color treated hair. Any product my stylist has told me to use after she does my color are always paraben and sulfate free. Those are what she tells me to avoid

    • TheMeany

I actually saw one for color treated hair @ Walgreen’s! I bought this one, but a color treated option exists!

  • Hillarie

I’m very tempted to try this! I heard they released another cleansing conditioner from the Color Me Happy line as well

  • Jaclyn

I’m definitely trying this. Wen has always been too expensive, because I have really long hair. Thanks for the review!

  • Caroline

I’m always curious about products like this, but I’m never sure if they’ll be hydrating enough for my dry, curly hair. I guess I could just try it and see if I felt like I needed a separate conditioner afterward…! I do love Herbal Essences. Thanks for the heads-up!

  • Tanya

Yay! I’m so glad you gave it a Muse approval. I haven’t been able to find it yet, but I’ve been looking for it since I saw it in a magazine last week. I’ve never tried a cleansing conditioner, but it sounds like the exact type of item I’d need and like. Also, I love mint :).

  • LP

I was checking out this new line, and didn’t think about trying this one. Are these okay for oil hair? I’ve been washing my hair with bottled water- either cheap spring or distilled water (one wash) and then a vinegar rinse. It’s been my savior-my water is extremely hard. But now that the weather is dry, I’m a static-y mess. Too much conditioner, and I’m a limp-mess.

  • Joan

Glad to see other companies are jumping aboard. I had switched to Carols daughter Minoi, but not that happy. Can’t wait to try this. Wen products are too overpriced and he has cornered the market. Thanks Isabella 🙂

  • Britni

Do you think it’s just a 2 in 1 shampoo plus conditioner formula repackaged? I foresee a lot of companies doing that just like they repackaged tinted moisturizers to market them as BB or CC creams. I’ve been looking for a cleansing conditioner for my thick curly hair but don’t want to pay the Wen or Devacurl price, but I also don’t want a repackaged shampoo plus conditioner bottle.

    • Isabella Muse

I never tried the 2 in 1 but I assume it lathers? this doesn’t lather up it’s a cleansing conditioner like you’d buy from Wen.

    • laurie

That’s what I was wondering too – if it’s just a new name for an existing product. I would rather the old name, though – Shampoo plus Conditioner. This “Cleansing Conditioner” name strikes me as something that won’t really clean my hair. However, I just purchased the product as Walmart had it on sale. Haven’t tried it yet, but it does smell amazingly good.

  • Iris

I like how it’s “2-in-1”. I’ll be trying this and will look for it in my local stores!

  • swimnut

Id really like to try this instead of swimmers shampoo hope I can find it near me 🙂

  • Ariana

Oh man! Muse, I am a Wen girl through and through; it has worked WONDERS on my hair for over 4 years now. (I can’t get enough of their seasonal scents!) I have always been skeptical of copy-cat Wens, but I think I might have to give this a try, especially after you commented it might even be a BETTER product! The one thing I will forever love about Wen is that it is a cruelty-free brand, whereas Clairol is not. . . Still, I think it’s time I compare the two! Thanks for the review!

    • Isabella Muse

my pleasure Ariana! I adore WEN as well 🙂 you’re not alone! But this is actually REALLY nice! Let me know what you think if you try it!

  • Kim

Great review! I really like the idea of only having to use 3-4 pumps of product! I cannot wait to try this product — and I can’t wait to try the color me happy cleansing conditioner also, the rose scent of that one is drawing me in.

    • Isabella Muse

ugh I SO wish I can get on board with Happy Cleansing Conditioner but dislike the rose scent of those products 🙁

  • Kim

I’ve been looking for these the past couple of days — can’t find them yet! I know what you mean Muse, the rose scent will need to be fairly subtle, I do like a rose scent but not real strong. BTW, I love your site and thank you for all you do!

    • Isabella Muse

Happy Rose, no offense, always has that toilet paper scent to me! grrr! I wish I can get on board! I love rose scent just not the way Kose does it :-/ Try drugstore.com and walmart.com also dear!

