Pixi Glow Tonic Review

Pixi Glow Tonic Beauty Elixir Toner

It’s like the mother ship has landed now that Pixi Glow Tonic Beauty Elixir Toner ($29) is available here in the US. As a toner and facial mist junkie I was excited about Pixi Glow Tonic as much as the next person. However, I was unable to get my hands on it this past Summer when I went to London as it was sold out in store and has been selling out since the release.

It seemed hopeless trying to get my hands on this very popular product but just this past month Pixi Glow Tonic has become available within the US.

THANK god!

Did it restore my glow? Did it exfoliate it my skin? Did it do all the things that everyone across the UK has been raving about?

Let’s see!

I recently ordered two bottles of Pixi Glow Tonic for myself but prior to that I had received a press sample so I’ve been using that for two weeks, twice a day. It’s the first step in my skincare regime every morning and the second step, after washing my face, in the evening.

This comes in a 8.5 oz bottle so you might want to grab two bottles when shopping it as that 8.5 oz will likely go fast used daily. I wish it came in the pump style bottle that the UK has but this comes in a tip to pour bottle with a tiny spout for us US users.

The rose gold liquid is awful pretty but I’m not terribly keen on the scent of the product which is a mature rose fragrance that kinda reminds me of Kose Happy Bath Day products.

Pixi created this with zero alcohol and absolutely no oil. Too many toners have a ton of alcohol in them which creates drier skin and strips terribly. This contains none! Ingredients include Glycolic Acid (5%), Ginseng, Fructose, Witch Hazel, Aloe Vera and Horse Chestnut Extracts.

These ingredients are excellent for normal to dry skin and aging skin to help tone, firm, tighten, and exfoliate skin gently for a brighter appearance. Glycolic Acid works to remove dead skin cells and also to help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots.

To use it simply pour a tiny bit onto a cotton pad and swipe it all over your face. Following up with your serums, moisturizers, and other lotions and potions (make sure you use SPF as well as the AHA will make your skin more sensitive to sunlight).

I’ve heard people liken this to the legendary P50 Balancing Exfoliater but I can’t compare the two as I’ve never used P50 myself.

I was worried at first that it might make my skin drier as a majority of the reviews I read from UK Bloggers the product was tested on younger skin with oily, blemish prone issues. I have drier skin that isn’t prone to breakouts. People have really been raving the fact that it really helped with their acne and break outs so I convinced myself it would likely be drying on my skin somehow.

I was pleasantly surprised that the first use my skin felt nicely hydrated and it didn’t strip my skin. It didn’t break me out (rarely do I break out though so take that into consideration) either. I actually exfoliate once a week using a facial scrub but after the first week of using this I didn’t feel the need to do my end of the week scrub. My skin was much more smoother! My drier, patchy areas softer and more refined. After week two my skin wasn’t glowing and I didn’t feel like it restored my youthful glow but my moisturizer and foundation were applying easier and weren’t sitting on top of my dry skin! My moisturizer was absorbed easily and my foundation was looking fresher and wasn’t caking up on my drier, flaker areas like around my cheeks!

Some folks had expressed they had a nice glow after use but again that didn’t really happen for me. My skin still looks rather dull but isn’t as dry as it once was. I believe with continued use I’ll see even better results! Other uses said that their skin stopped breaking out and pores was clear as well after using for a longer period. I have smaller pores so they aren’t congested or blocked so I can’t say if this whisked away any gunk in my pores. For me it was all about the exfoliation the product offered as I can visibly see and feel how much more softer and smoother my skin is. That makes this toner priceless as I suffer from a good deal of dryness in the Winter!

Given time I hope it’ll lighten the smaller dark spots I have on my lower jaw line and perhaps restore glow to my lackluster skin but as of now it does a beautiful job whisking away dryness without stripping my skin.

Don’t doubt this one for all skin types as it seems to be a hit with everyone right now and with a mere two weeks of use under my belt I saw some very nice results with it.

This one is becoming part of my daily skincare regime.

Very happy I purchased two more bottles.

Do grab some!

