Best Kept Gel Eyeliner Secret

jordana espresso last made to last eyeliner

One of the most popular questions I get around here is what eyeliner is the longest wearing on the waterline. There are two great eyeliners I love for my waterline that wear long and strong and that would be Urban Decay Perversion and Mally Beauty Evercolor Automatic Waterproof Line.

However, you might already one of the best kept gel eyeliner secrets around for extra long strong wear….

If you don’t jump ahead for it!

Best Kept Gel Eyeliner Secret? Well, buy yourself a cheap as chips eyeliner in a shade of your choice to MATCH the shade of a pot gel eyeliner you already own. I use Jordana Made to Last Liquid Eyeliner because it’s cheap and I don’t mind ruining it slightly with this trick I’m about to tell you about.

Now along with your cheapie eyeliner pencil grab your fav gel pot eyeliner…Bobbi Brown, MAC, whatever you fancy! Just make sure the pencil eyeliner and the gel eyeliner are the same shade. Simply dip your eyeliner pencil into the gel eyeliner gently and rub it slowly back and fourth!

Gel Eyeliner Trick

Now apply it on your waterline!

Not only do you get super dramatic eyeliner results but it’ll wear for a solid six to eight hours (or at least on my drier eyes it does)! I wouldn’t recommend using a good eyeliner pencil for this job because you’ll be ruining the pencil slightly using this application method so do grab something cheap to do the deed with! Jordana eyeliners are under $3 and can be found at Walgreens in an array of shades!

Awesome eyeliner trickery from your friendly Muse.

Do you already use this method?

Do share!

My eyes hate liner on my waterline & I really love the look you can achive with it 🙁

  • Ruth

shut the front door! what a great tip, will have to try it out! I try to put liner on my waterline and the smears around giving me that oh so attractive raccoon look that all the girls and guys are sporting around =)

    • Isabella Muse

lol unfortunately I got too old for that raccoon look hehe ;-D PS did you see those new pink DC kicks on Journeys? Ordered that sh9t like a boss! 😀

      • Ruth

lol! was it the light pink ones? they’re cute but I’m complete rubbish at keeping my shoes clean and would somehow spill coffee on them. when you get them, need pics to drool over. did you see the chucks cosmic ones? those b!tches need to get in my collection now!

        • Isabella Muse

YES! I was going to get the mint too but I knew I had nothing that went with them! 😀 I WAS DEBATING on the cosmic ones, they so reminded me of Who! 😀 I was going to get them too but said meh, let me wait and see what else pops for Spring. the DC ones though I could not resist those need in my stash NOW! but of course, sneaker pr0n coming soon ;D only prob is dc always makes me feel like a wanna be cheerleader, so not as hard as a good pair of chucks..I mean you can wear a pink pair of chucks and still rock it but wear a pink pair of DC and suddenly you feel like Cheerleader Barbie, all I need is a tennis skirt *insert rolling eyes here* how am I to keep my I rock with the big boys personality with pink skate shoes?! ;-D oh woe is me!

          • Ruth

I got the mint pair last summer and love them! that’s the same reason that I want the cosmic ones- they look like they travel through time and space. I’d secretly feel like the Doctor’s companion every time they were worn! lol @ cheerleader! sometimes I just can’t bring myself to wear certain things because of the association involved. I can’t wear plaid anymore, I rocked that shiz all through the 90’s and “Smells like teen spirit” plays on my inner radio every time I see it.

          • Isabella Muse

LOL amen sis amen ;-D I might just need ’em! LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL…it was just that error, plaid defined grunge ;-D I had a plaid hoodie that got me through every single dress down Friday at my school hehe!

Keep meaning to try this! I also make a point to do a quick swipe on my waterline with a Q tip so there’s a clean, dry surface for the eyeliner to cling to. Seems to help with wear, definitely helps the liner go on smoothly.

  • Michelle

Muse, thanks for the great advise – I MUST try this now! My waterline constantly fades around the two hour mark (ugh!) … so 6-8 hours is great!

    • Isabella Muse

let me know how it works out for you! 😀 I’d love to hear how long it lasted!

  • Robyn

I literally did this the other day. I thought it was crazy, but I needed to but liner in my waterline and the liner I was using was crap. I just tabbed it into my gel liner and poof. Perfecto. Man was it annoying trying to remove it later that night though. It refused to budge.

  • diane

happy february my friend! i love this idea- i am totally going to try it! =)

    • Isabella Muse

and to you! Happy belated bday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let me know how you do with it 😀

  • amy

I’ve tried *everything* on my waterline, and nothing worked. UD Perversion just migrated everywhere. UD Zero, it just vanished… Stila & tarte burned. Kat von D Autograph Pencils, Milani Liquif’Eye, you name it, I tried it! HE to DS, pencil, gel… You get the picture.

On a whim at Walgreen’s one day this past Summer, I came upon Essence Long-Wearing Eyeliner, and it was a serious game-changer. This stuff lasts, and even at full-price, it is around $3 USD. I live in SoCal, and do alot of walking, and this seriously did not budge-even in 90+F heat & humidity. Short of using the Old-School red Maybelline pencils, and burning the tip (how dumb were we in the 80s…?), this pencil is the best thing that happened to eyeliner.

    • Isabella Muse

AWESOME! Essence has some sleeper hits that’s for sure 😀 LOL you sound like my sister, she totally did that!

  • Sarah

Love this little tip. But I’ll say this much, that new Jordana gel liner has pretty amazing waterline staying power on its own. I wore it yesterday in the charcoal color and noticed around 10+ hours later (when I pulled a mirror close to my face for plucking activities) that it was still on!! Faint, but definitely noticeable…this might have been my first time trying it on my waterline, but I was impressed!!

  • Maggie

Muse: Would this be a good idea for tight-lining too? What do you find is the best method for tight-lining?

  • Lauren

The Loreal Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner is so great for applying gel liner to the water line.

  • Maia

This was brilliant! I did a trial for a day and it stayed for almost 7-8 hours.I usually use the L’oreal pencil but in a couple of hours it gets smudgy and somehow washes to the outer corners of my eyes. but this little trick totally works! and right in time for my brother’s wedding, with all the parties coming up 😀
