Maybelline Stormy Sahara Color Sensational Lipstick Review & Swatches

Maybelline Stormy Sahara Color Sensational Lipstick

Maybelline Stormy Sahara Color Sensational Lipstick is one of several new shades of lipstick that Maybelline releases for Spring 2014 entitled the Buffs.

The Maybelline the Buffs Color Sensational Lipstick Collection will be a permanent line of colors added to the Color Sensational product line this season. These colors are inspired by flesh tones and were created to flatter a variety of skin tones.

Take a look!

Maybelline Stormy Sahara Color Sensational Lipstick isn’t a shade I’d typically reach for. It’s a color that “The Buffs” really brings to mind as it is truly a nude lipstick. It does have elements of rose but for the most part it is a darker beige that worries me because I fear zombie lips with it.

Perhaps there is a hint of apricot here but the lighter tan beige of the shade dominates for the most part. The color isn’t nearly as smooth and creamy as Maple Kiss which I recently reviewed. It does have a tendency to accentuate every single little natural line in my lips so imagine how it’ll look on drier or aging lips, not pretty to say the least. The color doesn’t migrate nor did it feather for me but I didn’t love how it looked uneven and patchy. I applied a touch of clear gloss and patted my pinky across my lips for a smoother more refined finish as on its own it looks very dry and yes, zombie lip-like!

Stormy Sahara is a lovely shade of color and it was workable for me but the drier consistency and the formula isn’t very forgiving so it does need a helping hand from a little gloss to look its very best.

If you fear living dead lips this is probably a shade you’ll want to skip out. Those brave enough to try I suggest clear gloss to aid you in the challenge!

With the gloss and the blush I think it actually looks really fresh and pretty on you, Muse! It’s very definitely a ‘nude’ though.

Shame the formula didn’t really work on its own, though.

With all due respect to your review…I love this color on you. In fact, I actually prefer it to Maple Kiss. Sorry to disagree. Gorgeous. Looks soft and natural.
I’m currently obsessed with nude lips…but never wore them until recently because most had the zombie effect, on me, that you mention. I’m slowly testing and learning and am very eager to read your reviews on these. $5.49! At Target online.
    Still, lovely on you.

This lipstick shade is gorgeous! It reminds me of Maybelline’s Totally Toffee, definitely give it a go- it is a beautiful nude shade which isn’t as dry! 🙂

HA ha ha, I know you hate the natural colors but I think it looks very nice on you. It’s just not a color you are used to seeing. It looks natural and pretty, not zombie-like to me at all! Thanks for the review!

I bought one of the shades last night but it was definitely the wrong one, oh well! I actually really liked the formula, but I’ve also had nothing but trouble with drugstore brand nudes so I’ll just keep trying to find one that works.
