Butter London Boho Rock Lippy Tinted Balm Review & Swatches

Butter London Boho Rock Lippy Tinted Balm33

The Butter London Boho Rock Collection for Spring 2014 features three new shades of Butter London Lippy Tinted Balm. You may recall earlier this year the Butter London Makeup Collection had launched and honestly so soon after the launch I didn’t expect to see new shades popping up for Spring but was ever so delighted that they did in fact launch new products.

Recently, I reviewed Butter London Wink Cream Eyeshadow which also happens to have new shades available in this new Boho Rock Collection!

My first try out with the Butter London Lippy Tinted Balm was a rave so I was excited to dig into new shades especially since the new colors seemed to be quite natural shades perfect for lighter Spring looks!

Take a peek!

Mush and Teddy Boy are the two shades I grabbed up from this collection but there is a third I’ve been considering grabbing after I purchased these. These are sheerer shades with a very natural, nude, almost MLBB (my lips but better) finish.

The Butter London Lippy Tinted Balm is a hybrid balm slash lipstick formula that’s already available in six shades. The formula has a lighter balm texture generally with a semi-matte finish however, with Mush and Teddy Boy I experience more of a cream slash semi-matte finish that was slightly drier than the normal range. The shades lack shimmer and sparkle and also fail to provide any real moisture so they do kinda emphasize drier lips and will feel drying on. Color lasts for about four hours with a faint vanilla flavor and fragrance that’s very subtle.

Originally I experienced a nice sheen finish on the shade I tried in Strawberry Field when I reviewed this product sometime ago however, I find these Boho Rock shades lack sheen any aren’t as moisturizing or balmy. Fact is, they are pretty darn dry!

I will however, say the colors are very pretty so if you don’t mind the dryness and maybe apply a bit of clear gloss on top they prove very wearable! I wore Mush with a gloss in my image below and Teddy Boy without.

Although at $20 each you probably shouldn’t have to “work with them”. They should be good out of the box…a little cheaper and you might feel a bit better about the beautiful colors and a bit less worried about the drier texture.

I admit, I liked them regardless….! But yeah, a bit more moisture wouldn’t go unnoticed.

Grab them now at Ulta and Ulta.com.

I purchased this item.

Hey there! I bought two shades from the original collection when the collection first launched, but I only ended up reviewing one of them b/c I returned the other one immediately. I returned it because it was dry and sheer, which is a weird combo. The shade I kept is a deep plum shade, so it can be blended out w/ a lip balm and works out. I was looking forward to trying these new shades, but now I may not b/c I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. Strawberry Fields is a darker shade, like the Black Cherry one I kept, but I returned the Rose one, which was lighter and more apparently dry.

I LOVED strawberry fields Meesha but dunno what happened here, I got a bit of dryness with ’em! clear gloss helps…! but it was strange.

Muse–can you think of a dupe for Mush? I’m looking for an MLBB shade similar to that but I can’t wear the lippy tinted balm–it stings like crazy on me. Ditto with the Too Faced La Creme Lipsticks, Revlon Lipsticks…just to name a few.

Oh well that’s pretty crummy! 🙁 I guess I will pass on these, I can’t stand dry lippies!

Both colors are great but I have to agree with you, you shouldn’t have to work with them to provide moisture. I mean they tout themselves as a balm already. Do you ever get sick of companies just saying “anything” whether it’s factual or not? LOL I guess I’m either getting “old” or smarter – let’s go with the latter shall we? LMAO

LOL I KNOW i know! “It can chew gum and walk at the same time” buy it, it does neither 🙂

Love the color of Mush but that is a lot of money for a crummy formula. Now the search begins to find something with similar color but better formula!

Hi Isabella – Thank you for this wonderful review of our LIPPY Tinted Balm! I wanted to address your comment about the LIPPY formula and the dryness you were experiencing: Our LIPPY Tinted Balm formula is the same as the Tinted Balms we launched in August 2013. One reason you might be experiencing this dry feeling on your lips might be due to weather. If you are living in a cold environment, it does take a couple of “swipes” to get the Tinted Balm to warm up and really give you the full effect.
We hope you continue to enjoy our LIPPY Tinted Balms and other products and continue to blog about us! We love seeing reviews from our Bezzie Mates!

    Cheers!