  • Noël

I just found this today at target! It was 4.99 so I figured why not?! Wen costs so much, but like you I love it. I hope hope hope I can love it too. Thanks for the review muse!

    • Isabella Muse

my pleasure noel glad you picked it up do keep me posted I’d love to hear your thoughts after trying!

      • Noël

Works just as well as wen, but it smells very manly! It will take some getting used to.

  • jennifer

They have a color me happy cleansing conditioner safe for color treated hair

  • Susan

I was thinking about trying this out, but I’ll skip on it because of the dimethicone.

  • Cathy

Thanks for the review! I found it at my local Target (Southern California) for 4.99.

  • Mary

I’m confused, your review says, “Herbal Essences Naked Cleansing Conditioner is a sulfate and paraben formula…” I thought it was sulfate and paraben free. ?!?

  • bella

would you skip conditioner when using this? i’m sorry it probably sounds stupid asking this butt cleansing conditioners confuse me!

    • Kerry

I’d definitely skip conditioner in the shower after using this. It’s very creamy- the exact texture of a conditioner. It just somehow possesses magical powers that cleanse your hair as well as condition it! 😛

I do however, follow my same ritual once I’m out of the shower, i.e. using a detangler/leave in conditioner and following up with my heat protectant for blow drying. So if you have any rituals for after shower care then I’d definitely keep doing that!

  • helena

Just got both HE cleansing condishes and the Pantene one. They all have amazing fragrances. Tried Wen once and hated it. But I keep my shampoo in hand, use only a dab, then smother my hair in the condish. It produces a rich, buttery, thick froth that’s not lather but definitely not like a normal conditioner. I don’t know how my scalp will feel after a while. But I’m keeping these for the scents alone. LOVE the minty, tingly, and rosey-ness. I just want to know how these work. If there’s no detergent, how does it clean? Please advise, I’m curious.:)

  • Kerry

Finally picked this up at my local ShopRite which carries the entire Herbal Essence Naked line! I’m obsessed! It’s perfect for someone who doesn’t use a lot of styling product day to day but prefers fresh hair every day (like moi!) without overdrying out your hair by washing it everyday. I’ve found that it even lasts me over two days. It’s also super quick, you just put a few pumps of it in your hair at the beginning of your shower, wash your body, shave, etc. and then rinse it out! And it smells SO GOOD.

  • dtan0914

I’m on my last bottle of WEN from my bottle set from 2 holiday seasons ago, so it’s good that there’s a more affordable option for me to buy while waiting for the next holiday set!

  • Jane

You know how they say not to wash your hair everyday bc the shampoo strips your hair? Well, since the cleanser doesn’t do that, could you wash your hair everyday with this product?

  • Alicia

I use this as my conditioner. I still use shampoo with is because it makes my roots look greasy quickly. But with this I dont have to straighten my curly hair anymore. I love it!

  • Kalleigh

Isabella, I’m so glad I went out and bought this. I have forever wanted to buy Wen, due to hair loss due to cancer treatments. But with lost wages, traveling 4 1/2 hours one way for my treatments, and 5 teenagers, the price was not an option. I was hoping it would bed gentle and I was so excited by the end the result. I read everyone of your blogs and follow faithfully even though I don’t have access to half of the stuff. But I am so grateful for your honesty and detailed reviews that you have saved me a lot of money by being able to know how the products will work out. Again thank you so much and please don’t ever stop because I truly would bee lost without you!

    • Isabella Muse

aaw kalleigh you’re going to make me cry! thank you for such a beautiful comment. I’m so so glad this worked for you! I’m sorry about your hair loss! I hope you’re well on your way to recovery at this point hugs!!!!!!!! I’m so glad that some of my reviews have helped you and so flattered you spend time reading them thank YOU! 🙂 major hugs and well wishes to you and your family <3!

I use this product and LOVE IT! I get so many compliments on how soft and silky my hair feels, as well as the wonderful smell. I also love how easy it is to use.
