Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Spotless Foundation Review & Swatches

Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Spotless Foundation1

Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Spotless Foundation is a new liquid foundation with an SPF 15 that is available in three shade selections and available at drugstores now for Spring 2014 (and permanently).

This new foundation serum is a skin perfecting formula that contains a powerful brightening ingredient to improve the appearance of dark, age, and sun spots over time.

The water based formula is a take on the recently launched L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder and older products like Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra Light Skin Perfecting Makeup, Shiseido Perfect Refining Foundation, and Estee Lauder Invisible Fluid Makeup.

Let’s take a look!

Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Spotless Foundation

Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Spotless Foundation ($14.99) is something that intrigued me since I generally love the feel and second skin finish of water based foundations. The idea it could treat dark spots and brighten was also a key selling point for me. As of now I’ve been using in two weeks but have yet to notice any difference on the smaller dark spots I have on my lower jawline nor have I noticed the brightening ability but with continued use I surely hope that I might see some change. According to Physicians Formula the Spotless Technology is clinical prove to erase the look of 20 years of natural skin darkening.

This comes in a glass bottle that’s 1.0 oz in size and has a small dropper as well as a slanted foundation brush for application. Typically I rant about the brushes included with PF product but this brush is nicely made with fairly soft bristles which are shed-free. They suggest dropping a few drops of the foundation onto the brush and buffing into skin but the brush actually sucks up the foundation which results in very, very, very sheer coverage. Granted, coverage is sheerer already anyway but the foundation brush does no favors unfortunately so I suggest using the dropper to drop three to four drops onto your arm and you can either pat some of the foundation onto your skin and blend out or you can swipe the included brush into the product and apply. By building you can get fairly good coverage but this won’t conceal major acne, acne scarring, etc….I’d suggest it for a more simple finish. Another suggestion, be sure to shake well prior to apply as the product does separate a good deal.

The consistency is creamy yet runny. I personally didn’t like it as it starts out hydrating but has the feel of silicone to it which made me feel a bit itchy at first application. I didn’t break out (rarely do I) but I didn’t love the way it felt going on. It thankfully doesn’t cling to drier areas and does in fact have a second skin finish. It does have a semi-matte finish so my skin looks a bit dehydrated once I applied and allowed it to set. I wouldn’t compare the formula to any of the products I listed above as it doesn’t have the creamiest I associate with Chanel, Estee Lauder, and Shiseido. This has more of a slippery feel kinda like a silicone primer that’s been watered down.

Light and Medium Swatched Above (There’s also a Medium Beige shade available)

The wear time is very iffy for me as my skin swallows it down within two hours so I appear to be wearing no makeup at all in a very quick time frame. It could by my drier skin but it fades very, very fast on me and does have a slight oxidizing issue as the Light shade goes very orange-y and beige once applied! If you have very fair skin you’ll likely fail to find a match here.

I love the idea and theory behind Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Spotless Foundation and heck I even like the overall texture of it. It’s just once I have it on that I’m not thrilled with the way it makes my skin look nor do I love the very short wear time. I suppose if you liked LOreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder on some level you might enjoy this formula. Unfortunately, I didn’t not love L’Oreal version and although Youthful Wear Spotless Foundation promises a good deal of what I’d love my foundation to do for me I think it needs work to actually gain more of my attention. There’s a lot of potential here but a good deal of quirks as well!

Tried it?

Do share!

It’s available now at drugstores!

I purchased this item.

Gosh, I would buy that in a blink just for that gorgeous, girly packaging! Is that wrong? 🙂

A few people were comparing this to the newer GA foundation with the dropper (second skin foundation?). I haven’t tried either yet.

I knew that would pop up! 🙂 I didn’t feel like it was the same….! The texture is a bit odd, kinda feels a little silicone-like and it clings to skin weirdly..I dunno. I just didn’t love it but you never know others might adore it 😀

I read on another blog that this is actually silicone based, and when I read the label, there’s no water in it at all. Just a bunch of dimethicones.

I am currently using this. And I love the way it makes my face look! Flawless! I don’t have many dark spots, however I feel like my skin looks smoother and a much more even tone. I am fair skinned and it does look orangey when I apply it to my face,(light) but once blended it lightens up to my shade. And surprisingly it lasts me all day! Where with other foundations I’ve used (Almay TLC, Nutrigena, Fit Me) I was constantly reapplying.
Smells funny yes, feels a bit funny, yes. Only reason I might stop using it is even though my skin looks better w/ and w/o the foundation My skin FEELS a bit rougher. At first I thought it was my fingers, but it definitely not. It looks smooth but feels like there is raised rough skin which I’ve never experienced. Maybe a bit of allergic reaction. And makes me sad because again makes my skin look AHMAZING. Still gonna use it and find a solution to my one problem w this product! And the packaging is the real reason why I bought it in the 1st place! 😛

I am an n30 in MAC and I use the light shade. They only use LIGHT, MEDIUM, or DARK in this particular foundation.
