Maybelline Untainted Spice Color Sensational Lipstick Review & Swatches

Maybelline Color Sensational The Buffs Lipstick

Maybelline Untainted Spice Color Sensational Lipstick is one of several brand new shades available in the Maybelline the Buffs Lipstick Collection for Spring 2014.

These new shades are a selection of nudes and natural colors that are meant to flatter an array of skin tones. I’ve been testing quite a few of the colors out this month and so far so good.

Let’s take a look at Untainted Spice.

Maybelline Untainted Spice Color Sensational Lipstick

Maybelline Untainted Spice Color Sensational Lipstick is a really rich raisin…so honestly, perhaps not really a nude shade right? But I can understand what they are trying to do with this shade as although it will be flattering on a range of skin tones I do believe it was created to flatter and match up with a deeper skin those fitting in with their “flesh colored lipstick” marketing.

It’s a beautiful shade and has excellent color coverage on a single application. Most Color Sensational Lipsticks aren’t lacking for pigment that’s for sure. It had a very nice creamy texture with a satin finish that was a little dry looking so I applied clear gloss on top for a better finish.

I’m noticing that the Maybelline the Buffs Collection seems to have a bit of a mix of stronger fragrance and flavored lipsticks. As I tried Maple Kiss and barely tasted or smelled anything yet Untainted Spice was a shade that had a rather strong scent and flavor. Mind you not an unpleasant one but if you’re sensitive this could be irritating.

Color lasted about five hours on me but it did have a knack for migrating a little bit during that wear so my upper lip line was decorated with color if I wasn’t careful about touching up.

This is an excellent shade for complimenting natural looks.

Hey! This looks really good on you. I purchased a few of the lipsticks from this collection and liked this one the most. Thanks for the great post 🙂

I bought this one! And Maple Kiss based on your swatches! Def uber pigmented! I find this one looks wayyy awesome on you but a bit dark on me for my tastes.. Which is weird as I’m a medium skintone?! I was totes hoping it would come out a little Queen Alice on me. Love that lippie.. I’ll try it with different glosses as I really like what it did on you. I also found Maple Kiss a wee bit brassy on me. I can never figure out if I’m warm or cool undertone..

It’s dark on me too melody, kinda like melted milk chocolate! 😀 def try gloss, it sheers it out nicely…! me either don’t feel bad, maybe you’re neutral 😀

Hmm.. I submitted a post here and it didn’t take? Take 2 I guess, anyhoo! I bought this one and Maple kiss based off your swatches! I was hoping this one would come out sorta Queen Alice for me (love that MLBB lippie!) but it looks applies much darker for me :/ Tho I love the way it looks on you here! Maple kiss comes out a wee bit brassy on me.. I can never figure out if I’m warm or cool toned. However there’s no noticeable scent difference between my two.. Maybe you got an ugly duckling of the batch?

oh it went through it just went into my pending folder as my comments are on approval 😀 it could be!!!!!!! lol ;-D It’s weird because one was the same old scent/flavor and the other a touch more subtly to the scent.

Good to know thanks! Usually they post immediately so I thought it was on my end 😛

you’ll see it immediately but after that it pops into my pending folder until I approve!

This is definitely not a nude shade for those of us on the lighter end of the spectrum, but it would be great for darker skin tones. 🙂 My roommate has two-toned lips, the bottom of which is very brown while the top is a dark-brown pink, so these raisen shades make perfect nudes on her.

now that’s interesting ;-D she can do some sort of ombre with that hehe!

I don’t think I’m familiar with maybelline’s lipstick fragrance. Could you describe it? I know I find l’oreal’s fragrance/flavor to be unpleasant, so I’m hoping maybelline’s is better!

I have very fair skin and dark hair and although it isn’t technically a nude lipstick(or it wouldn’t be for me lol) I really love the color! Might get this for myself!

I like it on you Musey! But in all fairness this 100% qualifies as a nude shade for dark skin tones. Not everyone is porcelain!

funny thing, i saw your review after i had already bought this. I was looking at espresso but then put it back because i felt it would be too dark. and then another taupe looked eh. So i grabbed untainted spice. as soon as i got home and swatched it, i was like oh no this is too brown– going back. But then remembered your post. So I test it lightly on, and then added a sheer gloss-buxom leslie. much better!