Seeing the top 3 ingredients are simply water, witch hazel, & aloe, I can’t see paying nearly $30 for this, when a $5 bottle of witch hazel would likely have the same end result. Plus, it would’t have all the scary ingredients listed after…

  • Mary

I am waiting for my bottle to be delivered in the next few days, can’t wait! I’m happy to hear it works well for acne prone skin as I’ve been having problems with that lately. Thanks for the review! 🙂

  • melissa

Thank you for the review I’ve been looking for a U.S. review on it. I’m not sure I want to spend that much on a toner. I use a similar one by glycolic brand and it’s mostly alcohol and glycolic acid but this just sounds so darn nice.. I’m tempted LOL.

  • Melody

Yay I was so waiting to see ur review on this! Just in time I was about to place an order with Pixi thanks! I have the same skin issues as you so that’s great to hear!

    • Lorna Joven

No, it’s not in Target yet as of this writing but it will be sometime this March, as per Pixi rep.

  • Sarah

Muse, will you share the rest of your skincare regimen–just a quick list? My skin is reaching lizard-like proportions. Even with argan oil (morning and night!) it is a flaky mess.

    • Isabella Muse

it’s always rotating to be honest sarah but nightly it’s sheet mask, hydrating facial mist, philosophy miracle worker pads, miracle worker dark spot brightener, josie maran argan oil treatment moisturizer, miracle worker moisturizer, miracle worker eye cream.

    • Elizabeth

Because you need to exfoliate regularly. Use a toner with glycolic acid that will help take the dry skin away. Then use.your argan oil. It certainly worked for me. Hope it helps.

  • kimkats

This sounds good! Do you know if it will ever be sold at Target, along with the Pixi makeup? There used to be an *awesome* glycolic toner from the Color Me Beautiful line that used to be sold years and years ago at Penney’s…. It ROCKED, pure and simple, and so, of course, they stopped making it. Been looking for a good glycolic toner ever since, and this may be it!

Thanks for the review my dear Muse and Happy New Year to you! I look forward to another year of Muse-ness from you! 🙂

    Kim

    • Isabella Muse

not sure kim! I hope so as it would make picking it up far easier! my pleasure miss let me know if you try it! and to YOU! sorry for the delayed reply but happy new year hehe muse-ness eh? plenty of that upcoming 😀

    • Isabella Muse

hi karen I use Peter Thomas Roth Laser-Free Retexturizer Exfoliating Scrub weekly 🙂

      • Karen

I have sensitive skin. Is this harsh on the skin?

I love your blog and your reviews. They really help me decide whether to try a product or not 🙂

        • Isabella Muse

it’s hard to say karen…I don’t have sensitive skin so unsure how sensitive skin would react. Give it a few, a reader might be able to reply and be of more help that does have sensitive skin 🙂 thanks so much I’m so glad to hear it! Wish I could be of more help with this one…!

        • Elizabeth

I have very sensitive skin and I use Recherche Biologique and love what has done for my skin. they make a mild version of P50W that is for sensitive skin. I use it morning and night and I’m have wonderful results. I hear about Pixi often but am putting it off until I’ve used my current tonic up. Good luck.

  • JoElla

I was kinda hoping you would hate this.. now I want it HA!

Happy New Year’s my friend, be safe, and have fun!

  • Abryda

I don’t know Muse $29.99 seems a bit steep for an 8.5 oz bottle of toner. I’m not one to breakout either & always stayed away from toners due to the drying sensation however I’ve had equally great results with the Thayers Alcohol-Free Lavender Witch Hazel w/Aloe Vera formula from the Vitamin Shoppe and for a fraction of the price at $9.99 for a 12oz bottle. It is extremely moisturizing, gentle & just soothes the skin without tightening leaving my face & neck area feeling so clean and soft. It also comes in a Rose scent but the Lavender is just so relaxing & pleasant. Thanks for your review, love your blog may you have wonderful & prosperous New Year!!!!

    • Isabella Muse

hey there I love thayers it’s lovely stuff 🙂 and great budget pick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! aw thank YOU so MUCH dear and a happiest one to you full of health and success!

  • Phyrra

You’ve intrigued me enough that I’m going to keep an eye out for this to pick it up.

  • stef b

so glad you like it, I just got mine today and i’m so excited to try it for the first time!

  • Sylirael

I’ll be honest, I’m usually too lazy to use a separate toner 😛 There’s such a dizzying variety that I get put off the expense of trying them out, and just try to find a cleanser that leaves my skin clean but not ‘squeaky’.

