L’Oreal Pop Shades Colour Riche Balm Review & Swatches

L'Oreal Pop Shades Colour Riche Balms

L’Oreal Pop Shades Colour Riche Balm ($9.79 at Duane Reade) are a newly formulated L’Oreal Colour Riche Balm in four new, limited edition shades for Winter 2013. The original line of L’Oreal Colour Riche Balm runs sheerer but these new Pop Shades are supposed to be more pigmented. I was excited about this as I really liked the original formula. Yes, it is sheer but it is a nice balm overall and many of the shades have an MLBB (my lips but better) finish.

But honestly, the excitement stems from the fact they decided to add a bit more pigment here as the actual texture of the balms is wonderful so with a touch more color it tips them in the awesome sauce zone.

Take a look!

L'Oreal Pop Shades Colour Riche Balm

Revlon ruined me for all lip balms around when they launched their Colorburst Lip Balms but Maybelline popped up with Color Whisper and suddenly that was my obsession.

L’Oreal Colour Riche Balms launched around the same time that Revlon’s popular Lip Butter did in Spring 2011 and soon after lip butters were a trending at your local drugstore as every brand scrambled to get their own version up and out there.

L’Oreal Colour Riche Balm is a tinted balm, the keyword being tint as these aren’t as pigmented as Color Whispers or Revlon Lip Butters. However, that changes with these new L’Oreal Pop Shades Colour Riche Balm. The terrible shame? They are only available for a limited time. Boo! Hiss!

Shades Include:

  • Dragonfruit
  • Vineyard Peach
  • Lilac Sweetness
  • Ballet Show

Lilac Sweetness and Vineyard Peach

The texture isn’t dramatically different here but they feel a little lighter than the original formula and lack the balminess of the original. They also have a nice bit of shine to them once applied and a very easily glide formula that wears comfortably while hydrating lips and drenching it in very nice color. Granted color is sheerer but considerably more pigmented than the original formulation and much more opaque (my pictures below don’t do them justice as I applied a rather sheer layer as I was rushing the morning I took the photos sorry!)! They have a light rose flavor and scent. I actually purchased them originally for $5.79 each and was absolutely squealing when my best friend Jai handed me a bag with them inside and he had paid $9.79 each for them at Duane Reade recently (without him I actually wouldn’t have known they launched). OUCH on the price tag! OUCH! Blame Duane Reade though because shopping them else where I’m sure they’ll be considerably cheaper.

These still have a great MLBB (my lips but better) experience and the formula feels as luxurious as if you spent $20 versus $9 bucks on ’em!

Revlon Lip Butters are considerably more pigmented and Maybelline Baby Lips aren’t in the same category as all with these as those are a very basic tinted balm. L’Oreal Pop Shade formula is more fitting in with Color Whisper’s pigmented but with a thicker consistency.

L’Oreal Pop Shades Colour Riche Balm are worth the haul especially if you loved but just wanted a bit more color from them!

Likes (hates the price)! Too bad they are LE!

I have the two other colors- I ADORE dragonfruit, and ABHOR ballet show ( super chalky for me, like pepto bismol-ick!!!)

But dragon fruit is perfection and I have two back ups! Check it out, Miss muse!

my friend purchased ballet show for me and I was a little ohhhh no too pink 😀 that one might not be for me but I wish I had gotten dragon fruit too! He had it but they only had the one darn! 😀 I’ll have to hunt around! I surely will grab it if I find it thanks for the rec Corey!

I love the L’Oreal Balms, and it’s nice to hear you do too! They tend to get overshadowed by the competition. But, I don’t find the Lip Butters and Color Whispers to be moisturizing, and I feel perfectly comfortable throwing on a Balm without a mirror so that’s what stays in my purse for on the go. They offer a really nice shine, I think. Would love to get my hands on Dragon Fruit or Vineyard Peach!

    • the Muse

very much so erin! because they are a little less pigmented in the category they are in but they really are fab little finds 😀 def try these, I think you’ll love ’em 🙂

I got all of them except Ballet Show and am saving them to “open” on Christmas. I hated the Revlon lip butters, haven’t tried color whisper since I didn’t dig any of the shades but these are my obsession. More LE shades and a darker brownish shade pleeeeeease!

  • telle

  • meganlisa

Love these on you! Wasn’t really interested in the product but clicked through to see the photos and now I am. Really softly pretty; natural! Thanks!!! Now, if I can find them….

scored three of these at target last night for 70 cents a piece. they were on clearance plus i had $1 off coupons from l’oreal. glad i saw this post earlier in the day so i knew they were good! love them so far in dragonfruit, peach, & lilac. thanks muse!

I scored the same deal 2 nites ago. Got several backups of Dragonfruit and Vineyard Peach. Bought. 7 and paid $6 for all the haul. BTW these LE shades are direct dupes for colors in Loreal’s Carisse lipsticks.

      Dragonfruit = Blushing Sequins
      Vineyard Peach = Sunset Angora
      Ballet Show = Pink Cashmere
      Lilac Sweetness = Rose Taffeta

I love these balms so much more than Babylips or Lip Butters. The shades are much more WOC wearable (w/o extra prep or hassle) than my experience w/ the other two brands.

Oooh, I’d like to find these! The Lilac Sweetness looks great on you and I bet the Vineyard peach will, too. I bet we won’t be seeing them around here in my area until spring. You are so lucky to get all this stuff so quick and thanks for giving me the heads up that some new and awesome stuff will be coming out!

  • sjgs

I got all but Ballet Show from Target and am “saving” them for Christmas. These are my favorite lip product nowadays – I hated the Revlon Lip Butters and the Color Whisper didn’t have any shades that moved me, but I want about 8 zillion more shades of these!!! (Darker brown please!!)

  • mindless wiggles

when i saw this post i ran out to target and picked up the peach color and i am totally in love with it…i think it will be a great color for summer. however i find these are not as glossy or moisturizing feeling as the balms in the permanent lineup.
