Marc Jacobs Magic Marc'er Precision Pen eyeliner

Only the really super duper hardcore liquid liners need apply here dears! Marc Jacobs Magic Marc’er Precision Pen Liquid Eyeliner is just for the experts out there because this isn’t a liquid liner you wanna be learning on at this price. Of course, it’s very weird I ended up with it because I’m no professional!

I told my best friend on Saturday night before we went out that this was the last time he’d ever do my liquid eyeliner for me. I’m bound and determined that in 2014 I WILL DO THAT FLICK if it kills me.

Maybe this will be the liner to aid me in my quest to get the perfect cat eye!

Needless to say you can flash forward to this Saturday night and I’ll be likely sitting on the counter in his bathroom again as he does my cat eye for me. Thank you god for gifting me with the bestest best friend ever.

I can apply liquid liner it’s just that flick that I haven’t mastered very well.

Needless to say I didn’t need $30 eyeliner but Jai had this, swore by it, and wanted me to try it so I purchased it. And indeed, it is an impressive liquid liner. Precise point, easy glide, skip-free, no tugging, perfect, smooth finish with a beautiful glossiness, and a great long wear without fading, smudging, or flaking away. I fell asleep in it, head buried in my pillow, and looked as fresh as a daisy when I woke up.

I want a best friend who’s a makeup artist 🙂 My cat eye flicks are hit and miss but I found that Milani’s Eye Tech Extreme has been a great help in achieving the perfect cat eye. Although, I want to try Eye Tech Perfection and see if that works even better.

    • Isabella Muse

oh he’s not 🙂 just does makeup much better than I do ;-D I agree, it’s perfect for steady application! 😀 but need work on that flick still!!!!!!!!!! ;-D

I heard that after a while, it dries out quickly, and the tip isn’t as sharp anymore… Is that true? Cause I’m looking THE ultimate liner. Please let me know in a couple of months or week if this does happen. Thank you 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

i’m going strong since December with it Katelyn, will keep you posted!

hey muse! i to have tried to master the flick and one thing that has worked for me is going backwards…do your line at the lashline and then make your line backwards to your outer corner and connect the triangle…i also use the MAC 210 brush and it has been my cat eye lifesaver!

    • Isabella Muse

flick is actually just a word for that tiny triangle 🙂 whenever a cat eye is referenced in beauty typically the wing at the end is called a “flick”

      • Jen

        I know that. 😉
But the word itself even led me, in my early days, to think of it as a swift motion. In reality it’s a few motions to obtain the cat eye ‘flick’.
I was trying to be helpful, not redefine your beauty vocab. 😉

Have you tried the Marc Jacobs gel liner? I tried it in store, and wow, it won’t budge even after I used Sephora’s makeup remover!! Great staying power. So great that I have to consider getting a waterproof makeup remover if I get that gel liner. Have you tried it? Love it? Or dislike it?

  • Fancie

I have the pencil liner but now I’m totally lusting for this lol. I love the cat eye look!

Hi Musey, try Dollywink’s liquid eyeliner. Calligraphy-tipped pen liner totally revolutionized liquid eyeliner for me. I don’t need to worry about the tip wearing out unlike felt applicator, either. I think Jesse’s Girl and Physicians Formula carry similar ones.

As for technique, This is how I do it:

    1. If you tightline, do it first. It’s easier to gauge how thick of a line you want if you tightline first.

    2. Line your upper lashline with your liquid eyeliner. I usually start in the middle of my lashline lining outwards, then go back to the inner corner and lining towards the middle of my lashline, connecting them. Start thin and build up the thickness. I find that “sketching” the line using short strokes is the easiest. I do this on BOTH eyes before proceeding, I find that it gives me a more even result.

    2. Draw a diagonal line on the outer corner of your eye, angling towards the end of your brow. You can draw this line backwards as well, by drawing the line towards your eye instead of towards your brow. (Some people use the angle of their lower lashline as a reference but it doesn’t work with my rounded, hooded lids.)

    3. Starting at the top/outer end of this line, draw another line towards your lashline, angling it away from the first line a little but keeping them fairly close. You’re creating a tall, diagonal-looking triangle, basically.

    4. Fill in this triangle and you should get your flick.

And that’s how I do it. Extra tip: TAKE YOUR TIME. Don’t rush it. Go slow, take a deep breath every now and then. If your hands are on the shakier side, try balancing your elbow on a desk or something. Using a small handheld mirror would help you get close to the mirror. If liquid eyeliner is too finicky for you, practice with a gel or powder eyeliner and an angled brush instead, it’s much more forgiving.

Sorry for the length of the comment, I hope it’s helpful. 🙂

Can we see a pic of you rocking some winged eyeliner? I’m sure you’d look totally fierce!

    • Isabella Muse

I think I have a few up in the archives 😀 and thanks for the vote there lejeun ;-D

  • Karen

This is how I learned. Take an index card and place it at an angle from outer corner of eye to outer eyebrow. Use a black (or whatever color) eyeliner pencil with a very sharp tip to draw the triangle and then fill in with either gel or liquid eyeliner. Once you master that technique, you can try it with just the gel or liquid eyeliner 😀

I just envy those who can do and rock the cat-eye look! I tried it myself and when I was able to do it a bit decently, it was when I realized that the look did not suit me well. It made me look like an evil character. Wasn’t sure if it was with the way I did the flick or it really wasn’t meant for me. I wish you luck on your quest for the perfect cat eye. =) Perhaps ask your best friend how he does it.

    • Isabella Muse

haha well looking like a villain isn’t bad eh? oh he’s done complete step by step tutorials but I just don’t have the hand for it 😀

      • Christine Joy Luikuo

Cool! I wish I also have a friend who does well in makeup. But practice makes perfect, right? So don’t give up, Miss Muse! =)

        • Isabella Muse

it’s convenient when you’re heading out for the night! hehe! hope on the counter, have him do it, and go! ;-D hehe! I never will my dear girl! 🙂 <3!

Hi Christine, I had this issue as well. What I found helped with my eye shape is to do a very thin line over my upper lashline, thickening slightly halfway through the corner, then I only create a very small flick instead of a full-on wing, dragging outwards more than upwards (since I have hooded eyes). Full-on wing makes me look pretty evil as well, but a tiny flick (and little to no eyeliner on my lower lashline) just helps elevate my eyes that little bit, which I appreciate. 🙂
