MAC Huggable Lipcolour 80

Meet the new MAC Huggable Lipcolour Lipsticks! A selection of moisturizing lip balms with a gel base, pigmented color, shine, and up to six hours of wear according to MAC.

MAC Huggable Lipcolour will be available in twelve shades with a January 4, 2014 release date.

Take a peek!

MAC Huggable Lipcolour

MAC Huggable Lipcolour seems similar to products MAC has already released like Sheen Supreme Lipstick and So Supreme Lipstick however, I felt the formula was different.

These aren’t like any of the hybrid lipstick/balms we’ve been seeing lately either like Revlon Lip Butter. The formula is most comparable to CK One Color Shine Lipstick with a thicker formula that makes itself quite known on lips and a luminous shine. If you’re looking for weightless or lightweight these aren’t for you however, if you like a balm slash lipstick hybrid formula that has a slightly moisturizing texture you’ll be right at home.

At first I was disappointed because they call these an Asian inspired trend. Believe me, I know Asian makeup, and this formula isn’t anything that you can find on the Asian market and misrepresents the lightweight, super shiny subtle lipsticks that Japanese and Korean brands are well known for. Where the entire “Asian trend” comes from I haven’t a clue. MAC must be smoking the funny grass.

I was also disappointed because they were just SO heavy on my lips. After I got used to it I started feeling the love. It’s just the marketing makes it seem like you’re going in for a purchase of a shiny pigmented lightweight lipstick and when you do try it you’ll find it shocking how heavy it is. Saying it wears six hour is a stretch as well, I’d say you can get four out of these at best.

They are an incredibly pigmented lip balm producing opaque color on a single application in most cases.. They have a soft vanilla scent and flavor (the traditional MAC flavor/fragrance) with a little bit of a tug during application, there’s no easy glide here. Some of the shades to accentuate the natural lines of lips and if you have drier areas or flaky lips they will likely cling badly to those areas. They keep lips nicely hydrated through the wear.

I have my negatives and my positives with MAC Huggable Lipcolour and although this review contains more negative than positive I do urge you to try a few shades. The pigment, nice moisture, and luminous shine makes them a rather nice lipstick just don’t expect a lightweight balm here and def do not expect anything Asian related….! Hmmm!

I’m quite curious about these..liked the sheen supremes, but they were terribly drying after a month or so! Do these feel anything like the Bobbi Brown Creamy Lip colors or the Sheer Lip Colors?

    • Isabella Muse

naa not really appu much more heavier compared to bobbi’s formula, bb has a lighter texture these are very heavy and balmy.

  • Sara

These swatch quite lovely! Would you say they’re like a more pigmented version of the Maybelline Baby Lips? Given I personally feel those are a little heavy and apparent on the lips as well.

    • Isabella Muse

two formulas are vastly different Sara. I wouldn’t really compare Huggable and Baby Lips, it’s just two very different types of products.

You know what “Asian trend” I’m desperately hoping makes its way here? Those glosses that morph, depending on how many layers you apply; 1 layer=tint/stain, 2 layers=gloss, 3 layers=lipstick.

This trend NEEDS to get its ass over here, lol!

    • Isabella Muse

lol agreed ;D there are a SLEW of brands creating them at the moment so I imagine it’ll be a hard hit for Spring in Asia maybe we’ll see it next year!

  • Maggie

Ever since “Asian trend” was mentioned I knew I would have to read your take on these. Not giving these a try since I even have trouble with hydration in regards to the UD Revolution lipstick formula and lines showing.

Going back through your old Mac posts now due to a brand new obsession with their lipsticks and I just had to let you know you made me actually laugh out loud when you said they were smoking the funny grass! 🙂