    Someday…

    • Elizabeth

What I motivates me to care for my face is when I’m using a product where I notice changes for the better. If it doesn’t make a change it gets put in the back of the cabinet. Results are a great motivator.

  • Dolce

This sounds like a fantastic product for my super dry currently-undergoing-Accutane-treatment skin. I love that it has no oil or alcohol, I’ll have to grab myself a bottle!

By the way, Isabella, you are such an inspiration. You’ve finally pushed me to come out of lurking and start my own blog! Yay 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

hi dolce sorry for the delayed reply! aw thank YOU! very flattered! good luck on blogging! I’ll go and visit in a sec ;D

  • Bisma

Hi Muse! Huge fan of your blog! I was wondering if this product caused your skin to dry up and burn when you put other products on after using it? I have skin similar to yours- normal, not sensitive and not acne prone- and this toner caused some burning and some peeling! Not sure if its an allergic reaction or just my skin getting used to the product? Thanks in advance!

    • Isabella Muse

hi bisma best stop using it as it shouldn’t be causing that sort of issue. I didn’t have that problem, a little tingle first time using but not burning/peeling! I’d personally stop using the product and return it!!!!!

      • Bisma

Thank you for responding! The day after I wrote to you the burning/ peeling went away- by chance I used clay mask and that helped get rid of the dry patches the toner was clinging to, and ever since then it’s been smooth sailing.

        • Isabella Muse

thank goodness! Happy to hear it bisma! nothing like a day of skin freak out right?

  • Ashley

I was looking forward to trying this until pixi messed me around; they took my money before the product was in stock and after 3 weeks I still hadn’t heard anything back from them so I had to contact PayPal to cancel the transaction 🙁
Looks like it’ll be sticking to aveda and clarins in the future

  • Chris

If I am using Paula’s Choice AHA and/or BHA products already, would using this be redundant?

    • Isabella Muse

it would probably be a little redundant unless you just want to soften skin with a toner prior to applying other skincare!

  • KG

    Hi Muse,

I just started reading about the liquid/chemical exfoliators and of course everyone is raving about this toner. Now that it’s been longer,do you see a difference on your skin? I am hesitant to shell the $ on this product if it isn’t giving you results – my skin is much like yours – dry/dull. I think I dont want to spend the dollars on the shipping, hehe. Please let me know!

    • deya

      Try a dupe instead?

Thayers Alcohol-Free Lavender Witch Hazel w/Aloe Vera formula from the Vitamin Shoppe and for a fraction of the price at $9.99 for a 12oz bottle

  • Eizhowa

First of all, this products smells so incredibly deliciously good! I brought it with me in my bag today to make my family smell it. It smells so good it should be edible. It needs to be made into a perfume asap.

Secondly, when I started using glycolic acid, it took weeks before my skin began to glow. Dermatologists recommend waiting 6 weeks before you judge a product, so I think patience is required when you start to acid tone. The toner is not a harsh acid peel, but a more gentle gradual process.

If anyone is interested, I also got a really good glow from using the First Aid beauty pads. They also contain glycolic acid:)

  • Nat

OMG Muse, I know I’m bumping a super old post but I had to tell you I finally got this stuff. A friend at work was in the UK and I asked her to bring back a few bottles. I am in love! I love the smell, my skin looks great, and is less dry too! I really noticed a difference in the texture of my skin, though – it is sooooo smooth it’s cray-cray. I’m gonna have to find a place to pick up more next time I’m in the states! Have you noticed it in stores, or do you still order yours direct from Pixi? 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

yay happy to hear it Nat. It’s now at target so you can get it there 😀 I was ordering from Pixi until it recently launched at target so yay for instant gratification!

  • Tracey

the whole “avoid eye area” is for REAL lol I went under my eyes and on my eyelids then followed up with my NeoStrata eye serum and let’s just say when I woke up I could barely SEE my eyes were so swollen…then that went away and left behind a lovely scaly mess that took weeks to heal, I looked like I’d been in a fight lol It’s nice for the rest of the face but reallllly avoid your eyes 😉

  • Sabah

I used for a week but I have very bad reaction to this product. Dryness, ichy face. Swallow face and eyes. I do not know what I should do to take rath from all these symptoms please help

    • Isabella Muse

you should contact your dermatologist immediately. Also, ask Pixi directly, they might be able to help with the ingredient that might be causing the problem but I suggest a doctor immediately.
