Maybelline Nude Embrace the Buffs Lipstick Review & Swatches

Maybelline Nude Embrace the Buffs Lipstick1

Maybelline Nude Embrace Color Sensational the Buffs Lipstick is one of four, limited edition shades launched with the Maybelline Dare to Go Nude Spring 2014 Collection.

This one is…interesting!

I was all hopes and dreams that Maybelline Nude Embrace the Buffs Lipstick would be a naked MLBB (my lips but better) shade of pink on my lips but unfortunately I can’t pull this one off. This is a dusky lighter shade of mauve with a pink undertone. The color is very unique but not something I can easily wear unfortunately even with gloss on top.

The formula has a soft consistency with an easy glide on formula and a satin finish. Some of the Buffs Collection has been hit or miss with their dryness levels but this has a nice slickness going on and a fairly nice creamy consistency that doesn’t feel dry however, it does LOOK dry as it emphasizes the tiniest of natural lip lines very easily. I wouldn’t recommend the shade for those with naturally dry lips. It does have a perfume-y flavor and fragrance that all the Color Sensational Lipsticks embrace, some folks feel it borders playdoh!

The color is quite unique but I’m unsure how many people will feel comfortable in Nude Embrace. On the upside it’s very promising that Maybelline went ahead and releases four new limited edition shades so soon after they launched the Buffs Permanent Collection for Spring 2014! It’s been a mere weeks in between the two collections!

If you are loving Nude Embrace best get to hunting it down as it is available for a limited time with this collection exclusively.

Anyone own it?

Been very busy, but MUSE one day I was in WALMART and someone had cut out every single lipstick bullet from the new nude shades!! :O talk about disgusting
!!!! You never know who has touched the drugstore products.

    Yakh!!

    • Isabella Muse

GROSS 🙁 why do people do that?! 🙁 Nice to hear from you chica, don’t be too busy to visit me 🙂

Eli and I went on vacation to United Arab Emirates and Oman over winter break…my brain never fully returned!! ;p But I will be commenting more. I have been trying to buy less makeup so I try and stay away from tantalizing websites!!!

I was so shocked because I actually wanted to purchase a lippie haha :'(

          • LINDARRAGNAR

Every post is new temptation, 🙂

it was AMAZING!! Honestly I want to go back this december. Dubai and UAE is very modern and very westernized, while Oman is very natural and beautiful! They were wonderful to view together! 🙂

What does it mean to ‘cut out lipstick bullets’? I’m not familiar with that term.

It looks like this shade would suit fair complexions? I’m going to try it!

      • Isabella Muse

swivel it up, snap off the lipstick Susannah. Good luck! Hope it works for you 🙂

        • Susannah

good grief — disgusting. Glad I didn’t know what that term meant! Thankfully I had a mother who taught me the difference between right and wrong.

  • Robin

Very pretty! It looks kinda like Cliniques Bamboo Pink minus the frost. I’m very fair with cook undertones so I will be on the hunt for this! Thanks!!

  • amy

I absolutely *need* this one! I have very neutral, beige skin, and this is the type of shade that is a MLBB for me. When I think of what my ideal pinky-nude would be, *this* is what I imagine! Hopefully, the masses will see it the same as you, and there will be plenty of this shade available!

    • Isabella Muse

you are SO lucky you can wear shades like this! I couldn’t do it, I look deadly!

      • amy

I can’t wear bronze or peach shades, so it’s a trade-off! L’Oréal actually had a similar shade years ago, Tendre Mauve (and later Harmony), as did The Body Shoppe. Tendre Mauve is one of the few shades I’ve *ever* gone through, and I even nearly finished a third tube, before it was sadly DC’d…

        • Isabella Muse

you know something I think I have Tendre Mauve somewhere haha…! old school!

  • Audrey

I bought this and I tried to like it, I really did. It looks really purple on my lips and I just look cold and sickly. Aren’t truely nude shades pink? What they were thinking putting that mauve in it?

    • Isabella Muse

it probably works for certain skin tones audrey but we aren’t one of those tones unfortunately as I experienced the same, I looked very sickly! yak!

  • kellly

Wow, that color loooks pretty. It’s oneI would try, hopefully it will be ok with my coloring. I like that tawny edge to it. If they ever show up in my area, I’m going to try one!

  • Deb

Hi Muse! I am usually very wary of picking something up on a whim but I did with this one. I had not tried it yet and then I saw this post and thought uh, oh. When you only show an arm swatch, and not a face shot, that makes me nervous. Happy to report, this is a winner. For me. The mauve in this is actually excellent for certain types of coloring. I am very fair, red hair, and mostly neutral with some very slight pink undertones. And my lips have almost no pigment. In the world of nudes, mauve is actually very good for people like me. The brown undertones in most nudes are too strong for me and make me look sickly. So for those of you with coloring similar to mine, I think you will find this a very good MLBB shade.

    • Isabella Muse

lol deb yeah that means it looks really really bad when I’m not doing a face shot haha ;-D YAY! I think it’ll work great on certain tones just not my own unfortunately 🙁 yayyyyyyyyy! 🙂 I wish it worked on me but it was a bit too scary! I’m just glad it worked for you!

  • Veronica

Oh wow, I hope I can find this! Cool, beige-pink nudes are the only nudes I can wear. 🙂 Shame it’s an LE shade, as I felt the Buffs line could have used more cool toned shades.

  • Keri

I hae such a hard time finding nudes. I picked this up cuz it looked different from most I tried. And I’m glad I did. It is a MLBB shade on me. I am fair, with yellowish undertones with dark hair. It just works. I wish this wasn’t limited 🙁

  • Luce

I bought this one the other day. I completely agree with you! It looks much better by itself and even swatched on hand than on my lips. Definitely can’t wear it alone. I have relative pigmented lips, so these make me look very washed out and gray.

    • Isabella Muse

it looks so beautiful swatched but damn on my lips, ugh I look awful 🙁

      • Susannah

I saw this yesterday at CVS and thought it would work for me, based on people’s comments. I am very fair, with pink undertones in my skin.

I look like a Zombie from the land of the dead wearing this lipstick! However, I recently purchased a Lauder lipstick that is too bright, and I found that when I put on the Maybelline zombie lipstick first (as a base) and then apply the brighter Lauder shade, it works. The zombie color tones down the too bright color perfectly, so it’s all good.

        • Isabella Muse

lol ditto..it swatches so nice but on my lips oh god so scary! maybe I’ll try cocktailing :-D! Anyone who can wear this I’m jealous of! because I look so scary with it on!

  • Kia

I’m a deeper skin tone (NW45 at MAC) and I LOVE this shade! It’s hard to find pale nudes that work for me but with a deeper mauve lip color, this lippie to just to die for! I love it. I totally plan to go back for a back-up.

  • Lauren

Hi Muse! So glad you posted this!! I bought this shade along with another one and sadly I can’t pull it off either. I was really bummed because it looks so pretty in the tube. I’ve noticed with the buffs line that I cannot find the perfect shade. I don’t know if it’s just me or not. They are either too light or on the darker side. I haven’t found something in between yet, but I have three more shades left to go!

  • Maria Fernanda Moreno
