Magie Deco Cosme Decorte Makeup Coffret II Holiday 2013 Review & Swatches

The traditional Magie Deco Cosme Decorte Makeup Coffret II for Holiday 2013 launches earlier this month in Japan and features an affordable selection of Cosme Decorte products presented in a festive box for getting or gifting.

This set runs around $90 via a variety of retailers and this is quite a deal because typically Cosme Decorte Makeup is quite expensive purchasing single products so I find this is a nice way to grab some of their products without dropping a ton of cash.

Instead of improving upon the packaging the Magie Deco Cosme Decorte Makeup Coffret II Holiday 2013 takes a step back slightly. Originally they’ve always included the set in a very thin box or “coffret” but last year the set came in a beautiful tin! Finally an upgrade! But this year, it’s back to the same thinner box. Le sigh. These boxes are very delicate so I always get a little worried they’ll get ruined and won’t stand the test of time.

The box has a pop put Winter scene featuring a buck. As you can see below it’s quite pretty and elegant however, again a bit flimsy! This winter scene is carried through all of the packaging in the set and is featured on the gloss, powder, and eyeshadow palette.

The quad is the pièce de résistance in this set. It has a faux leather plushy cover, again featuring the Winter scene, done in a beautiful creamy white. Inside are four eyeshadows as well as two applicators. There’s a highlighting shade, sparkle overcoat, and two contrasting shades of brown. The palette manages to be both cool and warm as it has some crisp frosty shades to accent with and some warmer ones for lids and crease. The colors run a bit sheerer but build up very nicely. They have a soft, silky texture but do fade easily so eyeshadow primer will aid them in keeping their intensity and wear freshest.

You also get a pretty shade of dusky peachy pink gloss in the shade PK803. This is quite sheer with a thick plushy consistency that’s not tacky or sticky and wears for a good three hours. It has a very, very faint fruit flavor and scent that’s not very noticeable unless you’re looking for it. The color is quite sheer but still looks very MLBB (my lips but better) when applied.

My least favorite product was the face powder. First off it has a lovely Winter scene dusted on the top but sadly this disappears with a single swipe of the brush! Sadness! Underneath you’ll find a pretty dusky peachy pink blush that’s very delicately scented with floral notes. It is so very pretty but so terribly sheer. Applied it has virtually no color and acts more as a highlighter than a blush. It looks pigmented but unfortunately it isn’t. I was so terribly sad that it didn’t add a bit of color to my face. In my image below I applied it on top of NARS Orgasm to get more color to my cheeks than it provided. They also provide a small kabuki for application of the powder. The kabuki’s bristles are quite soft and shed-free!

Overall, the set is very pretty but has a few disappointing aspects compared to years past. But I must admit I still adore it as the Cosme Decorte Set is typically my favorite Japanese Coffret of the Holiday season! It even trumps the Jill Stuart one for me. I think you can see why as the packaging is simply stunning.
