L’Oreal Extraordinaire Lip Color Review

I purchased this item.

L'Oreal Extraordinaire Lip Color

L’Oreal Extraordinaire by Colour Riche Lip Color ($9.99) is a new hybrid liquid lipstick slash gloss that’s available in drugstores now. The L’Oreal Extraordinaire Lip Color Collection will be available in 16 permanent shades.

Take a look!

I feel like L’Oreal Extraordinaire Lip Color is kinda beefier version of LOreal Color Caresse Shine Stain. The texture is less watery, much thicker, and more pigmented minus that staining effect. These have a richer color and a much better shine as well as a nice moisturizing feel through the wear. It’s kinda like they simply took the Caresse formula and improved upon it dramatically.

The consistency of the product reminds me most of Maybelline Color Elixir but has a slicker feel and less of a grip than that formula. I would not compare them to Almay Liquid Lip Balm at all.

This has the formula of a thinner liquid lipstick but the moisturizing feel of a gloss as well as the high shine finish of one. Colors are fairly opaque and have a very friendly MLBB (my lips but better) finish if you’re going with some of the lighter color with a more dramatic punch in the darker shades. The packaging is L’Oreal standard Color Riche gold mirrored tube with a small window so you can see the color inside but it attracts fingerprints like a magnet.

Wear time varied for me as I got about three hours out of the darker shades but a mere two from the lighter colors that seemed to wear away quickly. Through the wear my lips felt pleasantly plumped and hydrated. Apparently they contain some sort of micro oil to give lips that plushy moist feel. I actually prefer Maybelline Color Elixir because I got a longer wear from them but all in all these aren’t lacking in the least. But fact is the formulas are nearly identical to each other!

I’m actually enjoying the new waves of liquid lip colors at the drugstore. I don’t personally love liquid lipstick but the hybrid formula I truly embrace as typically they are thinner and less velvety than a true liquid lipstick and you have the element of a glossy finish. Plus I have issues with liquid lipstick migrating and feathering where as this hybrid formulation does not.

Overall, L’Oreal Extraordinaire Lip Color perfects the hybrid lipstick slash gloss formula and makes for a comfortable color wearing experience with plenty of moisture. Two deal breakers might be the perfume-y fruity taste and flavor and the shorter wear. But aside from this they are an very nice product however, by no means a must buy if you already own several shades of Color Elixir.

I’m looking forward to trying these. Would you recommend these for a newbie to lip products?

These are really pretty! I like the packaging too. It reminds me of YSL glossy stains. I just wish the wear time was better. All of these matte lippies have been spoiling me lately lol

YES! I’ve been waiting for your take on these. I (shamefully) bought most of the Maybelline Color Elixir’s because I’ve always wanted a lip product with this type of hybrid formula. I love the Elixir’s and the delicious pillowy effect they have on my lips but man do they taste and smell bad.

The Extraordinaire’s are exactly what you say to a T. Similar formula to the Elixir’s but not as long lasting. Still very pleasant, though. They also smell and taste better than the Elixir’s but I guess that is just a matter of preference.

Basically…I agree with everything you say! Haha.

Thank you for writing such a great beauty blog. I really enjoy visiting your site daily although it’s been terrible for my wallet but that’s my own sweet fault! HAHA.

aw elena thank you for the wonderful wonderful comment 😀 haha sorry about your wallet being lighter though……….!!!!!!!!!! I think both taste bad though, I’m not super keen on the taste of L’Oreal’s either yak! why can’t they just do mint or something?!

Was waiting for your take. I saw it at CVS and I was like, man, didn’t read anything by the Muse – so didn’t buy it. I love the colours, was sold on the Molto Mauve, but what a shame that they aren’t long wearing 🙁

    • Isabella Muse

VERY flattered apurva 🙂 mmm I only get about three hours 🙁 if you want longer try the Color Elixirs, those are a nice four for me!

I found them to be a bit sloppy and tacky and YES, you sited by deal breaker. I found the perfume taste to be unbearable. Back to CVS it went…
